Xbox One Titanfall Special Edition Bundle announced. $499 at select retailers

I own both the PS4 and Xbox One, I had Battlefield 4 on XBOne, and was sorely disappointed at that shit show, and I'd heard rumbles of the bundle when it was 'leaked' a couple weeks ago.

But My point above still stands, Nintendo gave early adopters a 10% discount on digital download titles if you got the Deluxe sku, why does nothing similar exist for people who had enough forethought to get "Day One" editions, or otherwise? In reality the only benefit of that version is an achievement and an extra decal on your controller.

I'm bitter, sure, if this was more than 4 months post-launch, I'd be less upset, but it's just silly at how soon they 'ignore' those who 'helped' them not look even worse in the PS4's sales shadow.

That doesn't make any sense. Why are you expecting them to give you a present because you bought the system early? The "benefit" is that you got the system, that doesn't make you entitled to other stuff down the road, nor does it make any sense for you to expect to get anything extra.

If MS doesn't at least come close to PS4 numbers in March (<10k) the XB1 is in trouble.
GAF hyperbole in effect, as always.

Just because it isn't selling as well as the PS4 doesn't automatically mean that it's in trouble. If that were the case, it would signify that the market cannot support more than one console brand.

There is room for everyone to be successful, and whether or not you're in first place doesn't quantify what's successful and what's not.

That said... A price cut this early in, is shocking and certainly a sign of desperation from Microsoft. Competition is a great thing.

I managed to find an xbox one deal on craigslist for $480 which included 2 games an an extra controller brand new. Had I actually bought all of that retail id be pissed.

So only 4 months into the console's life, they are giving away the most-anticipated, hyped, and system-defining game for XboxOne?
Great for selling XboxOnes, no doubt. But doesn't that seem a little...desperate?

gotta clear out those warehouses somehow, I'm wonder if retailers are now shipping their stock back to MS to swap for this bundle now

But SEGA waited about a year, I think. (Too late? lol)

Um, you realize you just contradicted yourself right?

Calling it the "biggest game of the generation" is a bit hyperbolic. But whatever. They want to sell these consoles and I hope they do well.

It kinda is at this point, considering "the generation" is only about 90 days old. That is just really good PR, Microsoft is good at that. See "fastest selling console" and "Xbox*" for more examples.

Kinda sucks that Titanfall beta was the first time I used my Xbox One since December, and now they're offering it free to new purchases. Wonderful job, MS.

It almost always pays to wait. Early adopters rarely get the perks that patient people do.

If by "good" you mean terrible then yes, MS is "good" at PR.

Pretty good deal. Though places like Microcenter had the Xbox One for $450~ and Target had it for $499 + 50 gift card. Both of those situations you could likely pick up the game for cheaper, or get a different game if you didn't want titanfall. I wonder if a permanant $50 price drop is coming.

Only reason I bought an XBone on day one was that I was convinced we wouldn't be seeing a price drop for 2 years at least. Had I known this was coming I would've waited.
This this and this. I only bought this fucking machine because I knew if I bought it now, it would be the same price if I bought it two years from now. Now I'm getting shafted 60 bucks on a game I surely want to purchase but could have gotten for free if I waited just four months. That's extremely fucked up, MicroDicks.

I am mainly annoyed that they are offering a digital code with the bundle and I cannot find a place where I can preorder XBOX One Digital Copy of Titanfall. When it comes to a multiplayer game, I do not want stinking disc or box. I just want to fire the game up on my dashboard.

This is flawed logic for several reasons.

1. Those who bought it early have already played it and enjoyed it for months, while those buying it after the price drop are missing out on those months of enjoyment. What is that time worth? Is it worth $60-$70 bucks (ie $20/month)? I think most early adopters got $20/month enjoyment out of it, but for those who didn't...

2. Would you rather Microsoft stand pat and fall into a distant 2nd place situation where they would, inevitably, lose out on some games in the long run because it would become financially easier for Sony to secure 3rd party exclusives due to the large install base disparity and MS may abandon a failing system earlier. If you want the XB1 to have a healthy 5-7 year life, where you get the most bang for your buck long-term, then you want the XB1 to sell at least relatively close to the PS4. You should be happy that MS is being aggressive here and now. The alternative is... bleak (see Nintendo's response to WiiU's demise, which was basically doing nothing).

Hopefully the store page that went up last week was real about preloading the game on the Xbox One.

Damn good deal. Kinda wish the game would be disc based instead of ddl code but better than nothing.

I see this more as a desperate move to pad Titanfall sales on Xbox One. Unless your average consumer is an idiot - they know they can get the game on Xbox 360 or PC without paying the $500 entry fee. PC gamers have it even better since they don't have to pay for Gold.

My guess is preorders for Xbox One are not where they want them to be - hence this move and the U.K one. MS could care less how well Titanfall does overall, they want it to do gangbusters on the Xbox One so they can point to it as some killer app for the console.

