Battlefield: Hardline (cops vs. thieves) leaks, tons of info [Officially Announced]

Sorry EA battlefield 4 destroyed any hope of me picking up or getting at all excited about any game under the "battlefield name" ever again. I tried it again on xbox one yesterday, and to my shock and horror it's still so broken, how on earth they brought out DLC onto a game that broken shocks me, they should have had the team or at least part of it locked in a room until it was fixed.

From the source.

label:"Enforcer",val:data.scores.sc_enforcer
label:"Mechanic",val:data.scores.sc_mechanic
label:"Operator",val:data.scores.sc_operator
label:"Professional",val:data.scores.sc_professional

Soldier types possibly.

Enforcer - Medic/Assault
Mechanic - Engineer
Operator - Support/LMG
Professional - Recon/Sniper/Close-quarters.

Would be my guess. Same set-up as BF3-4, just different names so it isn't "LOL BATTLEFIELD CLONE"

LOL BATTLEFIELD CLONE

EDIT5: I believe Commander mode will be available too.

*groan* Unless they tweaked it, I'd rather they remove it and suffer fan bitching than it being there and breaking the game by having too much advantage on one side while the other never gets a Commander until too late.

Yeah, I think they just realized that if they want to compete with CoD then it has to be a yearly franchise. They can't go a year or two without a new game when CoD is in the news every year with a big new release.

This is what kills the Battlefield.jpg

EA needs to stop with chasing the Call of Duty money, that series is starting to enter decline. Let Battlefield do Battlefield. Not Call of Field.

If the games in the Battlefield line can differentiate themselves well enough and have different studios within EA offering their take, then I think it can work annually. Actually it would benefit the mainline Battlefield a lot more. SWAT this year, Battlefront next year as the "Battlefield" entries, then a triumphant return of the mainline Battlefield in 2016 with a 3 year dev time.

If its cross gen, I'm simply not going to buy it. That being said, hopefully the next fully fledged BF game for 2015 is not cross gen.

More details, from the comments via source:

Yeah it's probably the rumored SWAT themed BF game. I've found quite a lot of info...

EDIT1: The code-name is apparently Omaha.

EDIT2: Possible game modes: TDM, Turf War (Small and Large), Heist and Blood Mooney.

EDIT3: Possible teams: SWAT, Thieves, "LW" and "CR".

EDIT4: The game is pretty much ready for E3, Heist and Blood Mooney will be playable on the map High Tension (MP_Downtown).

EDIT5: I believe Commander mode will be available too.

EDIT6: Possible "classes" (maybe they're just loadouts): Enforcer, Mastermind, Techincian and Professional. There should be vehicles too.

EDIT7: Possible in-game store where you can buy weapons and accessories (hopefully ala CounterStrike).

EDIT8: There will be the police baton ("The police baton is used in melee combat to deter wrongdoes from bad behavior.")
Now this is the good old Visceral style "We know everything about your game before you announce it." leak I was expecting.

I'm actually really happy this is about thieves with heist modes instead of the cartel, since the potential to play differently is much higher.

Battlefield: Payday, perhaps?

Battlefield: Payday, perhaps?

Yes, that's the impression I get.

Edit:

Also, Visceral basically confirmed:

reddit said:
Hey DICE, the emblem creator is now broken, there is 2 missing emblems, one of them is called 'visceralskull' and if you click on it and save, it completely breaks the emblem creator. It creates the object but does not load effectively breaking it.

So..I guess this means no Dante's Inferno sequel?? But yea I was secretly hoping Visceral would be making Bad Company 3.

Anyone remember this?

Hope it's similar.

Counter-strike has been doing this since 1998. It'd be cool to see a BF-style warfare game on the level of counter-terrorist units around the world like Seal Team 6, French GIGN, Special Air Service, etc.

Whether it's terrorists, robbers, etc, as the enemy, the game play needs to be top notch. In my opinion, my first comparison of the gameplay including gunplay will be directly to Counter-strike. If the gunplay is anything like COD, it's gonna be a laughing stock.

