UK :
Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2009’ kicks ‘FIFA 09’ down to No2 as EA’s 2 week reign at the top of the All Formats chart ends with a 54% dip in ‘FIFA 09’ sales.

The PS3 version of ‘PES 2009’ makes the most of the two week wait for the PS2 version, claiming 58% of sales, while Xbox 360 accounts for 40% and PC 2%. Last year the PS2 version was the top seller with 42%, then 30% for Xbox 360, 26% for PS3 and 2% for PC. Konami can’t match FIFA’s exceptional launch week with sales across all three formats not able to overturn FIFA 09’s Xbox 360 debut week. Last year the Xbox 360 launch weeks were neck and neck, but this time around Xbox 360 FIFA’s launch has sold 2.66 times more than that of PES. The launch of PES on Xbox 360 is lower than last year’s game, however the PS3 version’s launch week is up 39%. THQ can celebrate a successful Xbox 360 launch of ‘Saints Row 2’ which sits comfortably behind ‘FIFA 09’ at No3 with 73% of sales on Xbox 360 and 27% on PS3.

The Xbox 360 version of ‘Saints Row 2’ is only 5,000 units behind PES 2009 at No2 in the Xbox 360 Full Price Chart. ‘Lego Batman’ makes way for ‘PES 2009’ and ‘Saints Row 2’ by dropping 2 places to No4, while ‘Wii Fit’ also falls 2 places to No5. ‘Mario Kart Wii’, a non-mover at No6, joins ‘Wii Fit’ as the only All Formats Top 10 games to increase in sales, while ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’ and ‘Brothers in Arms: Hells’ Highway’ lose 35% and 41% of sales respectively, down to No’s 7 and 10. There is a re-entry for ‘Bioshock’ at No14 thanks to a much later launch of the PS3 version.

Oh wow, PS3 came first in Multiplatform. Is it first time?

Looks like all Sony need to do is pay people to release the PS2 version a bit later and the PS3 will get lots of victories!

Interesting that Wii Fit & Wii Mario Kart went up in sales again, they just don't stop!

Well, it did for Pro Evo, which is interesting considering the 360 versions of Saints Row, FIFA 09, Lego Batman, Brothers in Arms and Star Wars Force Unleashed all bettered the PS3 versions. Have 360 owners got something against Pro Evo all of a sudden?

It seems that some 360 owners have migrated over to FIFA this year, which makes sense considering the reviews for both games.

From the info this week from Chart Track:
Last year the Xbox 360 launch weeks [for PES and FIFA] were neck and neck, but this time around Xbox 360 FIFA’s launch has sold 2.66 times more than that of PES. The launch of PES on Xbox 360 is lower than last year’s game.

From Chart Track when FIFA launched:
It’s the biggest ever launch of a FIFA game with EA’s ‘FIFA 09’ outselling last year’s game by 37.5%.
42% of sales were on Xbox 360, making it the 3rd fastest selling game on Microsoft’s format (behind GTA IV and Halo 3)

So PES was down for first week sales on 360 compared to last year, but FIFA's first week sales were up considerably.

Yeah I could see people don't need to buy another football game, only few hardcore fans would.
Also 10 vs. 10 with online mode will interest to many 360 users, 360 have high number heavy online users.

Many, many, MANY people bought PS2s just for PES. I assume this is the same scenario.

Just wanted to drop this, didn't think it would warrant a new thread:

According to Gamefront (who are citing media control) third quarter (console) software percentages in Germany are as follows:
1. DS: 36.4% (1.4 million pieces of software, third quarter 2007: 1.2m)
2. PS2: 17.4%
3. Wii: 15%
4. PS3: 10.8% (quadrupled in comparison to third quarter 2007, they didn't differentiate between total numbers or percentages though, but I'd guess they mean total numbers)
5. 360: 7%

So PSP below 7%, wonder to what plattforms the rest of the software sales went. GC, XBox, NGage? :lol

Top selling software for the third quarter:
1. WiiFit
2. Mario Kart Wii
3. Super Smash Brothers Brawl
4. Brain Training :lol

SSBB is quite a surprise, SSBM wasn't really that popular around here.

