Man really wish I owned Conker Live. Now that and Bad Fur Day sell for a lot of money. How is Ghoulies? I love Rare but heard bad things about that game.

Conker isn't that expensive compared to like nes or snes stuff. The n64 version is around $60 and the Xbox version is half that.

not bad for an awesome game or when anything coming out now costs $60 new. They'll also hold their value at least.

Ghoulies is a simple game with little to no challenge to its combat, which is all controlled with one stick. that being said, i like its visuals and the music isnt that bad either. it can be found for super cheap now anyway. has a fair share of unlockables and is a fun little adventure all the way through

It's just sad because I remember it wasn't too long ago when old used games were ridiculously cheap. Now Conker was always in like the 25-30 range, but still, much better than now. That's just how markets go though when they are trendy. Glad I got my Gamecube, NES, SNES, and N64 games before 2008.

I see Conker Live and Reloaded going for 40-50 range and Conker 64 going in the 70-80 range. What really sucks is that I have an uncle 20 miles away who has Conker CIB in perfect condition but there is no way I can borrow from him since he has gone crazy and our whole family had to distance ourselves from him.

I have never played Live but have definitely played through the original. One thing I notice is that Live and Reloaded has amazing visuals, but that the N64 one seems to have more expressive animation. It's very interesting. Does Live and Reloaded play well?

Any way to download it on Xbox 360? I have all 3 Xbox Systems and a 64, trying to decide which version of Conker to get.

I see, one of those easy kids game from that gen, I remember quite a few of those on Gamecube. The combat is controlled with a stick? Interesting. Glad to hear it is a fun game, I'll check it out, thank you.

Finally did the Xbox softmod so now I can play games from all regions. Excellent.

Man, the Xbox is actually way more fun to collect for than I expected as there are quite a few gems and other interesting curiosities. The fact that most games are dirt cheap really helps make it enjoyable to collect for.

At last, we can now run Panzer and Valkyrie in 480p on 1.6 Xboxes with the shitty Xcalibur encoder. I posted a writeup on my blog but it's easy enough to describe here. Rip the games to your HDD, replace the original .XBE with a new patched one (as well as a companion .XBE), and boom. Done. PAL and NTSC.

Thinking of picking up an Xbox on eBay sometime. Might even splurge and get a Mountain Dew or Halo edition one, haha. Games I'm thinking of getting are:

Jet Set Radio Future (honestly the main reason I want one, I miss this game so much)
Crimson Skies
Phantom Dust
Otogi 1/2
Crazy Taxi 3
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Breakdown
Outrun 2

So many classics on that huge piece of hardware. Is there a certain cable I should buy to make games look alright on an HDTV? I know I had to buy a certain cable so that my PS2 games didn't look like absolute crap, but I'm not really an A/V junkie. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Ahhhh, now I get it. I just encountered this today with Quantum Redshift.

I left my original Xbox back home and took this newer unit with me only to run into this issue.

What I've found is that 480i looks rather poor on the Xbox when output through a scaler (using an XRGB here). I believe it's the flicker filter or something designed to improve the appearance on interlaced displays. The PS2 is very flickery on a normal CRT but when run through a nice upscaler it appears much sharper in 480i than the Xbox does.

I bought one to flip and make a profit but no one was interested so I kept it. Glad I did because my roommates and I spent countless hours playing Halo. Great memories.

I'll miss you og xbox

If your Xbox is modded with XBMC, you can play with the global flicker filter setting and sharpen your image considerably. It might be on other dashes but I use XBMC.

Man, what is up with the owners of xbox games.... every game that I bought used comes heavily scratched and with damage in the box (despide the listing describing them as in great shape). I have to keep buying only sealed games and paying a premium for that or buy multiple copies of the same game to assemble a decent set.

By the way got Sneakers, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Amped, Spikeout, Curse: Eye of Isis, Blinx 2 in the last weeks.

