PAL Charts - Week 47

spwolf said:
not really, what do you based your data on? If we check Italian numbers, where we have concrete data, difference between #1/#2 and #10 is Huge... and difference between 8-15 is minimal... Same goes with Japanese data as well. Top 2-3 games sell 3x-4x if not more from 10th game. There is no huge difference between 6th and 16th game (depends on the week of course).

Didnt we have japanese montly data per platform info which was very similar to what we saw in Swiss?

I think only conclusion when it comes to sales data is that without hard numbers, its all bullshit.
How else do you explain PSP having 1 title in the top 30 and yet it's total sales are close to the Wii and PS3? Here's the explanation: All those games are selling very close to each other. All those markets you mentioned are much larger then Switzerland. You can't seriously be comparing the Japanese market to Switzlerand. :lol

If you're going to think "it's all bullshit", then why do you keep mentioning how many times LBP chart? Surely it means nothing if you think "it's all bullshit".

It's so strange... as a Welshman when I think of New Zealand I think of massive rugby players. Somehow Singstar Abba being at the top of their charts doesn't really fit in with my image. :lol

I remember how we laughed at SEGA, their 'stupid' game that would be outsold by Galaxy tenfold and wouldn't even crack the top 10 because publishers didn't even bother to get the license for the Olympics because all the previous games bombed...

Now they've got a hit on their hands and they don't even have a sequel ready. Instead they've released a 'real' olympics game that did bomb on PS3/360 and they gave Sonic a sword

OH Sega....

Don't think the 'real' olympics game might have been in development when Mario & Sonic came out, or before?
And you're really expecting a 2009 Olympics sequel?! I'm sure the idea of a winter olympics version for 2010 will have crossed their minds.

I think they were in dev at the same time because the real olympics game came out not soon after.

what I am comparing was that in Japanese market, overall software sales for the month/week or whatever was posted in last weeks thread was actually were similar to Swiss sales, in terms of how platforms are doing vs each other.

and yeah, it is still bullshit, no matter who mentions it...

If by meaning similiar you mean "DS selling nearly the same as all the other platforms combined", then sure it is similiar.

Mario & Sonic LTD's, thx to MCV:

[WII] Mario & Sonic: 1.300.000
[NDS] Mario & Sonic: 460.000

The DS sales look quite pathetic really! Sure it's one of the top 20 selling games for the system in the UK, but it seems to have not had the party appeal that the main version did. Maybe the delayed launch hurt it more than I thought. I'd expected that to become the 6th Double plat DS game and not Brain Academy (again with a superior Wii version but this time reversed fortunes).

Was this difference echoed in other territories?

Just looking Animal Crossing DS never hit 600k either. That's got to happen between now and Easter with the Wii version boost.

Despite a HUGE advertising campaign and the arcade SKU sold at $175, x360 still seems to struggle vs the Wii ($317). I think France has become the new Nintendoland, out of all countries it is here they are the most successful.

You wouldn't know it looking at some French messageboards though, trust me.

Hasta octubre el parque de consolas de videojuegos de Sony era de 731 mil de PlayStation 3, 1.914.000 de PSP (portátil) y 4.838.000 de la PlayStation 2.
PS2 - 4.838.000
PSP - 1.914.000
PS3 - 731.000

Its until October but it doesn't say if its taking Armstrong words, using Sony own figures or or just mentioning GfK figures. Its also coming from a mexican site and I can't see the same news in any spanish ones. Oh well, better than nothing I guess.

It's... haaaaa it's gone. Those clowns (haha) from AU GfK just replace the old chart by the new one every week, so there is no way to find those at least on their website. Unless checking a couple of random random VG forums to see if it was posted somewhere... which would be a pain. Forget it :p

I might try and find last week's because that would do the same thing (show the position from the week before). It is a pain though.

You could say the same thing about here.

Yes, but it's even worse in France. And I think the Nintendomination is even greater in France than it is in the US, because even on the software side, there's barely any concession made to the PS3 or the 360, as far as the top 10 is concerned.

You mean here ? It wasn't posted IIRC. All I know is it was higher than #8 for week 45 because the .gif from GfK AU showed a decrease in LBP's rank in week 46.

What are you talking about?

The top Ten in France is usually something like this:

3x-4x Wii
2x-3x PS3
1x-2x PS2
1x-2x 360

- Week 47 top five
3x Wii
2x PS3

- Week 46

4x Wii
3x PS3
2x 360
1x PS2

- Week 45 top five
3x PS3
1x Wii
1x 360

- Week 42 top five
3x PS3
1x Wii
1x 360

Nintendo is doing well in France, but just as well (but in many cases worse) as they are in most other significant territories. Just look at the weekly UK and German charts. France is Europe's third (though a close third at that) biggest market, so if anything it is the UK and Germany that Nintendo is most successful.

Having lived in North America for the last two years and experienced the Wii/DS madness, then looking at Japan's charts, it's very possible that Nintendo considers itself "most successful" in one of those countries, too.

So basically, it's probably more like:
1. USA
2. Japan
3. UK
4. Germany
5. France

France is usually much more Nintendo-heavy than it is now. A month of big holiday releases for 360/PS3 only makes things more even. Then it's back to more of the same Wii/DS domination for 11 months of the next year.

Quite possibly in the UK. WW, doubt it. Until we have NPD for both Nov and Dec that would hard to say. Actually just going by the data we have on mygamercard to date WW would be near impossible.

Oh yea, funny guy that analyst above heh.

I don't know what Epic was thinking, Fenix and company sent to die it seems.

Having played a small part in the COD5 beta, I can't really see what all the insanity is about (it plays almost exactly like COD3 for me, which I wasn't a huge fan of either, but with a lower player count), but it really looks like COD4's legacy is going to carry this game to insane numbers, much like GH2 -> GH3.
