Max Payne 3 |OT| Funny as hell, we couldn't decide on a sub-title

OMG the female New Jersey accent in multi is GOLD. The taunts are hilarious.

BAHAHAHAHAH it's like I'm playing with the cast of the Jersey Shore/Housewives of NJ. She's such a prick rofl

graphics are good but looks really soft, almost blurry. Is this game sub hd? I'm also not liking the reticle. Its so tiny that it gets lost in the action sometimes.

Platform?

The latest impressions in this thread have been great. As long as the gunplay and audio is satisfying then I am sure the game will be right up my alley.

Wow the game is nuts.
just got to the first bar scene
, and I've been replaying it over and over! I'm not surprised R* made a great game, but I am surprised they made a great Max Payne game. Although, I will say that this iteration feels a little more grounded than the previous games, but it's still great nonetheless.
I will also say that I hope the sniper sections are far and few between. Seems out of place honestly. I'm expecting R* to throw in things that make sense and are fun.

I'm at Chapter 4 and I absolutely love this game.

The way the story is presented and how the cutscenes flow right into gameplay and vice versa is so cool. I seriously feel like I'm in an interactive movie or something.

A lot of the game still has the original gameplay features from Max Payne 1 and 2 and I'm glad to see that.

At first I was a little turned off by the realistic approach to how many weapons you can carry. Part of the fun in the first 2 games was being a one man army with this crazy arsenal at your disposal. However, I quickly got attached to this new realistic way of managing the guns you carry and I think it fits the game well.

Can't wait to play more tomorrow. I don't even care about multiplayer so that will just be a bonus when I get around to that after I beat the single player once.

I completely agree with the spoiler part you wrote at the end. I didn't hate those moments, and the music and everything made it kinda flow well. But yes, to me that part felt kinda like something from Uncharted, and sometimes Uncharted doesn't have the most unique combat experiences lol.

I get the feeling that many are trying very hard to compare this to uncharted (although the original mps came first), and that may be fair (if we're talking uncharted 2), but, as you said, it's not the most unique experience in a very unique game. I just don't want MP3 to become something MP isn't supposed to represent, but the majority of everything so far hits the nail on the head

Edit:
Additionally, the story justifies the action and makes for a very interesting and fun shooting experience. There's a great deal of room for experimentation during battle, yet it's strange a jump button wasn't included.
I wonder what they're reasoning is for that?
Despite that, it's truely a wonderful evolution and interpretation of the original series. R* knows Max Payne better than any studio other than Remedy.

Anyone else think they're splitting the multiplayer community by making one playlist for softlock and one for free aim? It's a great idea and I like it but later on, it'll be hard to find lobbies.

Haven't stopped playing this game since I got it. It's been hours of absolute bliss.
This is one of the best games i've played eva!

The cinematics, the gun play, the acting, the atmosphere, the story...etc is absolutely top notch.
Bag another one for Rockstar..fucking 10!

And Net_Wrecker, I've a feeling you've not played Gears 3, as I guarantee you'd be giving it a mention in that spiel.

I've played all 3 Gears games to completion one or multiple times, and put hours online with them. I'm sure it's a ton of people's favorite online game, but it never really hooked me. Gears 1 was okay until the Christmas rush in 2006, and the game went to hell. Gears 2 was DOA online for me. WAY too much lag + host advantage. Gears 3 was damn solid and I put something like 20-30 hours online, but still...

THIS game on the other hand is almost everything I've wanted from a shooter for a long time. Every single weapon is useful, deaths are FAST and brutal, lots of close quarters shootouts, BULLET TIME WORKS AS ADVERTISED, super quick respawns, day/night versions of the maps, minimal lag, character customization for every faction and both genders, and best of all: the physics. ...the beautifully random Euphoria physics that make every kill look like a highlight. I will hold this night dear to me before the community inevitably breaks the game and finds all the exploits. Hopefully Rockstar patches often so it never comes to that.

I was complaining about that prior to release. The soft-lock lobbies shouldn't even exist. Unless you truly can't aim, there's no way you suck bad enough to not be able to play free aim. Often you can run into a skirmish just blasting and pick up 2-3 blindside kills. Plus free aim matches have way more variety in terms of weapon choice, distance of encounters, and better bullet time moments. Anyone sticking to soft-lock lobbies is doing themselves a disservice.

yep I was too lazy to take another picture. so you have to do with the same pic on the pick up thread that I just posted

Aww, I read somewhere that the European version would have that alternate cover art with Max holding the shot glass :/

Looks like the UK release date is just right for me, seeing as how I'll be going back home from Uni on Friday anyway.

7 chapters down. Been a blast so far. Really picks up at the start of disc 2.

Ran into a shitty checkpoint in chapter 6, though. Had really bad checkpointing twice now, really my only complaint so far.

It's really easy to have a bad game because it's really easy to die. That also means it's not that hard to go on a rampage out of nowhere where you feel like the John Wooeist mofo on the planet. Just keep in mind that your next kill may send you into Chow Yun Fat mode.

Pointing this out only because it reminded me that Max Payne 2 "Max" skin in multiplayer drops some killer taunts including one thats something like "I'll make like Chow Yun Fat on your ass!" that had me rolling.