I haven't had any luck lately either. I bought Ninja Gaiden Black, supposedly new. It wasn't, and the manual was missing the front and the back page. At least the disc was in a good shape, and the seller agreed to send me another game for free (I picked the vanilla Ninja Gaiden, which arrived with the manual in the same puzzling state). Also Transformers (Armada) for PS2, supposedly brand new, but it was actually used, and the disc has started to crack at the inner rim. Similarly with Infinite Undiscovery, although that one at least had no serious defects. Finally, my copy of Ryse: Day One Edition got lost in the mail (thankfully, I was refunded).

I've been similarly disappointed with the quality of used games from Amazon and ebay. I'm just annoyed by what people seem to think what like new or very good condition means.

I have also noticed that Xbox owners really didn't take care of their shit. So many used Xbox games are just in absolute terrible condition. It's really quite striking.

Then you go take a look at the Gamecube games for sale and most of them are in infinitely better condition. Disappointing.

This is so true, heck I experienced it with some games.=O

When I was buying a bunch of games for the xbox every time I ordered online they'd be described as near mint and when they'd arrive completely scratched. Eventually I just started going local only and doing my hunting at pawn shops where you can see it first,

I paid good money for this Dynex!
the worst is when the condition is fine, but it gets fucked up in shipping because the seller is an ass who cannot package for shit

Man, that happened to me a couple months ago. Some company's automatic price adjuster thing on Amazon went overboard, and priced a sealed copy of Grandia II at like $15. I bought it. Dumbass shipped it in an unpadded envelope.

It did not make me happy.

I went back to my lovely PAL xbox this weekend and re-softmodded it. Now I have it running as an NTSC console with XBMC4XBOX 3.3 @ 720p with 480p gaming enabled. Outrun 2006 and Street Fighter III at 480p is sooooo goooooooodddd...

I just wish this thing had 128mb RAM.. Not being able to watch HD content on it is sad..

Stupid question but is there any way that I can do this with a non-modded Xbox (modchip installed)? The 480i output on the OG PAL Xbox makes games borderline unplayable for me. It's like one giant vaseline smear. By comparison, the PS2 looks great running via component.

Yes, it's called softmodding, you don't need a chip. You need;

a) Microsoft Component HD cable
b) Action Replay for XBOX
c) Splinter Cell or Mechwarrior 3 game
d) Krazie N-dure Heimdall updated softmod installer
e) Enigmah region switcher app
f) XBMC 3.0+

1. You download softmod installer as a savegame for Splinter Cell or Mechwarrior 3
2. You transfer save game to your XBOX profile using the Action Replay
3. You launch the game, load the save, install the softmod
4. You now have a modded XBOX with every feature of a modchip.
5. You FTP XBMC and Enigmah onto your XBOX
6. You run Enigmah and switch your XBOX to an NTSC-M
7. You run XBMC and enable 480p and 720p

Done.

If you cant find an xbox action replay an adapter cable for the xbox controller should expose the memory card slot as a usb device allowing you to use the action replay software to transfer things over.

Some people have modded it, apparently its really risky though.

Just a heads-up, you'll need Windows XP for the software to work, IIRC

This thread is great. I had so many great times on my Xbox--it really pulled me back into gaming. After the Genesis I was in college and roommates had Playstations & PS2s so I just played them but never bought either. I decided to jump back in with the OG Xbox and it was amazing. LAN & Xbconnect Halo, then the Live beta & launch, original Ghost Recon, Mechassault & Crimson Skies online were incredible. I also bought my first surround sound system specifically for playing games and it blew me away how much it added to the experience.

I found my Xbox at my parents house the other day, brought it home, dusted it off, and hooked it up. Still works like a charm but I didn't have any games. Went to the mom & pop game store near my job and grabbed Mechassault & Crimson Skies. Still fantastic after all these years. It's a shame MS hasn't done anything with them since.

Been picking up a bunch of OG Xbox games at work. I'm still itching to try out Steel Battalion--I just need to go home and get my console. The controller is taking up so much space!

