Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has some atrocious loading times

That seemed to be about 30 seconds, which is a little excessive.

Still nothing for us old timers...

Hahaha, right? SC:BL was pretty bad but Lego City still has that crown and I have them both digitally running from a HDD.

I finished the game, but I sometimes have the urge to go play in Lego City and just drive around and crash and have fun...but I never have because I really hate the load times. Just from typing this, the song that plays during loading has popped into my head. There goes my night :(

I expected Lego City load times from the title. 25-30 seconds isn't fast but people can live with it. How long are the levels, generally?

Cranky had to walk 10 hours through 8 feet of snow just to get Space Invaders at the local Mom & Pop shop and you guys are complaining about waiting 20 seconds to play a game in the comfort of your homes.

Doesn't bother me, since it's nowhere on the same level as Sonic 06 or the PS3 version of Bayonetta 1.

WiiTrapperKeeperJosh is really going out of his way to be negative about the game though as evidenced in his nonstop whining in several Tropical Freeze Youtube videos so this isn't surprising.

Why what has he been saying?

As someone already said, both games give actual control to the player at the same time. My guess is the wii game is masking loading in the initial shake controller segment.

Only the first level(?) has shake mechanic, the loading for the rest of the game is about the same amount of time. There is a lot more to these levels than in the original.

Load time looks to be about double of returns. A bit bad but not atrocious.

Whatever, I've accepted this fate when I decided to finish Metroid Prime 3 despite constantly being fucked in the ass by those doors.

Just gimme dat quality gameplay.

To the people downplaying this, I hope you enjoy staring at a loading screen more than actually playing the game while attempting the time trials lolololol

You know it to be true.

Why what has he been saying?

He just has a habit to go into every Youtube Tropical Freeze thread and in a contrived fashion nitpick on everything going on.

His most negative comment was along the lines of: The music in this game seems so timid and unremarkable and a step down from the music in Returns.

His most positive comment was along these lines: Why is the guy just running through the level as fast as he can and not enjoying the atmosphere and design?

Most of his comments have been about the poor music choices in the game.

As long as you don't have to reload the level every time you retry a time trial then I'm OK with it.

Loading times are pretty bad though, it's annoying in a game like this.

Maybe he edited the video to make it seem the loading was longer so he could make it seem bad?

Then we should see a comparison for the other levels too.

This sequel looks like it has what it takes to be better than the first game. I give it two dongs up despite the longer loading times.

This seems like an extremely weird complaint because I was under the impression the embargo only allows for three minute videos, and speeding through the level shows you as much of the stage as possible under that constraint.

Nope.
Most speed runs in original are around a minute(+) to complete. The levels in this game are longer than those in Returns.

Nah but it's clear what he is doing in this video, it fits his propaganda.

I mean, he keeps the gameplay running as if he was actually comparing the two games in general and his topic on the video is vague.

It basically reads: Tropical Freeze has shit loading times

And it arguably does but him complaining in every Youtube video of the game makes you wonder...

Yeah, that pretty obvious reason of common sense was lost on him I guess.

It was pointed out by several people in the comments.

Disappointing but hardly dealbreaking.

I wish they were faster but I don't find it Lego City offputting(don't think that's a dealbreaker either, maybe I am too patient).

..I think you're reading into things, possibly because of your own personal bias? He has the game (I'm assuming? Unless he's stealing other peoples footage), so he has better authority over you in terms of opinions on it, and, on a personal level, I just watched a few of his DKCRTF videos to see if what you're saying is true, and I didn't get that the impression of "going out of the way to be negative" and "whining" WHATSOEVER.

I'm going to go ahead and quote my own thread from last June where people laughed at me for bringing it up.

Donkey Kong Wii U Load Times (28 seconds for a level)

I was trying to look up some gameplay footage before deciding to pre-order. I happened upon this video:

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Level 1-1 (E3 2013)

The level starts loading at 42 seconds into the video. It finishes at 1:10. This is absurd. This is starting to become a recurring theme with the Wii U. Since when did it become okay to have half a minute of loading for a few minutes of gameplay?

Never seen an E3 demo before? It'll be nowhere near as long in the final game.

Joke thread?

ITT: People who think alphas are the final version of a game.

It is a demo ...

A demo of an incomplete game running on a dev kit takes a long time to load.. Nintendo doomed!

It's a demo for Christ's sake. Load times aren't optimized.

You can't be serious bro. It's an E3 demo?

This thread is exactly the kind of stupid shit that press does that explains why Nintendo refused to show Zelda WiiU this year.

And THIS is the reason devs are loathe to show off early builds...

IN FACT, this is the EXACT reason we are not given access to E3 demos more often...

I thought you were better than this, GAF.

Probably loads the whole level in RAM, anyway counted about 9 - 15 seconds, anyone who played PGR3 will laugh,

Still these loading times are okay by me. Can't wait for the game.

That's odd, Josh was really excited for the game when it was revealed, I wonder what happened. From what I've seen the game looks to be better than DKCR in every way (except loading times).

Filling 1GB of RAM from an optical disk takes a while, and not all engines manage memory the same way.

Would it be possible to load part of a level while playing the same level (in a way Starfox Adventures did) or is it not possible for a "fast" game like this?

I absolutely despise loading times, even the ones in Rayman Origins were annoying to me. I loved how fast most of Nintendo's Wii titles were loading.

You can have any impression you want but he sounds like a tryhard to me.

He doesn't have better authority over the music in the game as anyone, we all have ears.

Restarting levels is instant.

If that's the case then that's all that matters to me. The game will be hard so I'll probably die a lot. So as long as those load times are only for the initial load of each level, then no problems here.

No, but I also wouldn't say that somebody who has a different opinion of a game's soundtrack than me is "whining" or "going out of their way to be negative". Not everybody is going to love the soundtrack, and for all we know, maybe the soundtrack as a whole is a little underwhelming (unlikely, but who knows).

Loading times only bother me if the game itself isn't fun to play. I saw a couple Sonic 06 comments in the YT video, loading was NOT the biggest problem from that game, the loading just felt worse b/c that game played like crap. I might change my purchase from physical to digital though if enough reviews/previews prove the loading times are cut down enough.

Also, as others have pointed out, it's probably level by level, this one was much shorter (About 16 seconds compared to the 24 second one in that video)

He might actually really like the game but he never shows it.

Most of what I have seen is him nitpick the music.

Opinions are opinions but when everyone is gushing over David Wise(me personally, I am not a blind David Wise fanboy), he makes a point to take jabs at the music.

Genuine or not, he seems to like to create waves.

It's just my sense of him: just like an opinion, it's neither right nor wrong.

(however, liking the music in Returns and being in the minority in that regard, I guess you could say I strongly disagree that the music in that game is better than this game's---this soundtrack seems to add a ton more)

I wouldn't mind this if the game doesn't boot me back to the level select screen after a game over.

I usually play this with my girlfriend. Let's just say we saw a lot of Game Overs in DKCR.
