Amount of crappy smart phone games from them in the future

edit: I came back to give you the actual explanation but looks like miladesn has it covered below :)

The main difference is that EL is not reported on the earnings but separately instead and is caused by special circumstances, like the case here or something like natural disasters and not directly related to the state of the business itself. This is to show how well a business is performing better and separating these one time rare cases from the usual flow of the business, though for Square Enix this is the second time they are reporting an EL in a short period, with change of management and restructuring not too surprising

So the unusual circumstance is "Oops, we forgot to release a major title this quarter"? Isn't that just a plain old planning screw up considering it's a major publisher?

Though you could argue that having to do a major restructure of development priorities is a result of poor business management rather than environmental factors.

Only option they have now is to create Lightning Strikes Back and Lightning: The Phantom Menace

See above, it's their only shot!

Revenge of the Lightning

It's actually an FFX spin off where you get struck by lightning for 40 hours

They're all iOS games

yes of course. But this is to show how they performed in this quarter, for example if you remove those losses because of restructuring. Afterall those losses affect the company long term and are for changes within the company and not related to how they performed in the last quarter, which is still bad by itself, but it could look a lot worse if they added those losses too which might not be close to reality of their current operating state.

I hope those ARR subs come rolling in because a HD remaster of an 11 year old game on a console that's about to be replaced is not going to cut it.

I say do more Lightning games to cover this loss. I know my money you will have Square. Still, its clearly their fault to invest in lame games like Hitmeh and Bomb Harder.

Extra Ordinary, as in it is not a loss caused by normal means, but due to write downs and other loss booking techniques to make future quarters look better.

Is it safe to say they are primarily a browser/phone developer now? I wonder how much of this could have been avoided if they adopted some form of western middleware at the beginning of the generation.

Don't worry guys, the FF VI remake for iOS made on RPG Maker will save them.

You do this to yourself Square Enix.

- Fuck you for your stupid bone headed decisions.
- Fuck you for putting Kingdom Hearts on every fucking platform ever with zero care for the fans who want to keep up. PS2 --> GBA -- >DS --> PSP --> 3DS --> Cell Phones.
- Fuck you for making Star Ocean / Infinite Undiscovery exclusive to 360 and killing of early HD RPG games.
- Fuck you for just NOW discovering HD Remasters of previous titles, and not being forward thinking enough to release them on 360, Wii U, PS4, Xbone, or PC.
- Finally, Fuck you for relegating the following titles to obscurity or giving them the iOS treatment:

Secret of Mana
Chrono Trigger
Kingdom Hearts
Einahnder
Grandia
Valkyrie Profile
Ehrgeiz
Threads of Fate

Is it that hard in this day and age to port these games to all platforms? Don't miss a single device. Not doing a Vita port, PC port, or Wii U port is money left on the table. Continue hemorrhaging, the vultures will swoop in eventually.
