I'm with Mato on this one:

Every time we have a thread like this, I just end up shaking my head and wondering what is wrong with you people.

This thread is no exception.

The Metapod thing is blowing my mind- I always saw it that way. It never crossed my mind that people saw the spike as a "nose" and what I thought the front was as the back.

This thing from Kid Icarus Uprising. It's pretty easy to tell from this picture, but the in-game model made me think that the cranium was his head and the crossbones were his face.

Seriously don't understand Metapod.

Although, I thought the green spots on Cradily's head were its eyes, not the yellow spots on the black stripe.

The Metapod thing is kind of surreal to me. My brain can't even understand the angry face/nose thing.

People never played any of the 3D games? Or maybe watched the third episode of the TV show? Or... It blows my mind, haha.

Armaldo and Aganihm are the only things that make sense to me as being misinterpreted.
I'll always see Aganihm GAFs way, even knowing the truth. The green haired mage just looks better to me.
And I don't even know how people see Metapod wrong. I don't get that at all.

Speaking of Pokemon, back in Pokemon Gold, I always thought Zubat looking like it had a black face with two white eyes and two up facing fangs.

In Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire I could tell it was just a mouth but it was pretty hard to tell with G/S/C sprites

never noticed the Bolborb in the background until five minutes ago

AHH!

Although, I just grabbed my case and it is far more blurry than that. I can maybe make out something resembling eyes, but it doesn't pop out nearly as much. Maybe it was made more blurry for NA?

I always liked the "angry eyes" perspective on Metapod. It looked hilariously stern and out-of-place.

I always thought this guy was supposed to be some kind of Goomba when I was a kid.

Didn't realize it was an old man wearing a robe with slightly outstretched arms until I was much older.

Edit:

Oh, and this guy looks like Barney Rubble:

Oh my god. I always thought it was like a short humanoid minion with a white mask. Holy crap.

Blizzard's icons are very very confusing.

What the hell is this?

Pretty sure it's a red sword with a curved tip (pointed to the bottom left corner toward the viewer) being swung downward and cutting through something grey in the background, ripping it in half to reveal the red background.

Yeah, that makes sense.

I have no idea what I'm looking at.

For me, I always saw Link's shield in Zelda 2 as his sword, as though he were holding it straight up and down.

link_sprite_cutout.gif

The impression stuck for yeeeeeears because all I ever saw of the sprite were little pictures in Nintendo Power when I was a kid. I never saw the game live until the 3DS ambassador program.

I've never played Zelda 2 and I thought the green shield was his sword!

I can't, for the life of me, see this the wrong way. This makes no sense to me

Me either, i've even looked at the original box-art and cannot make out what was being misinterpreted. Can someone clarify?

Metapod i can totally see how people misinterpret that. Ho-oh though, no idea what they are seeing.

In Zelda 1 without a booklet you were clueless regarding monster design.
Zelda 2 didnt need it as enemies were better designed.

eg was that an octopus?
for years I thought they were bugs

Similarly, I thought this was just a head without any actual body!

Haha I've never seen Agahnim per GAF. This thread is going places.

For me,
final_fantasy_vi_kefka.png

Always just looked like an old, tired guy.

I can't describe it at all but yeah, I see the sprite of Kefka way different than his 'official' look. I never saw his official art for a while and when I did I thought I was just being fucked with.

I just checked my PAL UK copy and its exactly like in the picture. Maybe it varies between EU regions?

In Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, some people think Brendan has white hair:

But nope, it's a white hat. He has dark hair:

When I was younger (about 5 up to about 8 years old) I used to see the Batman logo in games, movies and cartoons... as oddly spaced teeth.

Eventually I saw it the opposite way round after seeing different logos.

It's a small pic, I apologize... but I always saw Cecil's map sprite as having a really big gaping smile, only a bit later did I realize that the black on the sprite is the shadow of his neck/upper chest.
