Three brilliant people (Tyson, Druyan, MacFarlane) who were touched by Carl Sagan are bringing his beautiful humanist worldview to a new generation.

This will be special.

Doesn't air until the 16th, over here. FECK!

Though I'm glad that Seth MacFarlane helped make a show like this possible (and maybe cach up on the Carl Sagan version one of these days). Especially on a traditional US network like Fox.

I'm really looking forward to this. COSMOS is one of those shows that I rewatch every couple years. It's not even all that outdated since it focuses more on the original discoveries of space, stars and evolution than the latest findings.

The original has a languid pace that isn't really seen much on TV these days. I expect this reworking of the series to be a bit more fast paced - the trailers certainly hint at this. But I trust the people involved not to gloss over the important aspects of the original series - it's not just about space - it's about the importance of science and skepticism and the breadth of human achievement.

And finding philosophical and spiritual meaning within a humanist and scientific worldview. A key aspect of the original Cosmos.

This. The series has meant so much to me in the past 10 years because of this very reason.

So ready for this. Its going to be kind of a family event in my house. I hope they pay some kind of tribute to Carl Sagan, more of the world needs to know about him.

If the trailers are anything to go by, the reboot will be a massive love letter to Carl.

As soon as I saw footage of Neil standing on the same windswept coastal cliffs that Carl did over 30 years ago, I knew they were doing this right.

Pretty excited and am shocked that this is airing on Fox of all channels.

The MacFarlane factor. It will also be on National Geographic.

When you say "airing on FOX", are you referring to the same Fox News that erodes my brain cells at an astounding rate?

Let's stick with this thread. I didn't see the previous one and fluffydelusions did a nice job with the OP.

Here's a few relevant posts from the other thread:

I can't even explain how hyped I am for this. Absolutely loved the original and Carl Sagan is the biggest inspiration I've ever had. Neil is also a great science spokesperson and a very charismatic dude, so I can only imagine good things will come from this.

I must have seen this a hundred times already. Goosebumps, man!

HHHhhNNNNgggggg!

I was just watching How the Universe Works on Netflix. then I started watching vids on http://www.cosmosontv.com/

NYT has a good article too

Oh hell yes! Definitely gonna tune in for this.

You guys can RSVP to an early screening on the 4th at this website:

Unfortunately, LA was full, but Chicago was still available. Check for a city near you.

I've never seen the original and I was certain it was on Netflix so I was planning on marathoning it but it was pulled in September.

Guess I'll just watch the new one.

I can't express how excited I am for this show. Will watch broadcast, DVR it for later rewatch, and then buy the Blu-Ray to show my kids one day. So happy to see this on a big network and Fox at that seeing that their News arm would say this is a liberal hit job on God.

I adore the original and Carl Sagan and I just love Tyson so I'm looking forward to this!

The main website says it'll be available for viewing on fox.com (unless I'm not reading into it right). I work afternoons so I can't watch it on tv so I need some online source to watch it in the morning during breakfast!

I'm definitely watching this. And I'll probably buy it on blu-ray eventually too.

I heard that an Extended version will be shown the day after on National Geographic.
Is this true? As I'll skip the Fox version and watch it the next day instead... :p

I'm so thankful this is going to be on FOX (as we only have basic cable in our household)

I'll be watching this with my little sisters! I can't wait for them to be exposed to some proper mindblowing science.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
I can't get FOX without cable. Somehow they managed to block it. I don't know if it's some deal they have with our cable company, but I don't have a way of watching it.

You can't get an over the air signal? You'd need an antennae, but I haven't heard of a Fox Affiliate that doesn't broadcast a signal.

I don't have an antennae hooked up, but I'm somehow able to watch all the other major networks. Not sure how that works. Up until about 2 years ago, I was able to watch Fox as well, but then one day it disappeared and I wasn't able to find it again.

Yeah I have TWC and they blocked all regular access a while back. I just picked up an antenna from the dollar store and I'm able to get all over the stuff like FOX.

Weird. Go here: http://www.silicondust.com/support/channels/ and enter your zip. It should bring up a list of channels that are free and over the air. It might help to look up your Fox's channel number of their site (for example my area's affiliate is Fox 25).

Maybe they switched their channel number and you need to rescan your channel list in your TV. Worth a shot, at least.
