Infamous: Second Son Review Thread

These scores seem fine. Looks to be a fun game, I've been kind of avoiding a lot of coverage so I can go in pretty fresh. The scores could be worse. Now just waiting for amazon to get my copy to me.

Yea the game was not that great neither was 2.

My biggest problem with Infamous 1 and 2 was the graphics and most importantly the image quality was so jarring and ugly that it distracted me the entire game.

See, I think the games are great, but Infamous 1 took way too long to make you actually feel superpowered.

Plays like infamous, looks like infamous, sounds like infamous and reviews like infamous? I'm glad then.
Definitely picking this up as my first ps4 title.

Hey people, play high "low" rated games. High rated ones tend to be to homogenous and, in some sense, innoffensive. High low rated games tend to have intriguing ideas which are different and forge the game's own identity, while that might bring a feew missteps it leaves an impression. It's more than could be said about the Assassins Creeds of today.

Pretty much. Infamous has always been a love it or hate it series. Though this time it has potential to sell more then the other two.

Games should be held at a high standard. I don't want to see 9's and 10's thrown out there like its nothing. The reviews are good and in line with what I expected.

Shouldn't they already be shipping by now? Waiting for my Amazon copy as well...

Yeah, but it's the lowest average score in the series, despite most reviewers agreeing it's the best game from said series. What sense does that make?

The sense that Infamous 2 came out almost three years ago and that video games standards are a rolling start? And it's a variation of a few points(EDIT: as of right now), if it was like a ten point gap or more I could understand the frustration.

I'm not really disappointed, as I didn't really care enough about this franchise to have an expectation. I played the first game, didn't really like it, and the reviews from this game read as more of the same. I was secretly hoping that the reviews would be like 10/10 PLAY THIS EVEN IF YOU HATE INFAMOUS! type of a deal, but they are not. So no big loss, pass for me, hopefully the fans of the franchise enjoy this game.

If Infamous 1 and 2 were released today, they would get worse scores in comparison to what they got during the time they were actually released.

Very disappointing. I thought this would be the first game to score consistent 9s but I guess not. I'm glad reviewers aren't giving out high scores like candy but I am very disappointed in developers (and in this case Sony) for not being able to produce a good game for this new generation yet. This is the 3rd game from Sony to disappoint. I will continue waiting for a true killer app before diving into next gen.

exactly. The medium has progressed a lot since those games were released, more is expected from modern releases.

Oh games released in 2009 and 2011 wouldn't do as well in 2014 in the midst of new hardware?

ISS looks very, very different from the first two. The framework is there, but until all of us play it, it's a bit premature to say its the same thing and deserves a low score.

I was sold on this game based on the graphics alone. Best looking game I have ever seen in a long time. I have played and completed the other 2 and cannot wait to get a PS4 to get my hands on this. Just beautiful looking game.

A 81 is not a average of a bad game.

Based on averages
50 mediocre
60 ok
70 good
80 great
90 amazing

...Your post history does not lend much confidence in the sincerity of you opinion.

How is an 81 metacritic not a good game?

Just bought it digitally.

There's no way I can wait until I find a disc copy here in Brazil. =/

BTW, so many bans. I counted 5 in this thread.
People never learn.

Yeah I expected this game to get mid range 8 scores across the board. It's a great fucking game, just a little short on length on content. Best ps4 game so far.

I am not sure what folks were expecting from an Infamous game. They never were amazing, always just solid games.

Sorry if I quote you, but post like this are pretty "strange".
In the meanwhile I'm enjoying every game from "Sony" ... and you ?
You are just starring some numbers.

Anyone know if GameStop is doing midnight launch?

I don't want to Waite till tomorrow Dammit!!!!

It varies by location, I think. Some in the OT said their local GS is, others aren't.

edit: Go to GameStop's website, at the bottom left of the page there's an events link. Go there and Second Son midnight launch is there to check.

It's the lowest of the Infamous games which to begin with weren't exactly the greatest. Sony used to release games that would get consistent 9s across the boards and it seems that with this gen they got lax (knack and KZ also got disappointing scores remember?). I was hoping they would release at least one true classic in the first year but it doesn't look likely :/

What drives me insane about these opinions are

a) It's not a low scoring game. It's good.
b) It's not a PERFECTLY scoring game, however, because it just simply does not differentiate itself enough from its predecessors (amongst other reasons).

I really don't see what is controversial enough about the reviews for this game to justify all the wailing. I've read a substantial chunk of this thread, and I'm still mystified. I think the game scored exactly to expectations, with review verbiage to match.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Do the Destructoid, Polygon, Rev3, Giant Bomb or Gamesradar reviews contain even the most vague spoilers? New characters, powers, areas, etc? I've been on blackout but I always read their reviews, the fact that I'm asking should be enough to show how scared I am. If they do, or I sound ridiculous, I'll just wait until midnight where I can start downloading it and play it for myself, having it pre-ordered all all, y'know.

Looks like "Lack of innovation" hit inFamous hard, again. Which I've never agreed with because of the inherent hypocrisy that that creates with other games. And it completely ignores the viewpoint of someone who has never played a game in said series before, which I personally think most reviews should be aimed at. I knew this was going to happen but I had inFamous pegged at a straight 85 regardless.

Oh dang. after reading the wide range of reviews I am now in this weird limbo where the game seems to be good enough that I want it, but not so good that I feel ok dropping $60 on it. I hate when games get 80s lol.

Except, basically everyone here that got it early agrees it's the best Infamous title to date. The fact that it's a lower metacritic than the previous titles doesn't change the fact that it's a good game.

I don't get it either. None of the reviews struck me as horribly offensive. I think the reality is that most of us wouldn't buy a game solely on reviews. The general, casual gaming public however might. So reviews that might be slightly misleading (e.g., what is "next-gen gameplay" anyways? VR?) get attacked. When people have money invested in a system, they do have reason to want the games to be mega-successful.

Again, unless you've played the game, you should still probably shut up. Until I get my copy, I certainly don't feel qualified to really attack any reviewers.