I don't see this moving many consoles in March. It's still $500. That being said, they could still win March with the supply issues Sony is facing. But hey, stranger things have happened.

This. I can understand being upset though if you bought an XB1 in the last couple weeks, but even then there were $50 gift card deals available at several retailers.

MS needs to do whatever they have to to stay competitive at least in NA. If they can't get to price parity then game giveaways are pretty much the only option.

People making mountains out of molehills here. You aren't entitled to a free game just because you bought the system before this announcement. If you wanted something free with it or wanted it cheaper, why didn't you wait? You knew what you were getting into so whining about it makes you look silly.

Also, Titanfall will do just fine regardless. I have close to 100 preorders for the XB1 version alone at my tiny little store in the middle of nowhere. It'll do okay.

That's not happening.

It's happening.

Actually no it's not.

Only one insider to trust around here anymore and it ain't Cboat or Famous.

Acutally, Famous said that this would happen, and that there wouldn't be a special edition console. So he was right on the money, as usual. In my book, he has had the best track record of the insiders on this forum.

No idea how anyone at MS thought this was a good idea. The backlash is going to be huge from the early adopters. If the pressure builds enough, I wouldn't be shocked if MS felt compelled to offer discounts on digital copies of the game for those who already bought the system.

So I look silly for supporting Microsoft by purchasing the XB1 during the launch window, and then a few months later they are giving the game away for free with the purchase of a new console? Yeah, okay Apple. Whatever you say.

Absolutely. It comes with the territory with being an early adopter. You take the hardware failures, the high price, the bugs, the lack of features. You take all the problems while the rest of us who have patience wait for the first deal.

Tell that to all the Nintendo 3DS early adopters who got free games after the $80 price drop.

I'm curious, how many 360 preorders?

While this is basically a $60 price drop for those who were going to buy Titanfall anyway, won't it look weird when stores are selling an Xbox One without a game for the same price as one with a game?

I guess 90% of early adopters are getting Titanfall anyway though.

Good point. Sega waited way too long to do anything and look where it got them.

Reminds me that I bought a Saturn at launch and still didn't feel bad when they started with all the crazy free game deals. When you're an early adopter you take that chance.

So some of this stuff may have already been discussed, but here are my thoughts for this.

1) Microsoft Ambassador Club? Nintendo did this to take the sting off for its early adopters - could Microsoft offer an olive branch to its day-one buyers?

2) While not an official price cut, offering as a free pack-in what you had previously hyped as THE must-buy title for your just-launched system is a price cut. But will it be enough? It's STILL one hundred dollars more than its competition. If the XBone is losing to the PS4 because of price, a Titanfall bundle doesn't actually help XBone at all.

3) Does Microsoft really want to get into the pack-in game competition? Nintendo, dead in the water as it is, is already selling a Wii U with NSMBU and NSLU packed in for $300. How confident does Microsoft feel in putting their box next door on the shelf with Titanfall packed in for $500? I don't mean to compare the objective worth of those games or the systems by this - I strictly mean, if they're looking for the value buyer, how does this look to the casual uninformed consumer? I think Microsoft knows they're probably not getting too many of those sales at this price point anyway, and it may also be why they're saying this is a limited-time/exclusive-retailer offer.

I find the interesting part is that the copy of Titanfall is digital.

Probably was the only way they could get the bundle out in time for launch. But of all the titles to go digital on TitanFall seem like the perfect candidate. I don't really want to have to get up and change discs to jump into a match so I'm definitely getting it digital.

It's a good idea, they need to do something to push hardware sales. Respect for early adopters can't paralyze the business.

If they were offering this same bundle sans Kinect at $449 it would be a no-brainer.

At $499... shit, I dunno. Still a lot of cheddar for just one game, especially since I already have a PS4.

I do like that this bundle is using the standard hardware though. I absolutely loathe the cheesy branded shit.

Interesting.

It is a bit soon, admittedly, but I've also been enjoying my XB1 and my PS4 for months now. Had I waited for an XB1, I wouldn't have played it this whole time (and Killer Instinct is awesome).

Sooooooooooooo.....

People getting mad at this are funny and I snicker at them.

I sure regret getting an XBone at Launch now. :|

I would too if I had bought one. Fortunately I am still on the fence about buying the PS4 or xBox One.

I got in on the open beta for Titanfall on the PC version and its an enjoyable game, but still not enough for me to spend $500+tax.

They should have included the Titanfall controller as well. That would have been a little bit more interesting for me but others that have posted before are probably right, MS was probably avoiding a new sku.

Yeah, everyone saw this a mile away. Once it was made exclusive, it was gonna be a pack in.

You can expect more pack ins this fall. Microsoft will be bundling for sure. Maybe two games per console but I expect a variety of official bundle packages to cover the consumer range. I'd say Forza 5 is a safe bet.
