All the legacy Activision games that could come to Xbox BC

Obsidian, and pretty much all of their studios, are working on their own projects right now. Obsidian are making 2 WRPGs of their own.

No we're not on the same page. Especially cause you're trying to count an IP which has at least 2 projects in the pipeline as something 'they're not touching'.
What two projects? Something from a leaked paper that was made back in 2020?

MS has not officially announced anything in the pipeline and I won’t believe it until it’s officially announced. How long has we heard about a Marcus Fenix Gears trilogy collection? Years and nothing.

Fallout 5 has been confirmed by Todd Howard and the Gears trilogy was never in any internal roadmap documents. It's not the same as random twitter insider chatter.

Dude, let me spell this out for you:

MS now owns these franchises, they should be commissioning other studios to work on these. There is no reason to force us to wait 15 or so years for mainline Bethesda to put out another Fallout game. Giving a confirmation that BGS will eventually work on and release another Fallout game well after they finish another game likely is barely in pre-production doesn't count as utilizing especially when you look at MS track record when it comes to franchises like Fable and Halo.

Especially when Obsidian has proven that they can do it better. And no, I am not advocating for Obsidian since they are busy with Avowed. That's what Xbox would be doing with competent leadership, but they don't. They can assemble a team of developers who want to work on these franchises.

Are we on the same page now?
Tell it to Spencer

Yeah there's no way they'll be adding all those games. I'll be happy if they just add all the call of duty games that have a single player campaign. I haven't played any since modern warfare 2 on 360.

I'm sorry, but saying a game is coming that is likely 10+ years away from a studio that just released a major game and has another game coming ahead of it doesn't count. So much can change between now and then. It's absolutely silly to assume that anything that is 10+ years away is relevant. Todd says a lot of stuff. I have no doubt that he expects/intends to work on Fallout 5 at some point, but MS should say "naw" we will hand off Fallout 5 to someone else in the mean time. Take care of Elder Scrolls.

MS has the resources to have these other studios work on it. I can't say I have a ton of faith that MS would actually released a good Fallout game given their track record, but I'd certainly support them trying to do something

That's what I'd like to see happen. I very much hope that Fallout 3 remaster is coming AND that it does well so we can get a New Vegas remaster which is what I really want.

I'm not sure what more you're wanting other than the two games I listed in the original post.
All of these games are already backwards compatible:
Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty 3
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

I wonder if Microsoft is ever going to do a Rare Replay style game for Activision? The amount of vintage games (I mean like old, old) games that Activision has could definitely warrant that type of collection. Then hopefully newer games get BC updates, or remasters

The only games from this list that I would want to check out on Series X, with all of the BC bells and whistles, would be the following:

Blur
Deadpool
Die Hard Vendetta
Goldeneye 007: Reloaded
Gun
Singularity
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
The Simpsons: Hit & Run
Tony Hawk's Underground 1&2
Ultimate Spider-Man
Wolfenstein (2009)
X-Men Origins Wolverine

Once you remove the licensed games, there are only 6 that I think they could realistically bring to the BC program that I would play.

There are already 86 licensed games on the backwards compatibility list.
That's not necessarily an impediment.
Yeah, not necessarily. But how likely are they to bring the BC program back just to go through the licensing hassle for old games that the vast majority of gamers don't care about?

If the acquisition is meant to drastically increase the GamePass installbase, this list isn't going to be doing much.

Out of those 86 games, almost none of them are from Activision, which would suggest that it was Bobby Kotick who refused to allow the inclusion to BC and not the license originators.
Bobby's suggestion of "remakes" today would seem to lend credence to that possibility.
Hopefully, Microsoft forcibly removes him from the premises exactly one second after his current term is up.

None of the Spider-Man games are happening. Pretty sure Marvel isn't going to negotiate for the older titles when they have a current deal with Sony. Only way you see this is if Marvel is pissed at Sony for some reason and wants to let them know they are willing to negotiate with other companies. Even then sounds like a silly fanboy fantasy
I don't think Sony has exclusive video game right to Spider-Man. They probably make deals on case-by-case basis. Sony could block the movie games but not Ultimate and Web of Shadows.

