I hope he's telling the truth because posing as a ND employee just to shit on Corrine Yu seems like a waste of a gaf account.
"Maybe she is incompetent"? She is one person. It's interesting how reputations develop, she's been called things like 'the female Carmack' for years and years, I remember thinking it was strange so many people made a big deal about her going to the Halo team, considering she'd been at Gearbox, and they've never made a technically impressive game at all, and they didn't develop their own engine. Her adulation always seemed unwarranted, but Halo 4 was by far the most impressive game to run on the 360.
Maybe she is incompetent, but she's gained her reputation somehow, and Halo 4 certainly delivered.
She certainly took credit for those things. Ask the people who actually did those things and you will get a different answer.
This quote doesn't show up ANYWHERE with the source as Microsoft.
Try again.
A few weeks later, a Microsoft spokesperson issues a statement to IGN detailing and clarifying Yu's role in previous Halo projects:
While we consider Corrinne Yu a part of our founding family and cant wait to see where her talent takes her in her new role, we wanted to clarify a repeated misconception, most recently on an IGN podcast. Corrinne worked on a branch of our tools team and did not in fact work on either the Halo 4 or Halo 5 engine or graphics at all. Our current tools team will surely miss her enviable intellect, but we felt it fair to both her and 343 Industries to ensure that the nature of her contributions was not being misrepresented.
She is an experienced Studio Wide Director of Technology on Xbox 360, PS3, PC.
She is coding graphics on PS4. You can contact her on non PS4 business at *email*
She is one of the 10 Most Influential in Gaming in the Last Decade [source: Kotaku]
She is coding/coded at big and seminal companies like Microsoft, Apple, Sony, Intel, IBM, Apogee, 3D Realms, Learning Company, Sierra Oakhurst as Studio Wide Director of Technology and Lead Programmer.
She is SIGGRAPH Game Development Committee Member
She is Microsoft Graphics Advisory Board member.
She is Founding Member of Microsoft's First Graphics Advisory Board.
She is GDC WiG Best Programmer award winner.
She programmed Borderlands and Brothers In Arms for Xbox 360, PS3, PC.
Are we even sure he's from ND this person sounds like they could just have a grudge against Corrine for whatever reason.I hope he's telling the truth because posing as a ND employee just to shit on Corrine Yu seems like a waste of a gaf account.
I don't understand your point at all."Maybe she is incompetent"? She is one person.
A dev team is about 100+ employees big. You can be the smartest person in the world, but if the whole team is average/crap, your game won't look like the greatest thing ever.
The other programmer that came with Christophe… I remember, the same day Andy promoted Christophe, when I was in a meeting where Andy told him he was going to be number two in the company, and his salary more than doubled. It was night and day, because he was now a senior person at one of the best game companies in the country. That same day, we had to fire the other programmer for being utterly inept. Christophe said, ‘this is what’s great about America. I come here as a junior programmer and I’m a senior programmer.’ The other guy says, ‘this is what sucks about America. In France, I could never be fired!
MS is the one that reportedly filed that patent for her work, and she later received this

So, if she really didn't do shit at MS, as your quote tries to claim is the case, then why the hell would they credit her for that lighting technique?
I don't understand your point at all.
I wasn't suggesting she was incompetent, I was referencing the statement made by the supposed insider.
Personally, I think he's talking crap, but we'll see.
I remember thinking it was strange so many people made a big deal about her going to the Halo team, considering she'd been at Gearbox, and they've never made a technically impressive game at all
I've googled the quote and it only appears in three places, including GAF. You'd think this statement would be published at least with the major outlets.
we don't believe you, you need more people
Yes, I thought it was strange. I understand why someone at Gearbox might know she's a genius, but people on GAF certainly had no reason to be so bullish about it at the time I think. The reason for my post:
Which guy? I never heard this story until now. Would love to hear some details about this one.If she was really that imcompetent she would have been gone by now, like that Epic guy who was at ND for barely a month.
His point is that the quote Ezran posted is nowhere to be found in any of IGN's actual articles. It's only on a Wiki that gives no link to a source other than claiming that MS released that as a statement to IGN.

With Yu being allegedly incompetent, she's been in this industry for years and yet no-one has questioned her apparently questionable talent? I highly doubt it
Are we even sure he's from ND this person sounds like they could just have a grudge against Corrine for whatever reason.

How do you know he was incompetent? It seems he got his old job back as a senior graphics programmer.

A guy with 5 posts who isn't bish approved and everyone gets excited?
Do developers not test potential hires before hitting?

A lack of a 'Banned' is a tacit Bish approval.
But it's only a matter of time now.
Looks like Bish isn't online right now, so I wouldn't read into his silence just yet. Probably sleeping or something.A lack of a 'Banned' is a tacit Bish approval.

It's only been 90 minutes, and I've not seen a "please check your PM's" post.

Going off topic here, but don't be naive. Hiring mistakes happens all the time.
Some people simply don't mesh with how certain studios work. They get a job offer, take up on it an realise after working a few weeks there that either the studio culture is not something you can work in, or the way their production pipeline is set up is stressing you out. In the end it's about you and enjoying a healthy life and does not mean the guy is incompetent.
"Statement"
HALO 4 credits
eh? Corinne (who is amazeballs, btw) worked with our tools team. She didn't work on the engine for Halo 4 or 5. Our engine and engineering team is led by the equally talented and beautiful Dave Berger, who has been in charge since 343 started.
what? you think he's a controlled leak from ms?Could be another ntkrnl in the making?
Good point. Anyone with a Twitter account want to ask Jared about his source?Looking through the Wiki history, it seems like this was added to the wiki page by IGN's Jared Petty two months ago. Maybe someone can message him on IGN (http://people.ign.com/jaredpetty-ign) or Twitter (@pettycommajared) and ask for more details on that source?
LoL

I don't know of that quotes' authenticity, but it is consistent with something I've heard Frank O'Conner (Stinkles) say here on GAF

So you think when hiring someone as high profile as Yu ( who this junior wants us to believe sucks at her job) ND hadn't spoken to people from any one of the top tier companies she had worked at or heard how (allegedly) awful she is at her job through the grapevine at coms/dev days/ expo's etc ?
So they hired her because she was "that hot rocket scientist dev" of internet fame ?
K
Sure they do, but he is saying that several company hiring processes failed and that this person has a forged curriculum claiming work it's not hers to begin with. Even if Corrine Yu left ND today I would think that team/company cultural incompatibilities or inadaptation would be the prime reasons other than false curriculum. This claim is a throwaway account from a malicious source until proven otherwise.
I know nothing of Corrinne Yu or MS/ND's hiring process.
For that reason, I am not qualified or interested in making a comment on those specific matters.
That said, I was simply making an off topic comment about how "hiring processes at any big company are in place to ensure that employees have adequate capabilities to the position" is a ridiculous statement from my perspective. I will stand by that off-topic comment and please feel free to ask about my personal experiences with hiring mistakes if necessary.
K?
This sums it up.While I want to believe everything is cool over at Naughty Dog, after the blow up with Irrational I find it hard to trust anything anyone in the AAA gaming industry says on the record.
