Konami announces GTI Club Supermini Festa! for Wii

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
GTI Club wheel spins on to Wii

Konami’s latest coin-op racer heads to new pastures

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH is bringing its classic GTI Club racing franchise to Wii early next year, in the form of GTI Club Supermini Festa! (provisional title).

Currently scheduled for a Spring 2010 release, GTI Club Supermini Festa! is based on the latest arcade iteration of the long-running series, and charges the player with racing a series of compact cars around a series of citiscapes across France, the UK, Italy, the US, and Japan. Everything about the game is geared towards searing speed and intuitive handling, with players tussling with CPU-controlled cars or their friends through busy streets as they attempt to be the first past the winning line.

Every stage has been designed for total freedom, with secret short cuts to find and steep hills and hairpin bends designed to test the player’s skill. Control is everything, and the Wii game enjoys beautifully balanced control systems that allow users to slide deftly around corners, whiz through extremely tight alleyways to bypass the other cars, and perform handbrake turns to shave vital seconds from lap times. In addition to the twelve cars from the arcade version, Konami is planning to add four more licensed cars to the mix, each offering different handling and acceleration balance.

GTI Club Supermini Festa! offers two key solo options, with Arcade offering a straight replication of the coin-op, while the new GTI Quest is a tour of the world, with a series of key objectives. Multi-player elements also play a massive part in the game, with the arcade game’s four-player mode faithfully recreated via a split-screen mode and online via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection’s online capabilities. Online, the game can be played as either a straight racer or as a series of fun sub-games including Bomb Tag and football.

Everything about GTI Club Supermini Festa! has been designed to give the player a feeling of sheer speed and total control, and users can also add a personal touch to their car via the extensive customisation features in the game’s Garage section.

No screens yet.

I pride myself on never buying shitty products but I'm slipping as of late. The GTI Club remake on PSN is as boring as watching paint dry, but that may be the reason why it faded into arcade obscurity and conveniently swept under the rug by Konami till now.

Steer clear of this sinking ship fellow gamers.

Exactly. "long-running series" is a joke of a PR statement.

How's this for optimism - the PSN version is shit.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
I like the game, hope the new locals get added to the PSN version...

I'm amazed they never put the mini-games (like Car Soccer) from the new arcade game into the PSN version, especially since the new arcade version came out last year.

The arcade looks pretty good, lots of short cuts and jumps. Where is the Peugeot 205 GTI (or T16) though.

Car pack came out a couple of months ago.

it has new modes?

It's just cars, no new modes which makes it a bit pointless.

You would hope that they will do the right thing and offer some of the stuff from the Wii version as DLC for the PSN version.

The buildings are so blocky I'm sure you could cut yourself running a finger through them.

Are the bystanders actually cardboard photos of people or what? I thought this trick had died with Duke Nukem 3D or something.

And... Peugeot 207? Not 205 or 206, but 207? Really?

Could be fun, though. It's GTi Club, after all.

I think the PSN version spoiled me...

I might buy it on the cheap.

Wow...a bit disappointed by those pics to say the least. That's like Road Rash 3DO quality...
Oh, c'mon. The graphics look very generic and last gen, but anyone who actually played Road Rash on 3DO could never say that with a straight face.

I think the graphics look alright on the whole but what bothers me is that the "crowd" seems to consist of sprites -- wasn't this already considered archaic last generation?

That's right, this looks even a bit better than Gran Turismo 2!

Not that I care, but it's good to see that Wii developers are forking to racers (another very 'casual' genre, but more sophisticated than minigame collections). Maybe in a couple of years we'll have some unlicensed 3D action games.

I wish I still had that picture from back when the Wii remote was first unveiled with the A-Button as the 'win' button as the only button on the controller.

Wrong. GTI Club Supermini Festa is actually the 2nd coin-op game released last year.

Both the PSN and this Wii version are ports of that game.

I played it in the arcade and it even has e-amusement support. Not that the game didn't suck.

No, the PSN game was an update of the original coin-op.

Oops, looks like I am wrong too. :lol :lol :lol

I must admit though, after playing the lackluster arcade version, I have totally lost interest in this "franchise". At least Konami seems to still be supporting the arcade game with online events.
