10 years on since EA launched the first Tiger Woods game, ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09’ scores a hole-in-one, becoming the first Tiger Woods game to debut at the top of the All Formats Chart.
The popular golf game also tees off with the biggest launch week for a Tiger Woods game, launching across 5 different formats (33% of sales on XB360, 32% PS3 and 28% on Wii with the remainder on PS2 and PSP). It is EA’s 5th All Formats No1 week so far this year and their first since ‘Army of Two’ back in week 10. ‘Mario Kart Wii’ and ‘Wii Fit’ both drop one place to No’s 2 and 3 respectively, but Nintendo still have 3 games in the All Formats Top 5 as ‘Wii Play’ holds on to No5. Take 2 enjoy a sterling 2nd week of sales for the DS version of ‘Carnival: Funfair Games’, helping the party game reach its highest ever chart position – up from No6 to No4. The DS has a wealth of stuff for back to school week, Spore & Civ are great serious games and Dinosaur King is fantastic for the preteen boys.

Still expect the battle of the Tigers at the top of this weeks chart. The percentages will tell us whether graphics or swing are more important to the VG golfers at the moment.

If Wii owners didn't have anything else to buy, I'm sure Tiger's sales would be much higher. The competition is just too great when the Wii has the four best selling games and six of the top nine. Plus, the Wii version will have better legs like always.

I expected Wii sales to be highest because 08 sold the most on Wii and I imagine its had the biggest userbase expansion. Instead its a copy of last year with the 360 outselling the Wii first week. I'll be very surprised if the Wii version isn't on top next week.

So, currently HD pre-orders + HD casual dayones overcome the Wii casual dayones+ Wii Preorders. The percentages are close like I thought, and it seems that the PS2 is officially over in dayone/preorder people's eyes.

I was thinking X360 would beat Wii, but not PS3 - that surprised me. Also that the 10+11+12 positions are enough to outsell the number one position is quite unusual - summer charts can be odd.

The Wii will overtake next week I think, but there are lots of other contenders for the top spot. Can we have the Tiger percentages next week please Chart Track too?

Looks like Tiger Woods PS3 took a good share of 360 sales. Last year 360 version debuted at #5 and Wii at #9. PS3 version was delayed 3 weeks, and debuted at #11 (behind Wii one at #10 for that week). Yet this year PS3 is 32% to 360 33%, would have been quite funny to see it on top.

Are there rather up-to-date hardware market shares?

For what it's worth: The only version of Tiger Woods 08 to hit over 100k in the UK was the Wii version. And it did over 200k, as well. :lol

So, basically it probably killed all the other versions combined.

What exactly makes you come to this conclusion ? MGS4 released 2 weeks before Bad Company, and last week MGS4 charted higher than BC this week.

There's no need for an excuse as there's nothing to excuse. Relatively, this is a great opening for the Wii version, compared to to how it performed last year, relative to other systems (from memory). Now this says a lot, because the Wii version sold the most by far last year, and this year it seems to be off to an even better start.