Having a Battlefield attached to the name of this game will not help it one bit. This will be just another CoD ripoff with some elements stolen from Payday.

This game will meet the same fate as MoH.

It's not a big concern for me. The last gen ports of BF4 were so cut down that it might as well have been a different game. I'll also take 60fps over more eye candy.

Not if each brand within Battlefield is able to differentiate itself enough. This game is currently sounding very different from the traditional BF games. And the concept is obviously very different. They can/should also bring Bad Company into the loop and keep the old humor. That way they could keep the brand relevant every year while avoiding franchise fatigue because each game is very different from the last.

It's a shame since I thought DI was pretty decent, and it ended on a cliffhanger. I actually though the original did decently at retail even though the reviews were mediocre. But I guess it didn't reach whatever expectations EA had. Which were likely high since they bought a Super Bowl spot for the game.

That's silly - if this logic prevailed PC gamers wouldn't be able to buy any cross-platform game and yet most generally perform and play great on the PC.

This sounds like absolutely the best direction to take Battlefield in. It'll be fantastic if they manage to work actual police chase mechanics into things, although I'm guessing that's probably not what they're going for here.

I'm guessing it'll have some Legion of Shadows-type shit for the thieves if they're going to be even with the cops, mind.

I really wonder what the Map sizes will be. What drew into BF4 and has kept me playing is the large 64 player maps and sense of scale.

I really hope this can capture that as well, but I'm not sure if you can do a cops vs robbers as 32 vs 32 players.

I'm also curious about vehicle support and how it will work.

Indeed. For all intents and purposes this COULD have been a different game altogether, but EA is wisely using the Battlefield name since it means an instant fan base.

I'm very curious what Visceral has in store for this one. They can either make their own version of Battlefield or crash and burn. Personally, I'm hoping for the former.

If they take inspiration from BF2: Special Forces I will be unbelievably excited. Grappling hooks and zip lines where so fun to mess around with and probably would mesh quite well with a swat themed game.

It would be interesting if they went the Counter Strike way, we'll see. I'm intrigued by all these new leaks, but now i want MORE.

I actually wouldn't mind this is there were smaller CQB maps which used the environment and load outs really well. Like if there was a bank map and one team had to rob the vault and you had different ways to tackle it like hacking the doors or forcing your way in by blowing through walls, being able to block routes by making changes to the environment. Also taking out things like the lights requiring you decide to take night vision, thermal or flashlight and using smoke/flash effectively.

Meh. Battlefield is fun (or was) because of big vehicle combat and lots of players. If I want a close quarters shooter Ill play CS:GO... not a game with ADS.

I kinda keep holding on to the hope that this will end up being a big expansion to 4 instead of some new game. I don't like the idea of annual Battlefield, especially after they fucked up with 4 when they had 2 years.

I know it's just a video game, but I do wonder about the thinking of putting law enforcement on one side of what amounts to being another elaborate deathmatch game. Definitely different from the usual pitting of national armies, paramilitary factions, and counter-terrorist groups. Of course, the recently revealed and captured goings on of various US local agencies' members killing rather indiscriminately as well as being total bastards otherwise does dampen my feelings about this not representing the role of law enforcement. Also seems like they're biting hard on Payday's success, a well established pattern for EA basically cloning successes of the competition. But my biggest question is why is EA so hot to annualize BF? That raging hardon they've got for CoD money is never going to go flaccid and it might lead to the ruin of a decent series if their lack of QA doesn't.

Oh god this is one of the worst kept secrets from EA I can think of in recent memory.

Still can't believe the cheek of them to make BF annual after the state of bf4.

This does not sound like Battlefield at all. Maybe they should have just tried to launch it as a new IP or would they have too many shoorters in their portfolio that way?

If this is a smaller scope Battlefield game with less emphasis on vehicules, similar to Bad Company, then it will be the game for me.
