Watch Dogs 60fps on PS4? [Update: 1080/60fps text removed from website]

so my question is why ubi wouldn't have been upfront about this? Seems like a selling point. Perhaps as not to shatter the illusion of parity between platforms (some sort of nda?)

Or that it's not 60 and Ubisoft isn't aware of this discussion. Or if they went out now and said 30 frames, it would fast get negative spin on forums and give anti-WD people even more ammunition for their arguments.

It's a loose loose situation. Say it's 30 and get negative forum buzz, keep quiet until release and get "you lied! Traitors!" comments upon release.

Seems like they drag out everything in my opinion. Everything from PC footage to resolution and frame rate.

a bottle of syrup of figs and a vindaloo is a loose loose situation.

The problem is that:

- They already said it's 30!
- Gamersyde said it's 30 (with dips!) less than a month ago!

Believing this is just not reasonable, sorry.

Framerate is actually something they could improve on last minute. Maybe even ship at a locked 30 and patch in the 60FPS upgrade.

Its going to be interesting to see this unfold. No matter what happens, it will cause some cool reactions.

To double, and with the director mentioning beforehand that they were shooting for 30?

You'll excuse me if I'm skeptical :p

You don't have to double the framerate, if a game is absolutely locked 30fps, like AC4 for example, then if it was unlocked it would probably be about 45 fps most of the time, dipping down to 30 in the most hectic of moments. Which means it would only need a 33% increase to hit 60 fps most of the time.

Right right, I was going more by the Gamersyde impressions that mentioned that the framerate was dipping when they played it a couple of weeks ago -- and not using ACIV as a a reference since it's a completely different team.

I shall remain skeptical :D

Keep fighting the good fight, lol.
It's grown into a huge story for system warriors across all major gaming outlets over the weekend. There's no way on earth Ubisoft isn't aware of this.

And their game is getting plenty of attention because of it, even though they already said the game shoots for 30fps.

What is there to clarify? They didn't lie, they aren't responsible for whoever is the low-paid intern that types up the game blurbs on Sony's website. If this is giving them free PR and exposure even though the real information is already out there, I don't see why they would go out of their way to reiterate that it's 30fps; but either way, like I said it's still a bit early to know for sure that they won't in order to avoid disappointment later.

Id say its more safe to believe its 30 really. Its kind strange that they did not sold that before. Or they optimized it by now (what is hard to believe) or that information is misleading.

I would just believe it if we have one more source confirming it, that dont point to PS website again.

They'd do it because that would be ANOTHER news story and MORE free exposure for their game.

Is there a possibility for backfire on this?

Suit: "Ehh, guys, the itnernet thinks this si 60 FPS, you gotta make it 60 FPs now".

Devs: "OK, shader complexity, reduced, AA, reduced. Number of particle effects, reduced. Do we need HBAO? - the human eye cannot tell the difference from SSAO. Ok it's 60 FPS now!"

GAF: YAY! 60 FPS FTW!

I understand being skeptical but as we know PS4 has more powerful GPU, has no eSRAM issues, faster RAM and by all accounts developer tools are further along on the PS4. To boot, the marketing arrangement between Sony and Ubisoft could be a factor (if it can be done, Sony might push for it given their investment). It's not unthinkable is all I'm saying.

I'm not saying otherwise. Believing that it suddenly is 60 frames just weeks after demoing what is probably the final game to the press is crazy.

At best it will be a smooth 30.

Ubisoft would be braging left and right about 60 fps . not likely
No, they would not. They'd not promote the PS4 version as superiour if they want to keep a good partnership with MS. Remember how AC4 was identical on PS4 and One on release and then got the 1080p resolution patch later?

First, there is no way they are changing a lot of things like this 2 weeks from release.

Second, I WISH this would happen if it meant 60fps. :p

I don't get the obsession over 60fps. It seems to become a bigger and bigger issue every month and with every new release game, and I just don't get it. It's not at all something I look for when deciding to buy a game or not.

The game is done, disc are pressed and you don't suddenly make a game 60 frames. You have to plan that stuff out years in advance. It's a key element in setting the ground level for a games technical fundament.

I'd say your logic was good, if not for what happened with Tomb Raider. That averaging much closer to 60 than 30 on PS4 came out *really* late. The developers had already said 30 then too.

Dude, its not a confounding mystery.

60 FPS is always better than 30 FPS. It makes the gameplay smoother and more enjoyable. So it is only natural for people to crave it.

I agree with you but we have to keep in mind that Watch_Dogs was Demo'd numerous times (also by gamersyde) and they all point to the frames being 30fps. But...
BELIEVE

If you say so, can't say I've ever really cared about it one way or another. So, I still stand by what I say - I just don't get the obsession. It's like some Holy Grail of gaming.

The minority of people actually care about it, if 60FPS was such an issue GTA V would not have even sold close to the amount of copies it did. I mean I enjoyed GTA V so much and it sat probably at average under 30 let alone at 30 most of the time.

Yeah, I enjoyed GTA V. Couldn't tell you what the fps was on it, as I didn't care.

I'd happy with a rock solid 30. I haven't played a recent open world of this scale that could average that. I mean GTA V was under 25 most of the time. If WD has an unlocked framerate that's fine by me.

Yeah, I enjoyed GTA V. Couldn't tell you what the fps was on it, as I didn't care. I think the only time I've felt like a game was ruined due to slow motion frame rates was Saints Row 2, even then I played the game for a while.

Its by no means a "Holy Grail" of gaming. Its a trade-off. Obviously you have to make some major concessions graphical to be able to achieve it. Its not always the better option. However, for some games (like racers for instance) it works much better. Hence why people were so anticipating that DriveClub go for 60 FPS.

The game is a few days away from release, it has been downgraded and we still dont know the resolution or frame rate

All signs point to a disaster of a port

All signs point to more console wars nonsense here. The game looks great at it is now. A few might be loath to admit that.

If it was consistently above 60fps on PS4, it would be a 60fps game on PS4. The same goes for any other platform. If it isn't, there'll be real technical reasons for that, most likely the console CPUs. There's a lot going on in this game.

we haven't seen the game running on a PS4 yet. Just PC with PS4 specs...lol

I'd sacrifice visual effects for fps all day.

You would, but as it's clear from this thread, not everyone agrees with you.

This is one of those things that sucks on consoles. Everything is always fixed, determined by developers/console manufacturers.

Give me options or give mne death!

If it runs 60ish like the TR remake I'm fine with that, might even buy it. Dropped my preorder when I realised I like FFXIV a lot.

It's not even a twitch/arcade kind of a game, I don't see why they would care about 60fps. There's an emphasis on realistic animation in these kinds of games over breaking animations for immediate input responsiveness. The sales/word of mouth benefit of sacrificing visuals for framerate isn't greater or proportional to the benefit of sacrificing framerate for visuals. There's no reason why this would be 60fps- they would just up the visuals.