Is it where she's calling people pieces of shit and whatnot? That had us all cracking up because I used her in a game of TDM in a private game with friends and a buddy all of sudden goes "Jesus...are you guys hearing this chick talking absolute smack to me? Who the fuck is playing as her?!" not knowing it was me.

Beautiful. I'm disappointed the classic skins are only available in DM though since I never play FFA game types. MP2 Max and Mona Sax gonna be gathering dust :(

Pretty sure that's her. She has a bunch of great mean spirited quotes that add the ultimate insult to injury. I wish I could understand the non-English speaking characters.

Also, I totally understand what might've been the reasoning behind having the opposing nametags show all the time. The kind of third person perspective you spend most of the match in (when using Free Aim anyway) is a bit farther back than most TPS's these days which leads to shooting at a smaller target. The maps are also very detailed which would make it extremely hard to actually SEE people at distance without the tag. I don't know if there's some piece of equipment, or burst that hides the tags, but I'd suspect it'll be abused soon enough if it's in the game because it'll work extremely well. I'm fine with the nametags now. Average life span is rarely over 90 seconds anyway.

I'm on the last chapter now. I've been playing straight all day since I had the day off. Wowzers. I've not enjoyed a SP experience like this in a while.

The story is pretty damned compelling. I'm still shocked about the NY sections. I honestly feel that they're like a good 1/3rd of the game.

Everything about this game just blows me away. The costuming, the attention to detail, the environments, everything.

I feel that this game has had no expense spared in making it an all-out spectacle. Holy shit.

Haven't even played the MP modes yet.

So GAF who have already enjoyed MP3 and like the mp mode. Have you changed your mind about Rockstar pass? Everybody said something like I don't care mp in Max Payne in the other thread.

Max Payne 3 is definitely Grade A and belongs in Rockstar's 'finest' list. The whole Brazil 'papi!, suade!' thing might not be for everyone but there is no denying that the story and atmosphere grabs your attention on the get-go. People are going to be in for a surprise once they reach the favela and beyond. It is hard, it is brutal and some parts may even downright shock you but in the end the love is there for both the character Max Payne, as well as the entire gameplay mechanic that lies beneath.

OMG this sounds so good. I loved the first two, but hearing the impressions I don't really mind the change of tone in the third game. As long as it's got a good atmosphere I'm fine.

I just hope Rockstar doesn't drag this franchise to the ground. A fourth would be enough for the series.

Publishers should learn about integrity once in a while and let a franchise rest instead of giving everything so many sequels.

As soon as Chapter IV starts, how can you feel like this isn't Max Payne, from a writing perspective?

"I'd been sitting at the bar for 3 hours... or about 5 years, depending on how you look at things. I try not to look at things (...)"

Come on, if that isn't Max Payne, I don't know what Max Payne is.

His quotes in the entire game are just pure writing genius.

Absolutely loving this game. With my 7.1 cranked, I felt like I was in a good Michael Mann film. The story, the presentation, the animation, the sound. My god! What a game. Finished Act 1 and couldn't stop. Already seeing myself playing this over and over.

Game is incredible...couldnt stop playing it yesterday. My only gripe is that it does feel liek the console versions run at 20-25 fps in singleplayer. Suprisingly and doesnt take too much away from the game but ti was a bit jarring at first.

Multiplayer however seems to be a solid 30fps.

I;m sure this has allready been asked, but is there some site or some one on this forum who has played both the 360 and the ps3 version?

I'd like to know the differences between them..

I'm trying not to spoil myself too much, but this sure as hell sounds like Max Payne.

You people are making the wait more painful and me more miserable.

This game just might have the sexiest casing ejections I've ever seen. I seriously can't stop looking at them, I think I have a problem.

There are times where I do not care if I die or not. Going out from cover, holding down the left trigger and then fire the shotgun in bullet time mode. That there is almost orgasmic.

Haven't played the X360 version, but the PS3 version looks pretty damn good, has 7.1 support, and is on a single disc. I am going to wager this is Rockstar's best effort yet on PS3. There is some pop-in at times during cutscenes, there is a dip in frame rate during a rain scene, and the default fire button is R2. It is super easy to swap the fire buttons, and the other stuff I mentioned has no effect on gameplay. Oh, and there is a large install at the beginning.

A lot of the 'new' gamers who grew up with games that feature regenerating health will absolutely piss on Max Payne 3 and its painkiller system. That is why 90% of all the MP3 youtube footages we have seen showed a terrible player playing it like another Modern Warfare. Them kids should be banished. The suspension for surviving in a tough area with zero painkillers left is one of the thrills that makes gaming fun.

There appears to be indications that your ability to execute certain maneuvers may alter the story. Also, I am playing with "free aim", and I think that adds significantly to the risk/reward thrill of the gameplay as well.

Let me emphasize this: if you have surround sound or good headphones, this game is porn for your ears. The bullet time sounds of your gun firing are just plain sexy.

I've realized something in replaying checkpoints. Euphoria actually makes me look forward to replaying areas so that I can watch guys drop in different ways.

After playing basically all day yesterday, I am blown away by the single player. Everything from the story to the gunplay is just amazing to me. I played a little bit of MP, but SP has kept my attention. I just got to the part when Max
shaves his head
. Bravo to Rockstar for delivering another great title this gen. Other than LA Noire, they have killed it for me so far.