It's the one where only 4 ds games charted.
Wii kids gone to DS confirmed. Fortunately for Wii, it found a big, new, more mature audience at the same time who just so happen to like the exact same games.

Look out for holidays for a return of the DS.

It's quite funny really, because PS3 fans will have places like Germany, Spain, France and Italy as their stronghold. When in actual fact Nintendo are just kicking everyones arse the whole world over.

Enh, nevermind. Guess it's not a good idea to prod an already sore topic.

:lol what??? What i am saying is something significant has happend to the ds. For years on end the ds was getting 10-16 games into the chart every week without fail, but now the ds for the past couple of weeks has only managed to get 4 games to chart. You don't just go from years of 10-16 games charting to only 4 charting for no reason, either the ds hardware or ds software has supply issues which has caused this. So because their are 10 or so less ds games that are charting that means the other consoles have more games charting instead when normally they wouldn't.

Well if you insist, I find it's rather telling that your focus has shifted from using this vague and inconsequential argument for the Wii and moved it to the DS - another piece of Nintendo hardware, and one which has already instilled itself in the realms of solid software sales irrespective of whatever the other consoles and handhelds are doing in a chart which by its nature has a finite number of positions and has never ever been fully representative of the entire market's performance.

I don't really have an interest in continuing this discussion as it has been disasterous for several weeks' worth of PAL Chart threads.

Could be either;

1) DS software sales have gone down due to sudden less demand.
2) Software sales for other consoles have gone up.
3) Shortages.

I have no evidence directly for or against 1.

As for 2, there's been a hell of a lot of new multiplatform games released recently (games that typically so very poorly on DS), and as these games are multiplatform, they take up lots of spots on the charts. From this, it's possible DS software sales have remained stable, and currently, software sales for other systems have increased a lot due recent multiplatform releases - we'll have to see the effect on the charts as these many new SKUs slip off of the charts.

As for 3, I have very little evidence either way. I did notice that 4 of the 6 DS Lite colours in my local Asda were sold out last time I went in (which will have an effect on software sales) - never noticed that before. Nintendo could potentially be stocking up for Christmas, but we cannot rely on my one anecdote.

The explanation could be a combination of the above also. We'll have to see, but I'm a long, long way from making a judgement of DS software sales stability, as we don't get many hard numbers.

My focus hasn't shifted at all, i've always been talking about the wii, people such as Taurus troll on a weekly basis whenever the amount of wii games that chart is high, if he bothered looking at the weighted chart when it comes out he would see the wii still significantly lower then what it was during the summer anyway. The wii for the past few weeks has been signifcantly high because so few ds games have charted and that's due to either ds hardware or ds software supply issues. I am still talking about the wii but to explain it i have to talk about the ds and it's lack of games charting because that is the main reason the wii has so many games charting in the past few weeks.

You have a clear confirmation bias for your theory.

Perhaps DS software is lower this week. But I think that the most important factor is lots of news games, that have taken a lot of spots in the top 40. DS games usually had the lower part of the charts if you look to other weeks. And this week, we have these new or recently released games in the top 40:

3 x Pro evolution
5 x Fifa
2 x Saint Rows
4 x Lego Batman (not counting the DS one)
1 x Bioshock

They take 15 spots, and there are probably more new games taking more spots.

360 got 42% of FIFA launch sales and 40% of PES launch sales. The 360's FIFA launch was 2.66 times bigger than it's PES launch, so FIFA sold 2.53 times more (across all formats) in it's launch week than PES did.

Totally agree, all 3 of your points are possibilities, i've just heard and seen for myself supply issues with the ds.

360 got 42% of FIFA launch sales and 40% of PES launch sales. The 360's FIFA launch was 2.66 times bigger than it's PES launch, so FIFA sold 2.53 times more (across all formats) in it's launch week than PES did.

Werent the 360 and PS3 sales split only by few %?

It seems what happened was that 360 owners went with FIFA, while PS3 owners went for both :lol

however the PS3 version’s launch week is up 39%.

