Any chance of an explanation why this is the case for those of us who aren't fluent? All I can find for manashi is "gapless" so presumably there's some nuance I'm missing here.
"Man" is usually a shortened form of "manko" and "ashi" sounding like feet/legs. Two things that are where panties are, and what Yuki is interested in drawing.

The File of Young Kindaichi Returns - Episode 2

Lots of development in this episode. Seems like
Chi died in this one, and the weird looking gray coat guy
. I'm gonna take a guess and say that
the waiter is the killer. He's the only one that hasn't had much involvement in the case, and it's usually always people like him.

On a side note, isn't it weird that they're letting a high schooler solve
murder
cases? If this was real, that boy wouldn't even be able to have a word on the case. Let alone tracking people down, famous grandfather or not. At least in Detective Conan, Conan did it secretly so it could make sense. Kindaichi is all over the place on the case, and everyone just shrugs at it. Which I find weird. While it's hard to take a high school student helping out the detective seriously, its still entertaining.

Reading through some of the links Jexhius posted motivated me to try watching something again, but with the intent of understanding what kind of message the framing and imagery might have tried to convey. Keep in mind that I'm going into this with the intent of overanalyzing (because how else will you learn?), so if some things seem like a stretch, it's on purpose :D. I'm not very astute, but let's see how this goes...

Edit: Sorry for the huge post. I'll condense it when I have time.

Actually, I'll just put it here:
http://pastebin.com/jexvM0tN

Post preview it if you want to read it.
You should post a portion of it in the OT, with the link to the picture so people could click it without getting distracted by. Anyway, good job.

As for the analysis itself, everything looks to be pretty much on point. I was actually planning to do a write up on this episode with a similar focus but you've pretty much covered all the major points re: framing and the episode itself was clearly about outsiders/the group as well 'distance' (in the emotional sense). As you can see, the visual storytelling in the episode is very clear in terms of the way the frames tell the story.

There's just a couple of points I can add:
That's a very good analysis, something that I don't realized it myself! Maybe it was the reason why episode 2 feels substantially better than the first, where both don't have the actual appearing mushi as the focus of the story. I should look into this thing.
The mushi aren't really separated though as they connect with that warning song. I guess they're supposed to be analogous/an ideal to Sakichi in that while he's isolated, he's still part of a community and can still help. The mushishi
took away the daughter's ability to speak, similar to how Sakichi silenced her by restricting her movement and freedom
.

Mushi and Mushishi are both very different thing though :p

I don't know why I feel China is the better waifu. She wasn't tsundere and was really sweet. Plus I KnK'd and chicks with glasses work for me b-

*knock on door*

SHIT IT'S THE COPS.

Also based on what you guys think I like, should I give a try to Non Non Biyori? It was heavily watched last season but it looks to be girls doing jack shit but they're moe the anime. That works for me if there's a bit of romance, but just that I don't know.

i call this the "bearguy 3 effect"

It doesn't matter in the end since
both got sei mom approval

also Non non Biyori is a simple anime that works in every sense of the word

I know it's generic but I keep coming back each week, it's SAO all over again for me.

What do you expect its a LN. LN arent supposed to be heavy literature which is why their called light novels, their just for plain fun reading. I mean if anybody is looking for first rate writing then read some classic literature, one of my favorites would be Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. Just expressing my opinion no harm.

Love Live! (S2) 02

Once again, a thoroughly enjoyable show. The flow of scenes is fantastic, the way the editing intercuts between the three groups as they try to figure out exactly what they want to do with the Love Live's new rules. ("Lantis says you can't have any songs that are old.") The interplay and watching the characters bounce off each other is in top form. Whether it's Nico and Maki or Nico and the squirrel. Love the new ED for the new season, too. Training camp episodes are plentiful (I watched anther one from Fairy Tail's OVAs just before), but this one remained unified in its goals and vision. Love Live is second only to GochiUsa for me this season.

I always wondered why they are called "light", the Mahouka ones are in between 300-500pgs (v4 at 490pg)...if I remember right.

Love Live Season 2: 02

Training camps and baths. We're in full swing now! Hopefully in an episode or two we'll have our first new song.

I will happier if stuff like SAO or Mahouka just focusing to the chuunibyou and the JRPG reject plot, I don't mind the OP protag and amateur writing.. instead they throwing sexual harassment and incest left and right,

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon is considered light novel vol.1 is 1300 pages.

so yeah, i agree with Dakkumauji definition

It's more of a classification that somehow stuck I believe.

They are basically the Japanese version of Young Adult novels.

Indeed; they also have illustrations, which normal novels do not.

Light novels can run the gamut of genres - historical fantasy like Saiunkoku Monogatari or Twelve Kingdoms, horror like Boogiepop Phantom, bittersweet vignettes like Kino's Journey... nowadays, of course, they are synonymous with wish fulfilment stories.

(this leads me to note that Fuyumi Ono's latest novel, The Lingering Pollution, apparently won some big literary prize last year! If she's not going to finish Twelve Kingdoms at least she's continuing to be successful as a "grown up" horror writer. I didn't know she was married to the author of Another!)

I'll admit Mahouka does have some incest vibes though it isnt incest and not to the extreme like Oreimo does, but the thing is unlike other LN that have lots of ecchiness Mahouka doesn't focus on that its more politics later on in the novels, so I can understand what you mean if thats how you feel.

Date A Live II: 01

One episode in and we already get to witness Shidou's balls of steel. Best harem Protagonist.

Looks like we also have actual villains this time, too. Should be a fun 10 episodes or however long this will be.

Bad light novels get otaku pandering anime adaptations.
Good light novels get superior j-drama adaptations for normal people.
Since zeroshiki is busy, this is where I suppose I channel him and say that this adaptation is shit. lol

"Light novel" is whatever a publisher says is one. It has no real meaning.
Real novels typically don't have cartoon drawings of waifus in them though.

I don't mind ecchii, I like my doze of tits and ass.. verbal context more annoy me than anything, like rapist villain or sister that want the D so bad.

lol j-drama.

I'd rather watch Mexican soap operas based off LN's

"Pero Makari-kun! Esos dos son tus hijos!"

"NO ME MIENTAS SENPAI-KUN! NO EN FRENTE DE MIS OTROS HIJOS!"
You know, I'd be curious to see "real" Latin American television. I mean, if Alfonso Cuaron can grow up and learn filmmaking in Mexico, I have to imagine that they have good looking stuff on TV to go with the telenovellas. lol

Don't shoot the messenger!

They have much fancier drawings.
Only on the cover though!

South American TV largely revolves around news, telenovelas (which admittedly have evolved to good drama tv series at times), reality shows ala Survivor and Big Brother, music shows, subtitled US dramas/shows, and spanish dubbing of shows. Whenever I go to visit family my safe haven is channels like FOX and Sony Entertainment TV since it's mainly US tv.

So you're saying Haganai is a good light novel?
Movies don't count!

I bet there's a True Dick Brazil or something. lol

I mean there's a hispanic version of Breaking Bad called Metastasis or some shit. So maybe one day they'll make it. They go to gloomy noir streets of Brazil and ask the bikini vendors for information.

Little Tortilla Boy.
With the demographics the way they are, I assume HBO will start airing Spanish language stuff eventually or just risk being irrelevant anyway. That'll probably give a boost to productions in parts of Latin America anyway.

Pretty sure there's an HBO Latino. I think it's an option when you watch HBO Go. Haven't used HBO Go since I'm waiting for PS4 version before I watch Game of Thrones and True Detective.