One question: are NTSC (J or US) OG Xbox games playable on PAL Xbox 360, if present in the compatibility list?
Edit: My bad, I see in the WIkipedia article that "cross-region compatibility is not guaranteed".

Hey guys, just got my Xbox and JSRF in the mail! A quick question, though.

It works perfectly, but when I try to play JSRF in 480p, the picture is screwed up. I can't play unless I turn off all HD options, which is really disappointing. I have component cables and they got decent reviews on Amazon, but could they be the problem? Or is it my TV?

Here is my TV:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BB0ZTJA/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Here is the cable I bought:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E61G4O/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Oh, and another thing! When I was hooking everything up, it felt like neither the component cable nor the power cable were really "snug" in the Xbox, but I didn't want to force it, you know? Is this how it's supposed to feel? Sorry for all the questions, I just really need some help!

EDIT: Just read that 1.6 Xboxes scramble the 480p signal in JSRF, Panzer Dragoon, and GunValkyrie. I guess I have a 1.6 lol. I did, however, read that the JSRF/Sega GT combo disc will work because of a .ini file on the disc that fixes the issue. I hope this information is correct.

I was bored, so I randomly started playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 again a few days ago. I've probably played through it another 7 or 8 times as a result.

This game just does not stop being good.

You can also softmod it and force proper 480p.

How would you go about doing that? Not sure if it's allowed on the forum, but if you could let me know, please PM me. I'm not sure how much I'm missing out on, but I'd like to play in 480p if possible.
It's really depressing that I got the 1.6, but I only paid $120 for it and it was factory sealed...

Well, I went out and bought the JSRF/Sega GT combo disc so I could try JSRF in 480p without the picture being scrambled and I literally don't see a difference. I'm not really upset or anything because I didn't have component cables as a kid and that's already a step up from how I used to play it.

I literally don't see a difference.
Do you mean that it's clearly still sending an interlaced signal, or that you simply don't notice the difference?

If you're using a modern flat panel with decent deinterlacing capabilities, the differences might be of the "subtle" sort.

Does your TV allow you to view the type of signal that's being received?

I'm not sure what you mean... So I own the 1.6 Xbox and copies of both the standalone JSRF and the JSRF/Sega GT combo. Of course, the standalone has a garbled signal when I set my Xbox to 480p, but runs fine without it in 480i. However, I've gone back and forth setting the 480p on and off for the JSRF in the combo disc and the only thing I've noticed that is any different is that the black is blacker during the graffiti warning. I don't know if that's what you mean by "subtle" difference.

Basically, the characters and environments all look exactly the same, from what I can tell. I got a friend to look and he thought that there was "fog" or something with 480p off, but I'm pretty sure what he saw was the glare from the sun because I was facing it. I might get another friend's opinion, but so far all we've noticed is that the black during the intro where it displays AdX and the graffiti warning is blacker than with 480i.

Interesting. That's not really what I meant, but it could indicate that a different signal type is reaching your TV (and being processed differently, etc).

If you're looking for differences in image clarity, you're not going to find much by looking at static images. Interlaced signals are usually put through a slight blurry "flicker filter"; this is to cut down on high-frequency details that could cause flicker if the signal is displayed back on a natively interlaced display. Aside from this difference in filtering, for scenes that aren't in motion, an interlaced image and a progressive image should look identical. If you aren't moving around and doing things, you might be able to spot that the interlaced image is a bit softer (depending on what you're sensitive to), but they won't likely look much different.
You're going to want to compare cases with significant on-screen movement.

The best test would be if you could find a spot where a character is locked into a glitchy twitchy movement where they jump back and forth between two locations/orientations between frames; interlaced signals have a horrible time with that sort of thing, even in 60fps games, and your TV would likely look very different in a progressive case versus an interlaced case.

Seriously though, see if your TV can just tell you what kind of signal it's receiving. Sometimes the remote will have some sort of "info" button or something that will bring up the signal characteristics for the current input.
