Civilization V System Requirements - Can YOU play the biggest game of 2010?

So I have an E8400 at stock (3Ghz) and a 512Mb 4850 - playing at 1360x768. I'm presuming I'm good for a steady 30fps with all settings max, just a little chug here and there towards the end game as the AI has to work through all its options?

I have:

Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.5 ghz
3.5 gigs ram
Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M

Does this satisfy the minimum requirements?

GOD PLEASE TELL ME.

No chance on the graphics, I am pretty sure those are integrated.

Holy shit this game looks awesome but there is no way I can afford a new comp. I will be waiting with tons of envy.

Thank god that I barely meet the minimun system requirements, which means that I will not play this game until I upgrade my hardware, extending my life for 2 months.

Then I will be gone.

Operating System: Windows® XP SP3/ Windows® Vista SP2/ Windows® 7
Processor: Dual Core CPU / 3.0GHz dual core CPU (Athlon 64 X2 5800)
Memory: 2GB RAM / 4GB DDR2, iirc, don't remember the speed
Hard Disk Space: 8 GB Free / Like 300GB free space, probably about 100GB free by the time the game is released due to eternal porn onslaught
DVD-ROM Drive: Required for disc-based installation / Yup
Video: 256 MB ATI HD2600 XT or better, 256 MB nVidia 7900 GS or better, or Core i3 or better integrated graphics / GeForce 7025 (integrated graphics) but just ordered a 9600GT this morning
Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card / ...probably?
DirectX®: DirectX® version 9.0c / should be

Internet Connection and acceptance of Steam™ Subscriber Agreement required for activation. See www.steampowered.com/agreement for details / have internet but haven't read the agreement

I can probably run it well enough for my needs -- I played Duke 3D with a cpu half the speed of that on its minimum requirements (I remember it playing in smooth slow motion instead of dropping frames and jerking around like modern games tend to, so it was perfectly playable and made the game easier!), and I'm above the minimums here. The only real annoyance is that the chipset in my computer supports quad core (Phenom X4) cpus, but my vendor (Shuttle) never released the BIOS update that would enable this support. Grrr!

One potential annoyance is that civ4 ran in one thread, so even though it maxed out one of my cores, I could multitask very effectively while using it due to an entirely unused core. Now, the game will use everything, making my browsing and video watching (between the loooong turns of huge-map civ) problematic.

...and it would be nice if it isn't too long before I can run it via wine.

Looks like I'm fine (quad, 4GB, etc.) except for my pesky 4350. I was looking to upgrade to a 5570 1GB DDR3 - anyone any idea of whether or not that should be good enough? I'm stuck with low-profile cards (I have a 1680x1050 display and it would be pretty awesome if I could go native on that one)

Yeah, I wonder how it will play in windowed mode while you are doing other stuff. One of the many reasons Civ is so great is that you can play while pretending to your girlfriend that she has your full attention.

4GB ram, a 5850 but still with a C2D (E7400). Going for 1920x1200 on medium or high graphic settings.

Hell no.

I play with 18 civilizations, with the biggest map known to mankind.

And my 2009 laptop still has some problems with Civ IV. I have 72 cities in the current game Im playing, and I cant play more than an hour or I get a blue screen.

Also: What does this mean:

Video: 256 MB ATI HD2600 XT or better, 256 MB nVidia 7900 GS or better, or Core i3 or better integrated graphics

Is there a chart showing where my laptop nvidea card fits in?

Its not a Civ game unless you can succesfully destroy enemy tanks with you trusty catapult. It has served for 1500 years, it can serve a few more!

Forget catapults, it's all about spearmen on modern armour action!

going to DESTOREY this game and i'm glad it won't try to fry my gpu like that POS starcraft 2

Man so much wrong with this post but yeah you wouldn't have an issue anyway, it's not like Civ 5 specs are that crazy.

Actually... I can! Horray for my aging 9800 GTX+!

Only thing is, I don't have a quad core, only a 2.7 GHz dual core. However, I've never seen a game that truly requires a quad core except for GTA IV (which chugs along horribly no matter what I do :( )

Interesting. Can't wait to see how it plays out.

Peace is lame though, Nuclear Gandhi don't play no peace!
Man, I would hate to play you. My gameplan in Civ IV was always to go for as much culture as possible. I hated having to go to war so it usually ended up with me building enough troops to defend my borders while working madly to get my technology up. If I happened to get to nukes though and I was still at war with someone, all bets were off.

5570 is a pretty shite card, the best you can get in low profile is the 5750/5770 which I believe only PowerColor makes in low profile and they are extremely hard to find.

Operating System: Windows® 7 pass
Processor: 3.7 GHz Quad Core CPU i5 750 pass
Memory: 4 GB RAM pass
Hard Disk Space: 8 GB Free pass
DVD-ROM Drive: Required for disc-based installation pass
Video: 896 MB nVidia GTX 260 216 core in SLI pass
Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card pass (have my own soundcard, though it's creative. :( )
DirectX®: DirectX® version 11 don't pass

i think i will pick up that GTX 480.

I remember the last thread. Can't remember how I felt about the quad recommendation though (damn endless march of technology).

forgive my ignorance, but how does a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M measure up?

Should compare favourably to the hd2600 and pass minimum specs at least. Civ IV spins up laptop fans like no other though so watch out for that.

I pass for everything but it blows my mind games are already suggesting the 4800 series as recommended. I have a 4870x2 so i should be good.

I mean Civ 5 isnt exactly the crysis of games when it comes to visuals too. Sure it may look nice but im having a hard time wondering where the graphic power is needed.

They've also got the "9800" series listed there, which means the 8800GT which was $200 3 years ago or the 4 year old 8800GTX hit recommended just fine. The "4800" series is just listed because its a popular GPU series and a better reference than something like a 3870 which no one owns.

Its the same with the quad recommendation. Sure a 3ghz Core 2 will prform just as well in the game, but it makes more sense to list the quad as it shows people that the game is optimised for multiple threads and that potential buyers are better off upgrading to a midrange quadcore rather than a highly clocked dual core CPU.

There's nothing outrageous about these specifications at all, again, 4 year old hardware (8800GTX + Q6600) passes the recommended settings comfortably.

Well you're closer to recommended than minimum so you should be fine so long as you're not expecting to max it out.

Haven't found any game (minus Crysis) that my machine can't run at max settings as yet... and the system is getting close to 2.5 years old...

Q9550 + 4870x2 ftw.

This combined with Football Manager will ruin my life. :lol

No doubt. Most games are designed with consoles in mind, so systems such as yours should run most any game at more than playable settings. I got rid of my 8800gt at the beginning of this year for a 5770 and to be honest, I probably didn't need to.

Yah, mate picked up the same card with similar results... entirely frustrating really...

About the only way to push PCs is to get some whopping high-res monitor to play on. :D

My laptop has a 256MB Geforce 8400M GT. My desktop...well it's a 5 year old PowerMac G5.

So I guess not, at least not until I get a new desktop. I'll wait until the Mac version of Civ V.

Well you meet minimum!?

Might be worth trying the demo.