And of course, PS2 version is missing...

Why would a PS2 version late release help the PS3 version significantly?

Are you suggesting:

- Many PS3 owners would buy the PS2 version, but went with the PS3 version because it's out already? That doesn't make sense.
- Many PS2 owners bought a PS3 along with this game because they couldn't wait a bit more? That doesn't make sense.

So why?

Considering the 360-exclusive advertising, i'm shocked.

Shocked!
I've noticed that football fans tend to image conscious and want to be perceived as "cool". PS3 is the one with the brand, so I guess football fan's choice of console is PS3, so I'm not surprised Fifa sold better on PS3 here... I was disinterested in which one would sell more though, so I didn't expect it, nor expect the reverse.

If you look at the week aug 30th you had:

1 x TOO HUMAN
1 x THE SIMS 2: APARTMENT LIFE
3 x TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 09
2 x SOULCALIBUR IV
1 x SPORTS ISLAND
1 x OFF ROAD
1 x SUMMER ATHLETICS

That's 10 spots taken by recently released games, yet the ds still had 11 games that charted.

Then on the 6th of september you had:

1 x SPORE
2 x MERCENARIES 2: WORLD IN FLAMES
3 x TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 09
1 x THE SIMS 2: APARTMENT LIFE
1 x TOO HUMAN
1 x VIVA PIÑATA: TROUBLE IN PARADISE
1 x S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CLEAR SKY
1 x INFINITE UNDISCOVERY
1 x SPORE CREATURES
1 x FOOTBALL MANAGER 2008

That's 13 spots taken by recently released games, yet the ds had 12 games that charted.

On the 13th of september you had:

1 x SPORE
2 x MERCENARIES 2: WORLD IN FLAMES
3 x TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 09
1 x THE SIMS 2: APARTMENT LIFE
1 x SPORE CREATURES
2 x TNA IMPACT!
1 x TOO HUMAN
1 x VIVA PIÑATA: TROUBLE IN PARADISE

That's 12 spots taken by recently released games, yet the ds had 14 games that charted.

On the 20th of september you had:

3 x STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED
1 x WARHAMMER ONLINE: AGE OF RECKONING
1 x SPORE
2 x MERCENARIES 2: WORLD IN FLAMES
1 x CRYSIS WARHEAD
1 x TOO HUMAN
2 x TNA IMPACT!
1 x SPORE CREATURES

That's 12 spots taken by recently released games, yet the ds had 11 games that charted.

On the 27th of september you had:
3 x STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED
1 x WARHAMMER ONLINE: AGE OF RECKONING
2 x BROTHERS IN ARMS: HELL'S HIGHWAY
2 x PURE
1 x FAMILY TRAINER
1 x CRYSIS WARHEAD
1 x CIVILIZATION IV: COLONIZATION

That's 11 spots taken by recently released games, yet the ds had 10 games that charted.

So as you can see new games being released in recent times haven't significantly affected the number of ds games that have charted.

It's quite funny really, because PS3 fans will have places like Germany, Spain, France and Italy as their stronghold. When in actual fact Nintendo are just kicking everyones arse the whole world over.

Let it all out.

Don't really see why you're quoting me, but I'd say that PS3 owners went for FIFA as well. (They had 40% of FIFA launch sales, which is ~1.75 times more than 58% of PES sales. FIFA PS3 sold 75% more in launch week than PES PS3.)

Not in Norway ;) :P Well, atleast from what we have of number for the first half of 2008 in Norway. I made a post with some percentage numbers for Norway here:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12496723&postcount=87

But ye, Nintendo is doing it very very well all over the world :)

I guess it depends on how you define stronghold by the way. If it is about most software and hardware sales counting the PS3, the Wii and the Xbox 360, then i cant remember to have seen any comments recently and in a while where someone is still claiming that Germany, Spain, France and Italy is PS3's stronghold when it comes to selling most software and hardware. I think Wii is selling most in basicly every country when it comes to software and hardware. If you mean stronghold between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 only, then there might be something different :)
