Anohana 4

Yukiatsu is a dick.

Armpit fetish? Is this seriously a thing in Japan? This is the 3rd anime I've encountered that mentions it.

8O

WHAT THE HELL?!

If FFXIII is anything to go by.... yes.... there is such a thing as an armpit fetish.

Also I knew you would react like that to the ending of episode 4. We all react like that to episode 4.

The lesson here is that simply being in America makes you better at everything.

That was great with them scuba diving to infiltrate Dream Academy. Wonder what Ichigo's mission in Washington was. Odd since you're stealth missions wouldn't be done in your own nation's capital unless there was like a terrorist threat or something. But even then, you wouldn't trust a 14-year old Japanese girl to do it. But then again, we're America so we would because why not?

What's up with that security guard's hat?

That was your chance to murder Reina guys. Or at least take out her knees or something.

Coffee

Energy drinks

None of the above

What combination of beverages (or lack thereof) do you use to restore yourself to full alertness when tired?

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Coffee, wine, Modela Negra, hard liquors.

Usually one or two of the above.

Hahaha. I knew people would come around to Black Bullet. It just seemed like one of those shows that would kick into high gear once it was done informing the viewer what was going on.

Now for me to get on it an watch episode 4.

Nanana 1-2

This I really like!
Great art style and characters. I like the sherlock/watson dynamic between the blonde genius and the brown
trap Kanahana
Nanana herself is a precious otaku ghost.
This has promise.

Send an application to KEY. You practically work for them anyways.

Can I use AnimeGAF as a reference? :p

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn

What? Was that supposed to be a burn?....

nobody came around on it. the people that didn't like it probably just dropped it.

The last 10 or so pages I scrolled by it seemed some who weren't on board with the show came around to it with the third and forth episodes. I could be wrong but it's still nice to see some positivity on the show regardless.

That wasn't meant as a burn lol. I always joke around with him that he's KEY Public Relation Manager.

Ah I thought so.

With how much you say this I am surprised it isn't a tag......yet.

There's the dose of fabulous I needed in this series.

Nice gym battle. Too bad Ash's bird was completely and rightfully so useless.

Puchimas!! 25

I would play a Puchimas!! RPG.

Ginga e Kickoff! 04

The hunt for a coach starts.

Majin Bone 05

Nice more self discovery episode. But still think the battles are stupid.

reminds me, the boss always likes to take us to brewerys and bars for lunch. dont know why.

Sounds rad. Though drinking around your boss sounds a bit like an iffy proposition, but if it's for lunch it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Unless you drink heavily at noon.

Edit: I've decided that it probably isn't rad and you're better off just going to these places by yourself or with a couple of co-workers and not your boss.

Water often works just well enough to keep me going.

I'll go to coffee or tea in a pinch, but I almost always regret it. Caffeine wakes me up, but then it lingers in my system for hours afterwards and makes me feel crappy.

Most anything I drink just feels like a placebo if it's not alcohol and that's the opposite of a pick me up anyway. At best lowered inhibitions make me more inclined to do things I go 'meh, don't care' to. But hell, caffeine staves off the headaches and can have a lot of more subtle mental benefits so why not?

Rockstar Lemonade because it doesn't taste like an energy drink and it keeps me awake. The Import Monsters aren't bad if you have to go that way, but I'll pretty much avoid anything else that's similar just because it feels like it's eroding me away.

Why are they still singing this song? Aren't people tired of it? I was a while ago.

I like how they were like "She couldn't have just been goofing off all that time in America." Oh you don't know a thing, do you?

Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day Series Review
ano-hana-2.png

***SPOILER WARNING!!!!***

====================================================
Story:
Anohana is a story about friends who drift apart after the death of one of the groups members. The story centers itself around Jinta who has arguably taken the most toll from the death of Meiko. In the beginning of the show Jinta starts to see Meiko (AKA Menma) who he writes of as a "summer beast" or hallucination. He quickly realizes she isn't a figment of his imagination and goes on to accomplish the wish she wants so she can "go to heaven". As the story progresses we learn the toll that Menma's death had on all the people around her and the weight everyone had been carrying through all those long years.

=====================================================
Characters:

Jinta - Jinta is one of the central characters of the plot. He takes a heavy toll on Menma's death and is quite heartbroken about it. Because of this situation he has become a recluse and basically a hikikimori. As the series progresses we actually see that he isn't alone in the fact that he blames himself for Menma's death.

Meiko (Menma) - Is a sweet girl who wants to do right by her friends. She is caring and supportive but also has her own reasons to be around her old group of friends. We learn more about what she truly desires as we come to the end of the series.

Anjo (Anaru) - Another member of the Super Peace Busters. We learn more about her motives and her real personality as the series progresses. Out of all the characters I felt worse for her than anyone else.

Yukiatsu - Least favorite character of the series and a weirdo. But you'll have to find out for yourself what is wrong with him. A real jerk to Jinta and the rest of the group we don't really get his full story until closer to the shows conclusion. The show does it's best to redeem him at the end.

