Adam Sessler leaves Rev3 Games, starts consultancy firm

I recently unsubbed from Rev3 as I realized their coverage just wasn't for me.

Their lack of classic game knowledge and PC game coverage coupled with their lowest common denominator focus just frustrated me at times. I just can't respect coverage from people who seem to have so little experience.

The dude's 40. I guess he hit that magical age where being known for playing and criticising games was too much.

It's a shame. I owe him, Victor Lucas and Tommy Tallarico for getting me interested in the critical aspect of the games industry in the first place.

Same here

THis is what happens when you don't give someone a free ps4 on time.

Will be interesting to see where he lands up

I only watched a few live interviews with him like when the whole youtubers losing their video thing. Guy was horrible as a moderator. I'm sure his reviews and ramblings of the week's news were better though.

Oh well, Rev 3 had a good run.

Regardless of your opinions on Adam's perspectives he was a bonafide personality and I really don't see Tara, Scott, Carboni being able to carry the channel as the frontman and continually building an audience.

What I would like to see is Adam and Garnett team up on some basis and put out a regular pod/vid cast. Those 2 have really good complementary perspectives and both are able to articulate their feelings on the medium as an art and business as well as anyone out there.

Godspeed, Sess

That almost describes Sessler, honestly. I remember reading someone from GameSpot saying that when Sessler first started working there, he didn't even know how to hold a controller. Video games are not and have never been his primary interest.

That's true. Sessler graduated UCLA with a degree in English and worked for Public Access TV for a while, before going to ZDTV and starting GameSpot TV in 98. He admitted he wasn't much of a gamer before that.

I know Americans have some weird stiffy for this guy but he really showed his true colors this past year...

hearing language like this levelled against a person who merely has a differing opinion about ultimately trivial things is amusing.

you would think he murdered children or something.

Lost a lot of professional respect for the guy last year over some of things he said but I hope he succeeds where ever he goes.

I love internet rabbit hole but dam, rev3 with out seesler,,whats the point.

Sessler, Beers and Pachter make combo show pls

I'm not surprised by this. Over the past few months he seemed to be really put off by internet gaming culture. I've always liked him & I wish him the best where ever he ends up.

I'm born and raised in the U.S. and I've never gotten the appeal of him even back in his X-Play days. I've disagreed with several reviews/commentaries he's done on games and his speaking patterns were very hard for me to listen to.

There may have been a few times when I've agreed with him on something but lately he's been pretty far out there in his opinions.

I honestly felt that he would stop being front-facing in games media after his few meltdowns last year. I guess him doing something else entirely is the way to offload a lot of that stress.

I hope he enjoys what he does now and especially gets less stress.

No, but if I had to guess, it had to do with that particularly heavy push on Youtube footage that went down a few months ago and how future online video hosting policies were going to change.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
He goes out on a career low-note unfortunately.

Barely managed a year with that devkit PS4 he simply had to have too. Sony should ask for it back.

He wanted a PS4 like around 2 weeks before launch so Rev3 could do a proper series of video reviews for the system and game. Instead he was told that the earliest access they would get was at the NYC media review weekend held 4 days before the official launch.

A reasonable request i suppose, but every outlet (except IGN i think who had exclusive access) was given the same treatment (i.e. - a free weekend trip to NYC)

Well that genuinely sucks.. gonna miss the interviews and opinion pieces, some of the best in the industry imo. All the best to him though.

He is going to work his way from the bottom all the way to the top ranking EVO fighters, all while giving live commentary on his own match. He will be redeemed. FGC don't know what's comin.

I know he was getting a lot of flak recently but he was my favorite reviewer in the industry. I'll miss him.
One of my favorites too even when I vehemently disagreed with him. He seems like he'd be great company to just hang out and discuss things with. Hope he finds something interesting.

I should be sad, but I'm not. After backtracking on his 1080p comments, bitching about a trophy being sexist, and crying on twitter about Sony not sending him a debug PS4. I've lost a lot of respect for the man.

Agreed. He start off strong and then fizzled out. I think his heart's not into it anymore.

I can't be the only one who thinks "traditional" gaming media is dying on its arse.

Can't blame him for wanting to venture off to new career avenues.

Could see him just starting his own youtube channel, or going to Polygon who has money but abysmal video content.

Oh well. Maybe for the best since it seemed like he was the only one in all the previews, review and interview videos.

What i really dont like about rev3 is that they are just so damn condescending in so many videos. Its always like "LOL JRPGS" "LOL SHOOTER FANS"

I think Tara Long is awesome. I hope she and Carboni carry the channel forward- I'll miss Sessler but this was a strange year watching him. He said somethings that were really off-putting and the "threatening my livelihood" drama felt heavy.

I hope he continues to talk about games and does great work!

Bummer, especially that it's going to be an off-camera job. I wish him the best of luck, maybe he'll do a podcast sometime.

I know Americans have some weird stiffy for this guy but he really showed his true colors this past year...

The only people showing their true colors are a bunch of Sony bronies really

Didn't he start off without having a particular interest in video games, just kind of got pulled into it after he got his initial gig at whatever station it was back then?
