THQ’s San Diego studio has been shuttered following the sale of the UFC license – the team’s main concern – to EA Sports.

“THQ confirms that today’s announcement regarding the UFC license transition will affect the company’s San Diego studio,” the publisher said in a statement.

“THQ is working closely with those relevant staff to either find possible employment within the company, or potentially with EA.”

Industry figures have respond to the news with criticism of THQ’s timing of the announcement when it is likely to be swallowed by E3 hype.

Damn, terrible news for the offices. Hope they didn't see it coming, sucks being hype for E3 only to have this happen.

Couldn't they have given these guys the WWE license instead?

Ruthless, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Don't know how anyone could make an argument for that studio being a part of their core.

Horrible fucking news. Why in the world would they keep Yukes and fire this studio? Allstars was great. The WWE franchise would have been in much better hands with them. Oh well, not like it matters, there won't be a WWE '14 under THQ.

Jason Rubin pulls an Iraqi general mind trick this morning on Spike. Everything's normal, perfectly fine. We'll get rid of a few games...

Wasn't wwe trying to sue their way out of thq licensing a few years ago?

Yukes, not THQ. They were suing Yukes, which is in partnership with THQ.

WWE All-Stars may have been fun, but sold quite poorly. It's sad, but it's not like the studio was producing anything worthy of keeping them around sales-wise.