The program is over. Close the thread.
They can always continue it.

I'd love to play some of them, they had a much more diverse lineup in the past and a lot of them are strictly singleplayer games. I've been replaying OG and 360 titles in the past months and having tons of fun. It's very cool that it's so easy, even the disc doesn't have to be stratch-free since the BC version is being downloaded.

Many people are going crazy over backwards compatibility shit, I really wonder who is really playing those games at all.

So because of Disneys acquisitions, a lot of these titles might have an easier chance of returning due to the fact that the licenses have essentially been consolidated into one organisation.

Of that list, Disney (potentially) owns or has rights to sort out (might have missed some):

Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction (potentially needs Rebllion Developments Limited).
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds
Deadpool
Die Hard: Vendetta
Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure
Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse
Fantastic 4
Fight Club
Futurama
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Minority Report
Predator: Concrete Jungle (might need Dark Horse Comics)
Robots
Spider-Man (Maybe Sony has a say with Spider-Man games)
Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 3
Spider-Man: Edge of Time
Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
Starsky & Hutch
The Amazing Spider-Man
The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific
The History Channel: Civil War - A Nation Divided
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
The Simpsons: Hit & Run
The Simpsons: Road Rage
Ultimate Spider-Man
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
X-Men: Destiny
X-Men: Legends
X-Men: Legends II - Rise of Apocalypse
X-Men: Next Dimension
X-Men: The Official Game
X2: Wolverine's Revenge

Then after that you potentially look at Universal (The Thing, Scarface etc.) and Paramount (issues potentially with Dreamworks related stuff), and that's most of the licensed games sorted. That is, if it was actually fiscally interesting to re-release bare bone emulated versions of these games for these companies, which is highly unlikely so... :(

Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction
I had no idea this was published by Activision, always wanted to try it but for some incomprenhensible reason it was only released on consoles whereas I was a PC only guy back then

Edit: Says it was published by EA, how accurate is this list exactly?

It was co-published by Fox Interactive, which Activision owns.

The Fox properties, like Aliens and Predator, were obviously acquired by Disney when they purchased FOX Studios. However, there are already 42 Disney games on the BC list, and 33 of them are licensed IPs. Disney clearly has no problem allowing their licensed games to be released on BC.

Prototype games should be remastered. They were fucking sick. Hulk Ultimate Destruction too but that aint gonna happen. Wonder what happened to that team. Probably cranking out CoD skins in a basement somewhere and Bobby shows up once a month to piss in their coffee pot.
No remaster but both Prototype games were bundled and released last gen (I have a copy on PS4). There's that at least.

Blur has about as much chance coming out as a remastered Project Gotham racing collection releasing anytime soon akin to the recent re-release of Burnout Paradise

You are 1 in 1.000.000 I think. I never heard anybody actually using back compatibility.
I use it a lot

I've finished playthroughs of
Blue Dragon
Brütal Legend
Crackdown
Crackdown 2
BINARY DOMAIN
BioShock 2
BioShock Infinite
Fable Anniversary
Fable II
Psychonauts
SpongeBob SquarePants Truth or Square
Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise
Zuma's Revenge

all thanks to back compat, plus purchased and dabbled with a bunch of other games I didn't end up seeing through to the end.

Also the best version of Deadly Premonition is the 360 emulation on a Series X

I love back compat. I wish more of my library was supported by it. Plus, a lot of BC games are on deep sales pretty frequently. I just bought Max Payne 3 a couple days ago for only $7

Licensing will be the biggest obstacle to getting a lot of titles on Game Pass (Deadpool has seemingly been delisted twice..!).

The next obstacle is how much time, effort, and money MS will be prepared to spend bringing OG and 360 titles to Game Pass. I'm betting not a lot. They'll probably make them available via X Cloud or something.
