EA’s ‘Battlefield 3’ holds off the competition to retain the No1 spot, despite a 54% drop in sales from last week.

It’s the first time a Battlefield title has retained the Top Spot as the last iteration, ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’, was only No1 for its debut week before being dethroned by Square Enix’s ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ back in Week 10 2010. This means that Sony and Naughty Dog’s latest installment in the PS3 exclusive Uncharted series, ‘Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception’, has to settle for second place, recording the 11th highest PS3 launch week. It achieved an increase of 37% in sales from the previous title, ‘Uncharted 2: Among Thieves’, which also debuted at No2 over two years ago, pipped at the post by another EA title, ‘FIFA 10’. Sega’s ‘Sonic Generations’ is the only other new entry to breach the Top 10 at No10 with the rest of the titles in-between jostling for position.

EA’s ‘FIFA 12’ (-10%) holds at No3, ahead of Warner’s ‘Batman: Arkham City’ (-60%), down two places to No4. Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 3’ (-10%) is at No5 for the third week in a row, moving ahead of Sega’s ‘Football Manager 2012’ (-43%) which is down two places to No6. Microsoft’s ‘Forza Motorsport 4’ (-25%) slips down a place to No7 followed by 505 Games’ ‘Zumba Fitness’ (+35%) and Activision Blizzard’s ‘Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure’ (+17%) both holding firm at No8 and No9 respectively. The only other title to enter the Top 40 is Activision Blizzard’s Goldeneye classic, making its debut on Xbox 360 and PS3 this week with ‘Goldeneye: Reloaded’ coming in at No16.

Impressed that Uncharted 3 sold more than Uncharted 2 on launch. I thought BF3 would have hurt it badly.

Edit - Though I've just noticed that Uncharted 2 released on a Friday, Uncharted 3 released on a Tuesday... which I guess could make them fairly even in terms of first weeks.

Wow dude nice work.

11th best selling sounds worse than it is, I think. Top 10 you've probably got 4 CODs, 4 FIFAs, GT5 and GTA4.

I do think the numbers are a bit disappointing going by the huge marketing campaign and reception. It's gonna drop pretty quick, I think, there are still a ton of titles to release.

Damm next week is going to be brutal for a lot of those games you have to wonder how badly UC3 will drop when MW3 arrives on the PS3 this week.

House of the Dead appears to be a big time bomba. 29 on the PS3 chart last week and 30 this week. Sims is ahead of it and BKK has that being under 900 units.

I know it's not a game that would have big expectations but likely being under 2K units in two weeks can't be good with any expectations. Probably stores out there that haven't sold a single copy.

Wasn't HotD:O a moderate success on Wii? 2&3 Collection fared very good afaik.

Uncharted 3: 4 Cods, 3 Fifa (swap FIFA2008 for Red Dead Redemption, iirc) and GTA4, not bad.
But it's now clear that the series will never achieve huge exclusive KA status (like Halo, GT5 or
Gears), at least in the UK.

DDP:R has sold then what, like 400 copies? :/
I'm sure it'll have good legs since online retailers will likely drop it to £12 pretty soon, Death Smiles sold pretty good (in perspective) but it had a lower RRP.

I don't think it drops off that much, I'd guess closer to 1k. To get some more perspective, Death Smiles actually made #38 in the Individual Formats Top40, albeit in what was probably a slower week (week 07 was 819,731 units, week 43 was 1,300,858). But it will be interesting to see which price they choose for their next release.

Top 100 is crazy. Titles must be selling in the low hundreds by the time you get into the 80s.

I doubt it drops that low, the further down you go the more bunched together they become. UK is similar sized market to Germany, and you can generally find over 100 titles there that should be in 4 figures.

I thought the UK had a bigger software market than Germany?

Anyway, even 1,000 units are fairly nothing numbers.

That's not a strong start for Sonic in Germany.

We didn't get Individual Format charts then, but for what it's worth it was #1 in the GameCube chart for all 23 weeks from it's release until Chart-Track dropped the GameCube chart. It never got an ELSPA Award, but Wind Waker did get a Silver (100,000+).

Heh, seems that the UK is the only region where Twilight Princess outsold Link's Crossbow Training.

UK top 40: Modern Warfare 3 sells fewer than Black Ops

Modern Warfare 3 sold "just under" two million copies - 1.6 per cent less than Black Ops, according to Gfk Chart-Track.

However, Modern Warfare 3 took more money than Black Ops, raking in £83.1 million - 1.5 per cent more.

Combine the money made by Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops' in their opening weeks, and they total more than the combined opening weekends of all eight Harry Potter films in the UK.

More copies of Modern Warfare 3 were sold on Xbox 360 than on PlayStation 3 - 59 per cent to 41 per cent.
