More Mortal Kombat HD remake (canceled) material surfaces

I'm sad that this never saw release; I mean I doubt HD digitized sprites are something that appeals to a wide crowd but for this it would've been spectacular. It just looked so faithful.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't remember this guy from any of the previous games.

Dan Southworth playing Sub-Zero would've made this the best thing ever. Damn shame it was canned.

They got shut down by WB :(
lol WB may have shut down the actual game development, but they haven't stop them from making game assets.

All it means is some other crafty group will rig up those models into an actual Mugen game ;)

This was going to rule.

Why did digitizing actors fall out of favor? I guess it's easier and cheaper to skin models but I loved the look of real people in a game.

A modern game with real backgrounds and fully animated actors would look pretty amazing.

Oh man I regret having not bought the thing that was never offered to me. WTF?

Sigh another thing that would have been cool but eventually got changed into something not nearly as awesome.

I don't like what they did with Reptile's costume.

Sorry.

Looks awesome. Wish it wasn't canned.

One of the problems was that they had to take pictures of the exact same positions of the originals. Unlike other remakes on which they put 3D models in front or drew over the original sprites. That resulted in changes over yhe originals movesets and combos. And the audience they were aiming for would've break the game to pieces for each frame that was changed and not been true to the original.

That remake with the 3D models would've been better in both results, time and budget, but guess they wanted to please the hardcore fans more than anything.

In the end, the 2011 game was basically a remake with updated gameplay. And the released Arcade Kollection served its purpose of re-releasing the original games unchanged.

I remember following this and being bitterly disappointed when it was cancelled. Still stings :(

Also, "would"? Really? Girl who works in makeup and girl who was to be photographed for video game in attractiveness SHOCKER.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Wow, that looks great. I wish they were still producing this.

It was probably hella expensive to reshoot all those actors, no? I wonder if that's why it was shut down.

We should talk about this doe

HD MK Mugen Project

Now THIS would be an awesome remake. Hell that looks better than MK9. I really hope Netherrealm tries to go back to MK's roots more realistic looking models in future MK games.

this was happening!?!??!?!

what a phenomenal idea!

very curious as to why this was shut down.

obviously they were already well into production, so would it not be worth it to finish the project & release it to the hungry hungry masses?

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
As much as I love MK, the system itself is really dated, and a fresh coat of paint wouldn't help that much. If you play MK9 and then go back to, say, MK Trilogy, you'll see how same-y all the characters are and how primitive the system really is. I'm not too upset we're not getting this.

This would have been the first MK game released in a while that had women with normal looking faces.

In all seriousness this would have been awesome.
