On April 25, 2014, Apogee Software, Ltd. Action Entertainment, Inc. (DBA 3D Realms), filed five separate trademarks in the US via the USPTO for "3D Realms" (with some subtitles/slogans). They entered the Trademark Reporting and Monitoring System (TRAM) yesterday, on April 26. They are all basic 1(b) Intent-To-Use filings related mainly to computer game programs and computer game software. Most interesting among these is a new corporate logo, first described in filing 86263450:

They also trademarked one with a slogan:

Additionally, they trademarked something called 3D Realms Accelerate (below the one with the logo):

Looks *insert disapproving adjective here*.
But no, seriously, why do they need a new logo? Are they actually doing something new with the Duke?

There appears to be no relation between the 3D and the realms. It's like two individual images just pasted on to one page.

From a non-nostalgic perspective the Old logo is still better. Like someone said, the new one is boring.

Before everyone shits on it, bear in mind the only person still at 3D Realms is the custodian, and he's got fingers in a lot of pies.

This one doesn't look bad when it's size appropriate. No idea why the 3D is just barely offset to the left though, that's a dumb look.

The "3D" is over the "EA" in realms instead of being horizontally centered over the "AL". Are they owned by EA now or something?

I can't figure out if the new logo is an awful failed attempt to make the text look 3D, or a successful attempt to imitate a 3D effect while looking incredibly bland and flat.

What do they actually make these days?

Is it just 1 guy who owns the name?
George Broussard, Scott Miller and Bryan Turner appear to be who's still there. Don't know what has happened after the Interceptor aquisition, but George and Scott are still listed as directors anyway.

Also, I had a look at where the address 4809 Beltline Rd. #111 Mesquite TX leads (as it's listed as office address), and it appears to be this building:

Whether they just store stuff there or actually have an office there I don't know, the image is from 2012 (where they operated from home as far as I know).

Why're so many damn companies changing logos and most of them look like some guy who went into MS Paint or Word and thought fonts were cool.

It's amazing to me that a video game company can have such a terrible, boring logo. It's the same with a lot of these companies too. It shouldn't be that hard to make a nice logo.

The old logo looks like it would be on a junior high kids notebook right next to Metallica. The new one isn't much better.
