Sorry if this has been hashed out, but has anyone explained why Big Boss is back to being called Snake?

I loved the PW scene where he ditches the headband.

Doesn't seem like it. There's even new recorded dialogue of Paz reporting on the "Call me Big Boss" scene to Cipher, so Kojima remembers. It's weird.

This bugs me since in PW post-credits Snake actually abandons his codename and fully adopts "Big Boss"

It's funny, while playing these prequel games Im always asking in the back of my mind. "Is he evil yet?" "Are we there yet?".
I thought MGS3 was enough to make him Big Boss, but then PO happened and he was supposed to turn evil then, but then Peace Walker happened and he was supposed to be evil then.. LOL Im just kidding, I actually enjoy the slow progression.

He punches a kitten's throat until it dies in the mid credits sequence of Ground Zeroes, so I'd say that the transformation is complete, and Big Boss is now certainly evil.

Chico is not a kid, I think he's close to adulthood, but due to malnutruition he couldn't grow up a lot, that's why he's called chico and his stature is close to that of a boy...Quiet dosn't seem to be as short as chico.

How come someone can came up with that crazy explanations and don't realize about the simple things?

Latinos are often pretty short so you may have something there. Quiet's boots do seem to give him a heigh boost though.

Portable ops is barely canon at this point. Pretty sure even kojima has came out and said he thinks of it more as a spin off than a main mgs game. Plus, given how retcon heavy kojima can be with games he actually wrote and directed, i'd say that shooting something down on the basis it might be canon because a game that basically isn't even canon anymore is kinda silly. I mean ffs the game isn't mentioned anywhere in the legacy collection artbook, was referred to as crap that you should forget about in peace walker, is missing from the series main website's list of metal gear titles, and is basically considered a spin-off by the man who both writes and directs the games.

This is how spin-offs are treated in many franchises and yet they're still canon. Just non-essential.

That's quite a common theory I think and one that makes the most sense. It would explain how Liquid knew Miller, it would perhaps explain some of his ramblings about the middle east, and his necklace even has what appear to be dog teeth of some kind, perhaps from a jackal which he mentioned hunting as well.

This was taken from the Metal Gear wiki so I'm not sure how factual it is.

Shinkawa has stated Liquid actually isn't blonde, but dark haired like his brother; apparently, his hair was bleached blonde by the sun during his time in the Middle East. Yes, this wouldn't work, but hey.

It's kinda like the SW prequels, where Lucas seemed to drag his feet on making his favorite protagonist actually flat-out evil until the last possible second.

That would be amazing, so long as it followed the MGS tradition of letting you tranquilize them or knock them out instead. Leave it up to the player.

Why would Big Boss kill kids though? Considering he was taking care of a lot of child soldiers back then when he was a full on big bad.
