Watch Dogs 60fps on PS4? [Update: 1080/60fps text removed from website]

Not sure if this was answered, but latest previews were on PS4, right.? Any of writers mentioned 60fps?

Giant Bomb mentioned that they were showing the PC version (with DS4 controller) along with the PS4 version and that the PC version was running noticeably smoother.

Dont news sites usually ask around before posting news from somewhere else as confirmed? Did IGN contact Ubi or Sony yet?

They do, but it can take some time for the company to respond. As soon as some media outlet starts reporting it the others follow. They have very little to lose as they can just update their rumor post, which fuels more traffic to the site. In terms of getting clicks this is probably better, as you get two "news cycles" out the same subject/article.

Tin foil hat on- Maybe Sony pushed for locked 60fps with the graphics downgrade being the result of this to try and push the marketing of the only console to do 1080p, 60fps?

I didn't find the latest footage to be all that impressive, it looked more like a well polished PS3 game, so like GZ it could very well be 60FPS. I don't believe it will be however.

You can't be serious. I highly doubt that Sony would do that. I guess we will see in 2 weeks.

I'll be shocked if it's better than the locked 30 fps on AC4.

I'm playing AC4 on PS4 after having just finished Sleeping Dogs on PC at 60fps.

Man I wish AC4 were 60fps, it would be damn near flawless graphically. It has a lot more detail in the textures than Sleeping Dogs, but I'd love lower res textures and 60fps, AC4 already has a lot of input lag just when looting bodies, fighting, dropping from ledges etc., and the 30fps seems to exacerbates it.

In short I actually prefer Sleeping Dogs graphically, especially in 3D.

Eurogamer now running the story:

Hence why I said "Tin foil hat" haha. Throwing a spanner in the works :p

Was just a thought. Sony really are pushing the whole 1080p thing though. Have done from the beginning.
Didn't see "tinfoil hat" bit. My bad. Sure, they are pusing 1080p/60fps thing from the start of PS4, but I'm not sure if they would say to Ubi "Drop details so we can ramp up FPS to 60." That's more of a studio's decision. DF face-off will be bloodbath, can't wait.

I don't see how this game would run at 60 FPS. Unless they mean it has an unlocked frame rate like Tomb Raider.

It's kind of funny IGN and Eurogamer are running with this story when they only have one source (with no confirmation.)

Come on, the anticipation is killing me. If this is 30 I'm totally not interested. If it's 60 the game becomes an open world action game. The shooting and driving will become the emphasis. I've only held a mild interest in this due to a rather dull theme. If the emphasis is on performance that sounds wicked.

Haha yeah I know I know. I can't wait for it either. I have a sneaking suspicion the PC version will run very much like AC4.... no comment there.

Will be interesting to say the least considering all the controversy surround Watch Dogs

It's interesting that between Ubisoft Montreal and Reflections there are thousands of people who have seen the game in its most recent form, yet not one insider, anonymous cog in the machine, or director have taken to twitter to spit out 15 characters to deny Sony's claim after days of big fish gaming media outlets picking up the story. The plot continuous to thicken.

I think its really strange that we don't have any official statement. You'd think that Sony and/or Ubisoft would set things straight if this were a mistake before sites run the story and get peoples hopes up.
It wouldn't be strange if it's actually true though. Then what would there be to set straight? "We want to set things straight that the statement on Sony's site, which is also being reported on other sites, is not a mistake."

If this turns out to be true, I guess I will be getting Watchdogs. I wasnt planning on it. If its unlocked and has performance similar to Infamous, I will definitely have to pick it up.

I don't expect Ubi to confirm or deny though.

That link is broken, but I'm willing to bet it says 60Hz, not 60fps.

Can't find another pic of the case, but I have the game too, and it says 60 frames per second. I have not seen even one second where that happens. Still, regardless of how it (watch dogs) turns out frame rate wise, I am looking forward to checking it out. :)

It's probably unlocked and if you look at the sky It's 60. But we should have all learned by now to never take a developers word on framerate. Even if it was bad they'll never say as such and if it was mediocre they'll imply much better.

It could be but I'll always wait for receipts before believing.

this doesn't make any sense.

Ass Creed 4 was horribly optimized on PC with fluctuating frame rates on top of the line rigs and CPU's.
Ass creed 4 ran at LOCKED 30 FPS on PS4.

Why would Watch Dogs (a game more complex than ass creed 4) run at 60 FPS on PS4?

Blim played the game recently and said it was locked at 30 FPS with rare drops on PS4

Ubisoft really took the time to make sure Watch_Dogs would be worthy of the long wait and it shows. With much variety, tons of content and an impressive attention to detail, this is looking very promising to say the least. Is the game as beautiful as what was shown back in 2012? No, but it is nonetheless a very good-looking game which manages to maintain a 30 fps framerate in most circumstances.

theres something grand about 60 fps in an open world game on consoles. Like a unicorn.

Besides Jak hd collection, are there any open world games on consoles that average 50+ fps?

Same thing on PC. Most open world games I played on PC had fluctuating frame rates. Far Cry 3, sleeping dogs, gta4 etc etc

open world games are too complex and their are too many variables. when 10 cars appear near complex geometry and the player causes an explosion, of course the frame rate is going to tank...then there is LOD, shadow quality and shadow draw distance, numbers of vehicles and pedestrians on scene...

I'm not getting too excited, but the claim is worded VERY strongly on playstation.com, and you'd have to expect Ubisoft to come out and deny it if it is indeed not true.

But since it broke over the weekend, we can't jump to too many conclusions yet... but each passing hour that goes by it looks like that claim stands.

I hope it does, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

do you seriously believe this? All the open world ubisoft games I played on PC were horribly optimized. this is not going to happen, no way....

Why would Watch Dogs (a game more complex than ass creed 4) run at 60 FPS on PS4?

According to the developers Watchdogs was ready to ship on the original release date last year, but they decided to delay it because they were not satisfied with the product and wanted to further tweak some gameplay mechanics and stuff.

I'm assuming the game ran at a pretty steady 30 FPS("shipable") back in 2013 and the programming team basically had a few months more to optimize the game since they aren't really involved in the type of work which the game was delayed for and at the start of a generation a few months can make a big difference.

Thats really the only reason why I'm not completely 100% sure that the 60FPS are misinformation. There is a small chance its actually true.
very small

Yeah, I'm curious about this too.

Maybe they are doing the same "up-resing"/"interlacing" method guerrilla is using to achieve 60fps?

Fits with the whole "the way only the PS4 can provide thing". Maybe it is proprietary code thing sony allowed Ubisoft to use to get a left up on the multi-platform titles.

The whole press played the game less than a month ago and we even know Gamersyde said the game was at 30fps (with dips!)

I don't even know how this thread went beyond 2 pages because of what is likely a web designer's mistake.
