How do you know, were you there in Victorian times ?

I'm pretty sure the sky was still blue back in the old days, pretty sure smog wasn't as bad that it blocked out the sky either.

The devs have clearly gone with these muted tones to give it a feeling of depressing slum like conditions.

That's a painting of a Victorian dock, as you can see, not much clear air.

I've been on gaf for quite a while, this is not a new thing. I actually enjoy reading the hyperbole, and seeing how others either support or try to tear it apart.

Also, the stream portion is just something new. Sure, streaming quality wasn't fantastic since it's not a perfect technology, but there's plenty of time to release full high quality videos down the road. We can also start focusing on the aspects many gaffers in this thread have asked to know more about, and try to answer those questions and inquiries as best as we can.

So keep with the chatter, I always try to read all of it.
Any word on a high quality version of the vid? Even just a 1080p one on Youtube would be nice.

What are the anti-consumer policies of the Xbox One right now? Would love to know considering MS has changed a massive amount of policy in just the last month.

Saying The Order looks generic or lacking isn't an agenda. The game visually looks amazing, but the gameplay appears to be lacking.

Many months remain between now and launch and things could improve in some way.

True, MSFT has changed some policies. Personally, I won't support MSFT more than I have to until they have a built-in audio adaper and rechargeable controller battery (like the DS4). Charging $50 for those items is robbery. They need to win gamers back, and that goes further then rectifying their mistakes. don't want to derail this thread tho...

A lot of the hate posts about this game are people with hidden agenda and people that will just complain about anything. So far, The Order appears to be a very solid title, that was my point.

I think it's recoil. Because he is purposefully aiming above and around them, not at them, but it does seem like a heavy, challenging gun. It's pretty much the size of a mini-gun.

Yeah... Now I get what you're saying and he's definitely aiming and shooting around them, but it does seem like a recoil heavy gun.

Is that bad aiming or recoil? Anyway, the game looks great visually, but the gameplay doesn't seem as fluid as I hoped. Also, movement and animations seems rough.

I don't know... Something about that footage seems off.

I thought the opposite, looked like MGS style cutscene to gameplay smooth transition.

The last thing I expected in this thread was a bizarre insult towards sex workers.

It's amazing what people can glean from a couple of minutes of video.

I will admit that sounded way better in my head.....what I was trying to say and probably should've said was that the game seems to lack a soul from all the media I've seen in it it has no personality. Generic isn't quite the word but....yeah it lacks personality.

If you guys would talk about the game instead of each other's posts this thread would be half as long and half as shitty.

Sony Gears of War set in Victorian London with monsters

Will buy (love love love love FUCKIN love the atmosphere)

I'm just fuckin mad at how they're showcasing this game so far, can't wait for E3 and hopefully a full trailer (and please don't be heavily scripted)

Whenever I watch these early gameplay videos I'm trying to get a sense of what I'll be doing - as the player - and the kind of choices I'll make, either from moment to moment or as part of a longer term strategy.

In this video, with me as the player, I watch a cut-scene which then puts me into a firefight on street level. Cover to the left with allied AI using it, cover to the right with allied AI, and cover forward in the street with another allied AI using it. I guess I'd use the big ole empty cover in the middle for this firefight then.

Now, I'm behind cover, what are my choices? There doesn't seem to be any real need to advance as the enemies are all at height, and no reason to look for alternative cover spots for angles or defensive moves since nothing the enemy is doing looks to affect me here. So my choices are really in which order to take the enemy positions down in.

Once that's done the game literally asks you to fire your special weapon attack into the building's second floor so you can see a canned explosion and advance the checkpoint forward.

Then policeman guy gets downed and you're asked to attend to him. You get to move up and hit triangle, at which point you're now stuck on rails while a line of enemies will walk on to a rooftop in the open and fire on you at point blank range with their pistols. The choice here is the same, to prioritize who to shoot, only now you've got no cover to work with.

Once you take down those enemies in whatever order since they're all the same, you get another cut-scene and the story moves forward.

So, as a showcase of visuals, this video is fine. As a showcase for gameplay, nothing that's come out for this game looks engaging in the slightest. No interesting choices to be made whatsoever.

If there's a fun game in there, I'd love to see it at some point.

Gameplay and graphics look really solid, as solid as a livestream feed capture on youtube can look. Here's hoping for some direct capture footage soon. Loving the whole cinematic feel of it too.

I need a gif of a white knight throwing his shield to the ground. Cause that's just what I did. I've defended this game on a, wait til we see more angle and they release this. Just disappointing.

How does "very nice" quantify? How does that phrase translate to a number?

Stable 30 at the best. Let me tell you something: if framerate is "smooth", "very nice" or something like that it's not worth giving a number. If it's 60 it becomes a selling point and then they write it out as a number. It's fascinating really.

I'm inclined to agree with you, at least about the not worth giving a number part. Hopefully because they are still optimizing it and not because it is 30 "at best".

Have we seen any beastly (non-human) enemies yet?
Also, if played on a 21:9 tv, will there still be black bars?

Ohh hand son impressions this time.

This worries me. Game Informer gave their hands off impression of this segment ages ago. And now we get hands on impressions of the same segment? Tuesday better have more going for it than that. Otherwise, it's yet another PR misstep IMO.

