GBA VC on Wii U starting April 3rd

Super Mario World still looks like crap though. You're not going to do well with a game that whose graphics were put in a filter while a lot of other games had art made from scratch with screen darkening in mind, and I think it's a terrible example of a point being made.

I know, that's part of why I posted! Each game is different and shouldn't have the same technique applied across all games, especially when they simply lowering the brightess.

Edit: I'll mention again that my core problem with this filter is that it is poorly implemented, causing colours that should be bright regardless of screen/system to become dull. Whites become grey, etc.

Eh, I am fine with every game being darkened if it means the majority of GBA games look better. SMW GBA just doesn't look as great as the SNES version, emulated or otherwise because the graphics just weren't designed for the platform.

This is true, but then viewed raw, darker colors tend to be too light (unless it's #000000 black which some games do), midtones tend to be highly saturated. I take it as a trade off without heavy contrast adjustment.

I sucked six dicks to get this tag.
I'd challenge the "wonderfully" part

Technically all the games from my gba worked fine on my PSP no problems with no auto frameskip either. Just gotta find the right unofficial gpsp kai instead of basic gpsp 0.9. They'll will always be certain problems with certain games tho. Megaman Zero 3 runs like straight trash in the newer kai builds for some reason and a bunch of artifacts come outta nowhere during gameplay.

Runs fine in the oldass gpsp tho for some reason.

I really hope they keep a steady flow of titles coming. The GBA has an incredibly library, but Nintendo's hasn't been handling the Virtual Console well so far.

Yeah, it'd do so much better on the 3DS. Because REASONS.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but has anyone considered that VC hasn't been a success on 3DS, even compared to Wii U (which would say a lot)?

No, of course not, GAF's opinions on what companies should do are ALWAYS sales-generating goldmines of opportunity. [/snark]
It make more sense on the 3DS because these are portable games built to be played on the go. Not tethered to a console that you cant drag it's amazing screen on controller outside a room.

Do you have any proof that it's been a sales failure?

Price isn't the only issue with the 3DS VC, the line up and release calendar is poor. They don't drum any excitement with it. That's on them.

Those statements are often repeated ad nauseum by the same posters in every thread on the subject, even if the reason has been explained to them multiple times over. Some aren't even drive-by posters.

So to state it for your benefit: those issues occur often BECAUSE of how they look for near-perfect code execution accuracy, not because of some flawed execution.

I've highlighted why you're confused, you essentially answered your own question.

huh?
that's not true at all.
would well enough be a better answer? I've used it and it works great for me

To be honest that's actually a great April lineup. Imagine if every month looked like that.

Of course, it's NOE. What's the news on NOA?

Don't the games look even darker than they did on OG GBA? I'll pop Superstar Saga when I'm home, but even with GBA's terrible screen I can't remember it looking that dim.

First of all, it's content. What it was designed on doesn't matter much. I mean, after all, if that were true, we'd never see handheld versions of console games EVER sell well. So the argument is silly on its premise.

I'd say that the complete 3rd-party absence from 3DS Virtual Console is a pretty strong sign of poor sales. After all, what is it I keep being told...? "3rd parties don't release games where they can't make money"? I'd say that applies here, most definitely. And I'd say it's less speculative than some of the statements made on this subject.

£6.30 is a bit steep, considering the sort of games you can get for that price on XBLA, PSN, or Steam. Which are in HD, have online etc.

Wow, online? That's worth the money alone. Who cares about the quality of the games.

A good game is a good game. And the release list from NOE is jam packed full of amazing games.

Is it just me, or do the games look a lot more vibrant in these new North American trailers? They've got me really curious to see how they actually look on the TV/GamePad.

(Forgive me if this has been posted already -- we've got a few GBA Virtual Console threads going around, but I haven't caught these on GAF yet.)

Those definitely look a lot brighter based on the AW and Yoshi trailers I watched. Unless my eyes are going crazy :p

F-Zero love. Nice to see for fans of that series.

Interesting that Aria of Sorrow was rated first. Great game, and possibly the best of the handheld CVs. That said, I wonder if Konami is just skipping VC versions of Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance, or if we'll actually see them eventually.

A couple more GBA games have been rated by the Australian classification board, so may be heading to GBA VC:

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

F-Zero: GP Legend

Nintendo Everything pointed out that this would be the first release for both titles in Australia. It's also worth noting that the Japanese version of GP Legend had e-Reader support, though I'm 99.99% sure that content will not make it to the VC release.

Aria of Sorrow is easily a top GBA game I was hoping would be released on VC.

Never mind the "absolute perfection" arguments. Nintendo needs to release GBA games on 3DS through the DS's GBA mode.

It's utterly ridiculous to exclusively have GBA games on their home console.

So many good memories from these games, I really wanna play Golden Sun and Metroid Fusion again.

Quick question, are purchases on a Wii U account bound or system bound? I don't have a Wii U yet (Bayonetta 2) but a roommate has and I created a account on his console, would I be able to buy a game on his system then later download it on my own when I get one?

The pdf is 5 MB, GBA games max at like 32MB so that's like 37MB. Where'd the other 163 MB come from?
The European manuals were the best part of 100 pages as they came with many more languages. PDF reader is my guess. Then again they could be TIFF or something on the Wii U.

Surprised that they're skipping over Circle of the Moon
Could it be due to some sorts of rights or other issues. I mean the GBA compilation cart also omitted it.

Both. You can't the NNID account off the system it is made on (meaning not only do you have to rebuy the game you also have to play all the games again). Its basically the same crap as before only with something to log into to make you think it is progress. They have said there will be a website where you can deactivate accounts from systems in the future but much like that website purchasing eShop games from the web idea I imagine it'll vanish into thin air.

I hate rights issues. Good games being skipped over because of them is a travesty. I hope that's not the reason and CotM eventually makes it.

CotM isn't as near-perfect as Aria but it's a really refreshing Castlevania experience because of how it plays and because of the castle design and scale.

Damnit, so basically my only option right now is to contact Nintendo and ask them to delete my account entirely so I can recreate it on the new console? Which is most likely not possible at all due to some odd rule.

I mean, it's cool that they're adding to their VC list, but it's pretty obnoxious of them to not bring these to 3DS. I mean, I have the 10 ambassador games and they run flawlessly, so it's pretty obvious the 3DS is more than capable of playing gba games with no problems. i'm glad i have those, but it's a pretty big fuck you to those who didn't buy the 3ds early.

But still SNES games were about 20-30 MB, 200 MB seems like quite a big jump.

What, I think you mean Megabit. Not Megabyte.

Link to the Past for example was 1 MB.

Nintendo needs to release GBA games on 3DS through the DS's GBA mode.

Nintendo does that and next week's thread is: "Fuck Nintendo, shit doesn't work. Why isn't the 3DS OS active, when I play GBA games? It doesn't pause the game, doesn't do anything. It's almost as if the hardware was clocked down and none of the 3DS features are active. It's crap. I want my money back. Nintendo is so backwards. Nintendo: Please understand. They totally half-assed it just like the ambassador titles, but now they want money for it. Nintendo sucks etc. pp"

That's a nice line up but my biggest fear that Nintendo will start using the drip drip method and we will be left waiting for more titles to get released.
