I thought it was a pretty neat video, so here it is : Jake Kaufman just uploaded a video with the Propeller Knight BGM + the Boss Music, in Famitracker.

YouTube

You are listening to, and watching, the Propeller Knight stage and boss music from the amazing upcoming game, Shovel Knight!

Now, you may have already heard the stage music, because we live-streamed me writing it last year, shortly after development began. But I guarantee you haven't heard this final, VRC6-enhanced version yet, let alone the boss music!

This isn't some lame NES soundalike program, it's data that can actually compile and run on a real Famicom console! If it sounds crazier than normal NES music, that's because it uses the same expansion sound chip as the Japanese version of Castlevania 3.

Also, being in a largely Capcom-inspired style, there are hardly any echoes or complex instrument programming, so this is practically empty-looking compared to my usual stuff, which makes even me kind of dizzy to look at.

To hear what I do WITHOUT the VRC6 or any stylistic constraints, check out http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/fx4 -- and make sure you've had a few cups of coffee, or some ritalin.

Science facts:

- Shut uuuuup, I know the volume column has no effect on the triangle channel (well, 0 does, anyway). I think I copy-pasted from sawtooth at some point and forgot to clean up. I do what I want.

- Shovel Knight comes out really soon for your computer or video game devices! If you don't buy it, I'll be very upset with you! Go to shovelknight.com for more info!

- The soundtrack will be available too! I'll tell you how to get it in the near future. Don't worry, my loves, about 50 tracks of this stuff will soon be yours to enjoy!

- If you haven't already heard, we have been endowed with a pair of level themes from THE ORIGINAL COMPOSER OF MEGA MAN 1, the incomparable Manami Matsumae. Yes, she's still got it, 25 years later. Unbelievably catchy.

- My dog Nugget is right here and he says "YO"

Force me to listen to 8-bit Rebecca Black and Lock if old or not thread-worthy enough.

Watching him come up with this on the livestream was kind of amazing. Excited to hear the boss music.

For some reason there's a slightly grating effect on some of the sounds as the volume is increased which isn't present on the soundcloud and KS uploads of Clockwork Tower, Pridemoor Keep, and the boss theme. I'm guessing this is because of youtube limits.

Not the hugest fan on the boss music. I think sticking to variations of one boss theme would have been cooler, IMO. It's nice but not as impressive as some of the other tracks.

Really well done music, it has some nice melodies. It does feel like it has a bit too much going on at once at times, but I like it.

I didn't understand that comment, what was it supposed to mean?

There's no modifier for the channel of that sound's projection. It's either on or off, but the frequency can't be changed like it can with the other sound channels.

It's like telling something with a fixed volume to be louder than it can physically go, but it can only sound at one volume, so the command is just there and does absolutely nothing lol
