Konami saying digital entertainment sales for 9 months was 25% consumer games and 30% from SNS games
via twitter
Konami Corporation released its financial results today for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, revealing operating income of 10.3 billion yen ($106 million) and a 37 percent decrease in video game sales at 10.8 million units.

Konami posted 217.6 billion yen ($2.13 billion) in net revenue and 6.2 billion yen ($60 million) in net income. The company's forecast expects a year-over-year 2.7 percent increase in net revenues, a 1.1 percent increase in net income and 16.5 percent operating income for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2015.

Konami's Digital Entertainment business section recorded net revenues of 104.3 billion yen ($1.02 billion) and operating income of 11.7 billion yen ($114 million). The company's soccer titles brought in 3.89 million units for the year, while Metal Gear titles hit 3.37 million units. PlayStation 3 titles contributed to 49 percent of sales, PlayStation 4 at 8 percent and Xbox One at 3 percent.

The company reports "solid sales" of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, Professional Baseball Spirits 2014 and Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card games. Sustained revenue contributions came from key SNS titles such as Dragon Collection and a continued growth in number of native app downloads.

Capcom
Capcom released its financial results for the year ended March 31, 2014, revealing both sales and profits were up for the company in part due to the success of Monster Hunter 4.

The game publisher noted sales of 102.2 billion yen (roughly $1 billion) for the full year, with profits of 3.4 billion yen ($33.8 million), an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous fiscal year.

Capcom highlighted the "explosive popularity" of Monster Hunter 4 as well as strong sales for Dead Rising 3 and Resident Evil Revelations for its successful year. Monster Hunter 4 launched in September 2013 in Japan and has since sold 4.1 million units, making it Capcom's sixth best selling video game.

Likewise, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen was said to show "firm sales" while Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destiny hit its sales targets. The company also noted lower than expected sales for the release of Lost Planet 3, stating this was "due in part to intensifying competition in the European and U.S. markets." Lost Planet 3 received a 7 out of 10 from Polygon.

Credits to Konami financial results reveals 37 percent decrease in video game sales and Monster Hunter 4 boosts Capcom's full-year profits

Wanted to post myself, but was unsure if it had been shared. Good work, OP!

Metal Gear publisher Konami saw profits halved in the full financial year from 13.2bn yen ($129m) to 6.2bn ($60m).

Sales for the financial year ended March 31 were 217.6bn yen ($2.1bn), down marginally from 226bn yen ($2.2bn) for the previous year.

The publisher described sales of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Professional Baseball Spirits 2014 as “solid”.

The company confirmed it will be showing Metal Gear content at E3 next month, and it has plans to develop its sports games for Xbox One and PS4.

37% decrease is pretty staggering. I can't recall but was there a major title last year that sold drastically more then then this quarters offerings?

PES 2013 sold more than 6 mln while PES 2014 has reached 4 millions.

2 mlns decrease is about 40% less sales

Damn, Konami's got very little beyond Metal Gear. Damn, what happened?

It looks like Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is selling pretty well for Capcom. Hopefully this encourages them to make a sequel or something.

No mention of Castlevania.

Went from one of my most beloved series, to something I don't even think about.

Since Capcon profited tremondously from MH4 and other traditional titles, they will surely learn the right lesson and focus on them.

Maybe Konami's financials will push them and Kojima to get PP out sooner than later so they can reap profits.

If they can get it out by March 31st, 2015 they get it in their fiscal year report.

I just wanna play it already ;_;

Nope!

But you can have an E3 trailer full of HORSE STEALTH.

That's good enough, right?

Really hoping that MGSV is released within the next year or so.

Maybe it'll get them to split the game up some more. Play The Phantom in early 2015, play Pain in late 2015. $40 each.

They basically killed off or ruined all their other franchises. Castlevania, Silent Hill, Suikoden, Contra, etc.

Basically, what it hurts for konami are PES sales. Nearly half of the previous year.

3% of ten million (more like eleven, but whatevs) is 300k, and I don't remember any other notable PC releases this year given that PES 2014 is PS3/360 only. Their legacy catalog is not exactly wide either so most of that should be Rising, which isn't bad at all. It's also not been on sale at all since the pre-order period IIRC.

EDIT: Oh, it did come out on PC/PS2/PSP too. Although with the drop in sales for the whole franchise it still probably leaves at least 200k-ish for Rising.

