Sure, but until anything actually changes it's all just hot air.
Phil comes off as a likeable enough guy, but I'll be judging him by his actions, not his words. E3 is his first big chance to show me a different MS than the shitshow of the past 15 months.

This is finally working for me. That was a PR interview, but even so - I believe they want to turn it around. And Spencer came off as massively genuine, despite sounding like a cardboard cutout. He's handsome, just nowhere near charismatic. But yeah, genuine which is what matters to me.

I loved Phil's outlook on E3. Games, games, games, just like last year.
Last year everybody wanted to know what the hell was going on with the Xbox in terms of used games and always-online and justifiably so - but the template at work on stage was still a solid one, if not the best I've seen yet. Keep it moving, keep it focused on games.

And I bet they will. They've reacted pretty damn quickly so far. I'm waiting for E3 to pick up either box. I'm hopeful that the PS4 has better games just because of the more powerful hardware hahahahaha, but still if phil shows off some great stuff then it's xbox for me.

Since the 180 I reckon xbox has been solid - definitely not a shit show. Bloody good games line up, constant OS updates, what's not to like? Only negative Imo has been the delayed tier 2 roll out. What am i missing that makes it a shitshow?

Yeah its interesting that he mentioned this issue specifically. I think we'll definitely be seeing a price drop at E3. The question is how low will they'll go and will they take out the Kinect to get there?

Microtransactions in all launch titles and Resolutiongate made for a nice long running shitshow. I think we've finally gotten to the point where 900p is assumed to be the standard for Xbone games and Forza has had some pretty big changes to its in-game economy as recently as this past week.
There's still plenty of work to be done yet, but I think MS has already hit bottom, which is a good thing. I guess there's still risk in any of their TV, TV, TV efforts we haven't heard much about, and the downgrades I'd expect for something like Quantum Break's visuals. But even that stuff will seem like smaller news than what has come before.

I truly hope this marks a new era for Xbox. We are barely in the first year of this new generation so nothing is written in stone yet. Phil Spencer is a smart dude and I hope he makes some big changes.
Well, we're guaranteed to hear some TV stuff. Remember Quantum Break is supposed to be tied to TV style stuff. Then there's the Halo TV show, etc. So we're not done with TV. Not by a long show.
But as long as games is the focus, we're good.

I have been and will stay a PlayStation guy through and through. Didn't like Xbox in terms of their money balling and arrogance. But boy, ever since Satya is in charge this is like a new Microsoft. So much good stuff happning. So much openness out of a sudden. Just through the last days at Build they have announced so many open source inatiatives and have given so much insight into their plans for the future, like never before.
Now they put the only guy at Xbox who has a clue in charge of the entire Xbox division. I say BRAVO. They are getting their shit together it seems.

I'll say it again, Satya Nadella is the best thing to happen to Microsoft in the last five years, easy.
Ehh, I mean, pretty much anybody with a school email address can apply, or somebody who has their email payed by their parents or something, so you're bound to get some people that may not have quite the posting quality of others. Some not even close. That's what the whole Junior thing is for, to encourage people to not take their posting lightly so they can become full members of the forum, as well as to weed off some of the trolls and things.
Doesn't stop us from getting some pretty bad posts. I've made a few I'm pretty ashamed of. Just how it goes. NeoGAF's baseline posting is still leagues above many other forums though, especially due to it's policies.

True, true. There are plenty of gifs with Balmer in it floating around the net. I really liked that he wasn't afraid to be different on stage/in public, even if that wasn't always the best move.

He actually plays games. A lot even. Several gaffers who "follow" him on Xbox One activity say he's on there quite a bit.

No, there was like some sort of separate thing. I didn't really understand how it works. You'd have to look it up. I think they talked about it at the One's reveal.

I enjoyed the interview. I appreciate the honesty about mistakes being made. The core focus should always be about the games. I went into this generation with an XBOX in mind but after the DRM garbage switched to a PS4. I have no intention of purchasing an XBOX but if they can truly show me at E3 that the XBOX One is a game machine first. I would reconsider.

Yeah, isn't it supposed to be a TV show that plays out in different ways depending upon the player's choices in the game parts?
I don't have a full understanding of it either, but even the reveal was a mix of insane game visuals and live action bits. And then again Sam Lake described it as a straight up shooter, so who knows?

I like things. Just nothing MS has done in the last ~5 years.
I hate to keep bringing this up... Major Nelson started doing his thing out of his own choice while working on other things at MS. He wasn't given the job, he made the job.