Well the game has atleast 50 shades of grey

But the gameplay didnt impressed me at all, so at the moment i wouldnt buy this on day one.
I fear i might get the same experience like with Second son which had nice graphics but the rest didnt really justify the full price purchase.

Looking good to me. Love all the little sparks and explosions. They still have a lot of time to spruce it up. I'll go on blackout for this after E3.

I'm really curious how's the hell Sony 1st party are so so popular on the internet.

This thread (2400+ post) almost > than all of Sunset Overdrive threads start from 2013 leaks (2800+ post from about 10 threads).1
This game looks far better than anything next gen, it's pretty simple. 3rd person action/adventures are also very popular, theme and story look interesting and it built some hype since it was the only game Sony showed at E3 that wasn't an indie game (or shown their PS4 reveal).

Yeah... Now I get what you're saying and he's definitely aiming and shooting around them, but it does seem like a recoil heavy gun.

I had the same thought when I first watched the stream but I noticed that upon rewatching. That gun is very interesting but I think since people have no real introduction to it, they assume it operates just like any other gun with a secondary fire. Where in reality, the gun is useless without the deliberate use of both firing modes.

I'm jealous of the developers at Ready At Dawn. Getting to create graphics like that must have been a wonderful experience. This might make me go into overdrive to finish my portfolio sooner...

The only thing I don't like is the Call of Duty style health. I'm ok with the cover system but regenerating health again? If they were brazen, they would bring back the classic hit point system.

But I guess marketing would be against that.

Even if the gameplay is nothing revolutionary, as long as it has tight controls and the level designs are great, then I'd be perfectly fine with the end product. Hell, Max Payne 3 didn't revolutionize 3rd person shooting, but it was still a fun game.

Neither here nor there, but Max Payne 3 sucked dong, precisely because it didn't have tight controls or great level design.

The "generic" complaints make sense because so far the only major defining features of this game that set it apart from standard TPS gameplay tropes are its good graphics, unique setting, and... a QTE melee system.

Modern Resident Evil's "thing" is focus on co-op, score attack modes, weapon purchases and upgrades, and the stun->melee combat loop.
Dead Space has dismemberment and antigravity and upgrades.
Gears popularized and modernized the cover system as well as set the standard for competitive TPS multiplayer.
Mass Effect has class based upgrades, unlocks, and different powers based on class.
Uncharted has platforming and hand-to-hand melee combat.
Tomb Raider has... I dunno, platforming I guess. (not the best example, and I'm sure many would actually agree)
Sunset Overdrive has fast acrobatic traversal, superpowers and wacky weapons, and fighting hordes of enemies.
The Last of Us incorporates stealth and survival mechanics.

The Order has mustaches and letterboxing and really good looking leather and metal.

I'm sure that RAD has some hook in there that they want to show off, but they haven't yet.

This is my big issue. They've talked so much about so many different features that would make for an incredible game but have only shown the most bland parts. It's really hard to believe and very strange. I'm massively excited for this game based on what they've described but they really need to show it.

what is wrong with that though? i fukin love it when marcus says 'scratch one grub' or 'hardly seems fair' etc. who gives a shit if that doesnt advance the story, not everything a character says needs to. i hope the characters in this game talk a lot of shit while in combat.
the thing thats most annoying me about this game is the lack of multiplayer

Nothing wrong with it. Just shows that how GAF thinks dialogue should be written and how the dialogue actually has to be written are two very different things. Bissell has spent a lot of time with soldiers, written about war torn countries, and he really wanted to inject that into the dialogue but it just didn't work because there are very specific lines that video game combat has to hit.

Holy crap you guys have written a ton. Still going through all of the comments here.

Regardless of good, bad, or everything else comments, I'm just glad to see people talking about our game again. I know it's generic for me to say "stay tuned for more information in the future...", but it'll come, and will hopefully answer a lot of your outstanding questions.

Now all aboard the hype train to E3!

Overall I liked the (sadly too short) trailer, but two things bothered me:

1. The tearing. I hope you guys can fix it until the game ships.
2. The AI. They just don't do anything when they get shot. Hopefully this will also be better in the retail game.

But yeah, looking forward to E3 and more gameplay videos.

Maybe, I think Xbox and PC fans really like to follow Sony Games because lacking on their side.

Strange handling of this game so far but it's not like the real media push for this game has started. We know it's coming, we know it's a looker, but there is definitely something missing from what we've seen so far: and that's some kind of unique selling point. I hope to see it at E3. I'm not especially worried that we haven't seen it so far because we've genuinely seen about 3 minutes of gameplay and a bit of cutscene.

I hope they get it right, I really like the setting of this game.

If there's not very important character and plot progression through dialogue when some random NPCs are shooting at you, then what's the point of gaming? Obviously the few gaf members complaining about it have legit complaints.

I bet if Sunset Overdrive would be released on the PS4 the studio would suddenly not be awful anymore ...

No, I really have always liked Insomniac. Its just that the console they are exclusive on is awful LOL.

Back to the topic, If this game is to be successful / critically acclaimed it needs the length and diversity and exploration of a Resident Evil 4.

As such, what we have seen should be a tiny tiny snippet.

If it is not, then it better have coop. If it has neither, then ....mmmm