Tsuruko - A real go getter but a somewhat cold and shy person. She is not particularly hard to read but she holds up a defense that we don't learn until well after everyone else in the show. I personally love how well she held together all these years and how forward she is. Personally one of my other favorites of the show.

Popo - Last but not least we have Popo. Not to be confused with DBZ's Mr Popo. He is a hard working and energetic. Another one of my favorites and is a very trusting friend. He is somebody that I would personally love to hang with. We learn of his burdens very late in the show and it feels somewhat forced. However, his story in his own right is tragic.

==================================================
Music:
The OP
Anohana did not have a remarkable soundtrack but it did have a few standouts. Namely the OP which always got you into the proper mood for the show and what you were about to see. You couldn't ask for a better opening for a show like this.

==================================================
Animation:
Animation took me a while to get used to. The art style can be quite beautiful at times and at other times it could just be average. There was never a moment I thought the animation or art style went below average. It was consistent and stuck with a style all the way to the end. Most of the images in this review are from the show including the above screen grab. I personally liked how they panned around scenes and the use of camera angles. Not everyone will live it but I personally was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was.

====================================================
Overall Thoughts:
This is a good anime. Not everyone likes the author but I thought this show had something to tell and had a meaning behind it. It did get melodramatic at times but for the most part this was a feel good show through and through. Some will get depressed by it. It will probably create a void for you. If you like Clannad or Toradora then chances are you will probably like this show.

It may be a simple message and one you won't have to think that hard about but it's theme is an important one and is something that I think most people can resonate with or can put themselves into the shoes of any one of these characters. It's not a perfect show but what it sets out to do and say it does wonderfully.

Anohana is pretty good as whole, but I can't really watch it again because melodrama makes me cringe if it's not cheesy enough. And as funny as
cross-dressing psycho
was, it wasn't enough to make me enjoy those portions.

Either ways, good review man. Glad you enjoyed it.

I am glad I finally got around to it. I finished it weeks ago. Just been busy and kept forgetting.

Anyways thanks. I did enjoy it for what it is. I'll rewatch it again I am sure down the road but not as much as I do for other shows.

Agreed. It was solid enough but probably not worth a rewatch.

Haven't watched the movie version but that's probably the best way to "rewatch" the series if you were going to do it.

Maturity, bitches.
A more important question (because who wants to talk about anime in the anime thread) is:

Do you use loose tea or a tea bag the majority of the time?

When I have to stay up unreasonably late and have to remain functional I make sure to pair my caffeine with a pain killer because it helps with the "I feel like total shit" aspect while the caffeine helps with the "I want to sleep" aspect. Usually what's left is "I feel weak".

Are you sure it isn't the dehydration from the caffiene that makes you feel like shit afterwards? It's why I always pair my coffee drinking with equal amounts of water.

And I say this as someone who drinks like 1-2 pots a day.
If you set your quality barometer to DVDs and shit upscales sure. If your reference are proper re-releases then no. And the only reason anime pricing is justified in the first place is because of how cost scales. On a re-release of a show like TTGL that doesn't apply and it's just Aniples rimming people because they can. Not that I will judge people if they do want to pay that. You are happy with it and that's cool with me!

If you ever come to the Chicagoland area and have time, I will find you and we will watch these glorious, well-remastered, BDs. You'll see.

I didn't enjoy Ano Hana at all. I remember thinking that it could have turned out better if it was feature length, maybe I should give the movie version a chance.

God I really, REALLY hope this was the only episode that
threw a bone to the vanilla supporters as I absolutely hated how they were forcing a relationship between Akane and Tsugumi. It felt random and completely fucked with the previous 3 episodes that built the ground for a possible love triangle between the three female leads. Kill him, make him get with Clay, I don't fucking care but keep that guy away from the holy trinity for god's sake.

I rarely go to the strength of coffee unless I really need it at the time, and I always get a lot of water regardless. The feeling like shit part comes from continuing to exert effort when you should have gotten sleep many hours ago.

Ore Monogatari has now become my favorite currently ongoing manga. It has beaten currently airing anime in two important categories

Best Bromance: Gon x Killua Sunakawa x Takeo
Cutest duo/couple: Fuyimiya x Hase Takeo x Yamato (she's even named like one of my favorite animes, pure win)
Most hilarious lead: Takeo. He doesn't even have competition.

I can't recommend this manga enough. It's a shojo. But it hasn't followed a single cliched shojo trope. This could easily be a shonen comedy if it wasn't for how diabeetus cute it is. I've been laughing out loud. Do yourself a favor and read this if you like great comedy, incredible bromance, or a very cute diabeetus couple. Please do.

Woofdawg seal of approval. So fucking hard. Also that lead image is misleading. The male lead is not the one you think it is based on regular shojo. It's the one on the left. I think the author is a fan of man-bears and lumberjack-like men.
