No, He's shown cremating coffins with Miller standing next to him. He has Diamond Dogs logo already before he saves Miller.
All the bodies could be from the opening scene/bloody face stuff. I really don't think they've gone and dredged up all their soldiers from the bottom of the Caribbean.

Ah yeah, I guess that makes more sense.

I always thought it was just lazy design - why should Big Boss's base foreshadow Big Shell?

I think accusing Kojima of lazy design is a bit unfair. I think they explicitly chose it to mimic the Big Shell. Why exactly? I'm not sure. I think it was mentioned in MGS4, but the Patriot AI repeat themselves. Because they are AI they can't think of anything original so they consistently reuse the same ideas hence the endless cycle of MGS games hitting similar milestones: One Snake and One Boss etc. (MGS2 is the best case in point).

I know that was also meant as a meta-dig at the series and Kojima's frustrations with it, but it is brought up as a specific narrative point.

The main thing throwing me off is that it just seems weird that they'd still have all the ashes of the guys who died in Skullface's attack lying around nine years later. I can't imagine Big Boss wakes from his coma, rescues Kaz in Afghanistan, then gathers everyone up at Mother Base for a big memorial ceremony, y'know? Even if Mother Base wasn't totally destroyed, you'd have to think it'd be too dangerous to go back to now that all Snake's enemies know where it is and it doesn't have a Metal Gear to protect it any more.

1. BB wakes from his coma
2. rescues Kaz in Afghanistan
3. Kaz is angry as fuck and wants revenge, so they start to recruit soldiers and their comrades die
4. that memorial ceremony is for those lost comrades and i believe the ashes Big Boss smears over his face is from a very important person

Kaz: "We pull in money, recruits, just to combat Cipher. Rubbing our noses in bloody battlefield dirt. All for revenge."

Not liking the music to the video, hell even a 80's themed track like something from Far Cry: Blood Dragon would have been more suitable...as it is set in 1984

Sadly, like 80% of casual gamers like gory, realistic and ultra violent video games so Hideo probably tried to make this appeal to the mainstream gamer more. I like the fact that MGS didn't necessarily take itself so serious at times, but I can hear the crazy casuals thinking that certain elements of the old games are rather silly now.

The older games are silly though. great gameplay, very fun games but the ridiculous character names and dialogue, terrible melodramatic scipts and god awful voice acting.

It doesn't stop the games being fun but i'd much rather a more serious and 'professional' tone with the modern games.

How can people get hyped from CGI trailers? Gameplay or bust! Also, that Kojima guy sure likes his name a lot. Writes it everywhere.

Haha, MGS to my knowledge doesn't use CGI. Besides, other games love to use CGI trailers which typically surpass how the final product looks. I have confidence that MGSFP will look very close to this trailer.

Actually, I do not mind a more serious MGS game at all. I take a not so serious one or a serious one. I must admit, I like to see how he handles the much more serious tone though. I think he will do fine.

In the English trailer, the 'Venom Awakens' screen comes right after Big Boss says 'We are Diamond Dogs' and right before BB and Skull Face climb out of the Jeep in front of that Metal Gear. Maybe it's the name of the Metal Gear? Maybe it's just the metaphorical 'venom' that is Big Boss' rising anger ('cos he's a Snake geddit?). V for MGS5, V for Vic Boss. Kojima does love stretching his symbolism as far as possible :p

while it isn't really an impressive-looking game from technical point of view, the lighting and art-direction make up for it quite a bit--it actually looks pretty damn gorgeous.

Mother Base was selected because of its remote location. They wanted to create an army without borders so they couldnt establish the HQ in any nation.
So creating it in a place which isn't part of any nation, makes you a nation of your own.

I am pretty sure that there is a place like that in real world. A guy bought a platform that wasn't inside the borders of any nation and he was able to establish his own.

And combined with "I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. I will always be with you.", I don't think he's just talking about just anyone here.

Exactly, pretty sure he says that line during this scene.

So, I don't know. Big Boss still has an MSF patch on his shoulder during the ash-smearing scene, so I imagine that's the point where he abandons MSF and decides to start up Diamond Dogs. But then all the Diamond Dogs training scenes (you can tell by everyone wearing Diamond Dogs insignia) are set on that same oil rig. Maybe it's like a Forward Operating Base for Outer Heaven? Maybe this just is Outer Heaven?

Hi, in the burial at sea scene Big Boss is wearing the MSF insignia on his right shoulder, and the Diamond Dogs insignia on his left, much as how he used to wear the FOX and MSF insignias together despite at that time only being a member of the former, and in the same way that Meryl wore the Foxhound insignia long after it's disbandment.

I imagine Big Boss will sport the Diamond Dogs and MSF insignias together through most of the game, right up until Diamond Dogs gets blown the fuck up and Outer Heaven finds it's home in Africa.

If you need help peicing the scenes together, keep in mind that:
---That scene of a massacre with Big Boss covered in blood and any scene involving the african boy probably take place in at least the second half of the game, since it seems Africa is the second open world area after Afghanistan.
--The scene where DD's soldiers are acting like zombies most likely takes place towards the end of the game because if Big Boss is wontonly shooting his own men then Diamond Dogs is probably falling apart/in shambles at that point.
---Maybe the cremation/burial scenes take place after this event, and whatever causes them to become zombified (Psycho Mantis???) is how those soldiers died in the first place.
---the segments involving Eli/Liquid most likely take place earlier in the game since Liquid is already known to have spent his youth in Afghanistan.

Hope this helps. I'll edit this trailer in with my old MGSV Chronological Megatrailer shortly, I'm just waiting to see if there's an extended version.

A bit of restraint in musical form to juxtapose the already melodramatic content of the trailer would've been nice. Instead we get embarrassingly earnest lyrics sung in such an overwrought way that it makes the skin crawl. It's just overkill through and through. Someone needs to tell Kojima that a little nuance can go a long way.

Metal Gear is Opera. There's no room for subtlety.