PES 2014 is on PC

and so is castlevania LOS 2. 300K is pretty bad for 3 games combined imo. i was expecting rising to at least hit 500K

From Konami official report

Digital Entertainment Performance

Content for social networks, including DRAGON COLLECTION, SENGOKU COLLECTION, the Professional Baseball Dream Nine series, the World Soccer Collection series and the CROWS×WORST series continued to enjoy steady sales and contributed to our revenue. The number of registered users of these games has increased steadily due to the development of native applications for smart devices. Star Wars™: Force Collection, which we are distributing in overseas markets, has also benefitted from the development of a native application.

As for computer and video games, we released worldwide the latest title in the WORLD SOCCER Winning Eleven series, WORLD SOCCER Winning Eleven 2014 (known in the U.S. and Europe as Pro Evolution Soccer 2014) and the latest title in the METAL GEAR series, METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES. In Japan, we released PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL SPIRITS 2014, which received favorable reviews.

Amusement arcade video games continued to generate solid revenue due to the stable operation of the e-AMUSEMENT Participation system titles including MAH-JONG FIGHT CLUB and music genre games. Sales of arcade machines, including medal arcade games, were also steady. Meanwhile, the total number of cards shipped for use with a kids’ card game machine, Monster Retsuden ORECA BATTLE, has surpassed 50 million in December, 2013, and continued to be extremely popular, especially among elementary school boys. Furthermore, we held a competition to decide the ultimate champions of KONAMI arcade games, the
KONAMI Arcade Championship 2013, in which approximately 170,000 players from around the country participated in 20 categories. This contributed to improved content-value.

Digital Entertainment Outlook

With the spread of smartphones and tablet PCs worldwide, the available means of providing game software continue to diversify, and opportunities to reach an even greater audience for game software are increasing. Against this background, our belief is that we can increase the number of “outlets” for the Konami Group’s game content by taking advantage of opportunities presented by the emergence of new devices and developing our business around game content. We intend to develop ways of playing games that match the characteristics of each device.

As for content for social networks, the total number of registered users of these content we offer continue to increase steadily. We are further focusing our managerial resources on the development of content that we believe will become major hits in order to produce more hit content especially in the native application market. Looking ahead, we will continue to expand our lineup, utilizing previously established production and operational expertise and rich content resources. We also intend to develop more for new global platforms not only for markets in the U.S. and Europe but also for Asian markets. We also plan to enhance new releases with attractive content by creating synergies with established content.

As for computer and video games, we will focus our efforts on continued global development utilizing the production know-how of the Konami Group, while also continuing the production of content for selected existing titles. In this way, we intend to enhance local production systems in order to develop localized content tailored to the needs of our overseas game users as quickly as possible. In regards to the METAL GEAR series, which is a leading product of the Konami Group, we intend to develop promotional activities in connection 10 with exhibiting expos including E3 2014, which is to be held in Los Angeles, U.S., in June 2014. In addition, we intend to develop sports games, our main genre, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

As for amusement arcade machines, Konami Group intends to work to revitalize the amusement arcade industry by providing new entertainment that can be enjoyed only at an amusement facility through “interpersonal communication” using the e-AMUSEMENT system. We intend to propose innovative services that will lead the industry. This will involve promoting the continual development of equipment compatible with the PASELI e-money service and e-AMUSEMENT Participation, as well as enhancements to and the expansion of various services. With the aim of further improving content-value, we continue to provide products and services with strong content for Monster Retsuden ORECA BATTLE and DRAGON COLLECTION -The Ambition of The Pepper Gang, which begun to be broadcasted on television animation.
We expect further market recognition of these titles to increase.

As for card games, we will continue the global development of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME series in connection with a booming market due to beginning the new animated series, a situation that we believe provides us with a favorable opportunity.

To think a bit of the money they wasted on Lost Planet 3 could have gone to physical versions of Ace Attorney 5...

What about the IIDX arcade releases? Too negligible to mention? They still do them, so they must have some kind of profit..

Konami's refusal to get PES out for the next gen launch was so dumb. They rebooted the series but only allowed EA to get more headway with PS4/XB1 users.

Well, PES 14 was "dissapointing" to say at least. For me, that's the main reason.
