Looks like all digital PSP / PSone games work on Vita now [Not Anymore]

everyone who is calling sony stupid and shitty
do you honestly think they're just blocking you from playing these games for some fucking arbitrary reason?
i think its safe to say they would ABSOLUTELY sell you all these games if they could.
get mad at the publishers who own the rights to these games for not licensing them for vita

Most people blame them for their communication regarding this "issue". What about people who thought it wasn't a bug or glitch and downloaded games for their PS Vita, will Sony even refund those games now?

Well, fuck. This is pretty shitty.

If it is indeed licensing issues, then it's yet another sign that the current copyright regime is bullshit.

Poor yosp is gonna be bombarded on Twitter after 'acknowledging' this with his Spyro tip a while back. Maybe he'll actually do something about it?!

Can someone elaborate why running PSP games on BC-hardware requires new licensing? I can't think of many other situations from which we can draw parallels, but DSi eShop games all worked on the 3DS, right? iOS and whatnot is probably too different to compare to.

Spyro is available in other regional PSN stores though yeah? So he didn't acknowledge anything really.

obviously everything just magically working was a bug, and you're kind of naive to think all it took was sony to "stop being lazy and flip the switch on all games". those games were unavailable for a reason. a legal one, not a technical one
Citation needed.

(I guess it doesn't really matter anymore but) Is there a list of all the US PSP games that could only be played on Vita through PS3 transfer, or had no way of being played on US Vitas before the bug?

Hope they take the effort to explain what's going on in a blog post.

At least my wife got to download Legend of Dragoon while it was available, I suppose.

Not that anyone here would care but, midnight club 3 dub edition was available in the store before this floodgate opening thing,
But now that these games seem to have disappeared they took it with them.

LA Remix is still on the store though

Motorstorm:Arctic Edge, Wipeout Pure... Both Sony games, both now missing...
What's the reason for those two then?

This may also bring up an interesting issue with PS Now. It is going to probably cost Sony a ton of money to license these same games to play them through the service. Will they have to license each game to make it available on each device PS Now will be available on? Interesting...

Maybe they use licensed music.

So are Vita's with Crash installed going to be selling for big bucks online? I'm guessing it's a licensing thing? Because their mistake got more people interested in the Vita than anything they've done on purpose lately.

Maybe of GAF, but I didn't hear one peep about this on Giant Bomb, Beyond, or any other podcast this past week that recorded when these were live.

I was really going to get a Vita for this..Maybe this "glitch" was attended for E3?

Fair enough, though I'm surprised it didn't get picked up elsewhere because Crash and a few other PS1 games not working on Vita is a pretty common complaint.

Wouldn't all these games still be downloadable to PS3 and transferable to Vita though? If not, why? How is that possible?

Woah? Vita summer purchase postponed. Hopefully they'll address this even though the ship has sailed, it's a bummer for people who have bought stuff already.

Yes exactly

Ps3 licences dont extend to Vita but for some reason the ps3 transfer provides an exception

Who knows but it sounds like they are working on something.

Im guessing the licences will be changed to PSN instead of being platform specific

I remain optimistic that some good changes are on the way and we just got an early glimpse of it

This should have been the case from the start, it's hard to believe they've been so shortsighted as to do otherwise.

Oh this sucks. I wish I bought the Genesis Collection a few days ago. Looking back I'm not even sure why I waited, should have known this was temporary. I wanted to grab Ghostbusters PSP as well

At least I downloaded the games I wanted from my downloads list. Sony will need to pry Spyro from my cold dead vita clutching hands

This shit ain't right. If it really is a licensing issue then how does Nintendo for example get away with keeping wii ware content fully compatible on the wii u ? It's through a virtual wii mode, but it's still on a wii u. I find it hard to believe Nintendo would go out of their way for the licenses while sony wouldn't...

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
IT ALL RETURNS TO NOTHING
I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down~

I'm kinda disappointed I didn't download them now. I've owned both Spyro and Crash for years but already played them to death on PSP. I got Echochrome though. Even if I'm pretty sure it was available before.

You can still transfer Genesis PSP if you have a ps3. And most of the games are still available that way. It's the spyros, crash, and delisted games that were the big finds for me. Jeanne d'arc, Valkyrie 2, MGS, silent hill, Etc have been for years and still are workable via a ps3 to vita transfer. I have no idea why they aren't on the store. The others like crash didn't have that.

Well, dammit.

I'm gonna go cook up some crow for myself, but I'm also sad because I only downloaded the first Spyro to my Vita instead of all 3 :(.

Oh well, Crash 2 and 3 are on there and will never, ever, leave. (Thankfully they're super small)

I refuse to believe that there were people who were planning on buying a Vita, but now aren't, because they can't play Crash Bandicoot games from the 90s on it.

The only game i kinda wished I had jumped on was Portable Ops but that would've just been for archival purposes since I beat it years ago. I managed to get crash2/3/ctr on my vita and I guess they're going to be permanent residents for the time being

no one joining on this? :X

Its ridiculous and totally misses the mark

Rather than be confrontational why not solicit a more humble approach?

Its not Sony's fault if there are licensing issues. These companies sit on mountains of old and unkept license agreements on old software all the time

I hope times are changing though and I think Sony has been actively working on it behind the scenes
