Amazing-looking video game is shown for the first time, teasing the game world, gameplay and art design.

People quarrel over the gender of a character.

Come on, you're better than this, aren't you GAF?

I have no idea where people are getting that Link is going to be a girl now and if she was made into a girl so what? female characters are awesome.

no.
I am sick of people wanting link to be a girl, go fap at something else.

just asking if there's official confirmation. She obviously looks like a girl, but you never know. Isn't Link like an incarnation that happens from time to time? There's no rule that says he/she has to be a girl/guy.

Am I the only one who wouldn't be upset if you don't get the green tunic? The current design is awesome, keep the cloak, it's badass.

Can't wait for the inevitable "How long does it take to move across the map by running?" video.

Probably. :p

Seriously though, there's ONE constant in the entire series. MOTHERF***ING GREEN TUNIC!

It's clearly the beginning of the game, before the sword and tunic.

But after Link has gained bow and arrow, bombs, and Epona!

I'm not saying Link is or isn't a girl this time... but there are 2 things we aren't 100% sure of in this trailer...

1: We don't know if who was shown was actually Link, or just a Link-a-like

2: If that is Link, we can not be sure of the gender.

so do you care because its a tale as old as time, like you insinuated before, or because you dont want link to be a girl
Link is a "new character" nearly every game
theres nothing wrong with Link being reincarnated as a girl because reincarnation works like that sometimes

Link is an established character over the years. He's been this way, it's the character I know and love and I don't want him to change. There's also nothing wrong with him being reincarnated as a boy yet again.

Yet in this reveal he wasn't wearing green, didn't have a sword, and we aren't sure if he's a guy.

Neither does he at the beginning of many Zelda games. To mention a few: Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Spirit Tracks, and on Minish Cap he starts without a hat.

You don't know what his role in this universe is that could explain him having a bow.

The high res pic of him aiming is definitely a guy.

This female talk would never had happened if we didn't have that thread with Damiani's list. Yes, he looks a bit feminine but it's a game from Japan and because anime. The only thing I need to know now are the controls.

It is so good I can't believe it won't get a downgrade. Looks more a wonderful cineamtic than a real gameplay but after seeing what Nintendo did with Wind Waker in 2002 i can almost be confident

zzz this is like the same weird argument people use when they say "oh spiderman is a white guy!"

There's nothing else to talk about. The "trailer" showed nothing about the game other than it was open world, which we all knew from Aonuma's previous comments. A slide show would have conveyed the same info.

Perhaps Link is still 'Link' in this game, but they're using his more ambiguous features from designs of past to make the player character not be gender specific. RPG like the Zelda series was intended to be.

The amount of Link is a girl posts is pretty damned staggering. I can't tell if it's a thirst for that kind of character reversal or just trolling at this point.

Personally, I don't think they are going to flip the script that much.

My money is on Dude-Link.

Just want to point out that on nintendos e3 page the release date is still TBA whereas the dates for all other games from the event were filled in

There is no way in hell this will be ready for 2015

It' called fantasy guys!

Elven themed characters are typically more feminine, and with that in mind Link still looks very male to me!.

The clip was incredible, better than I was expecting and my expectations were high.
And open world :O.

It would be a real sign of the Zelda franchise losing it's fetters if Link is indeed a frau, but nothing points to that with what we seen now and the history.

That said this game is indeed looking great.

Which Link is the Link you love?

How much did these changes bother you?

You do realize your avatar is straight up anime style right? Anime can be any animation from Japan. I'm not sure what you people are thinking. Do you equate all anime with DBZ and Sailor Moon or something?

And the anime this game looks most similar to is Miyazaki's masterpiece "Princess Mononoke". One of the best animated films ever, but I'm guessing people with an irrational hatred of anime will never give it a chance.

There's no way I'm getting out of this year without a Wii U. Sure I could wait until this launches, but might as well plan ahead. This looks phenomenal.

Why oh why would anyone think Link = a girl. I don't see anything that would suggest that.

Check Zelda's waist when she hops off the horse. You can briefly see a prominent non-male chest and hips. And when she releases her arrow and stops squinting, the feminine features in her eyes are very apparent.

Link will almost certainly remain a boy in this game, but I do find it suspicious that they made a point of cloaking him and then doing a reveal. Of course, this looks like it is pretty early in the game so maybe there is a plot reason for that.

I find it disturbing how many people apparently feel threatened by the idea of a girl Link, though. I would welcome it.

Stocky?
Link?

Wut?
He's always been relatively short (the male npcs are almost always taller than him) and skinny.

I don't mean in a body fat percentage sense, I meant in terms of musculature. Look at the concept arts and pay attention to the thickness of his torso, or how long his legs (or rather, how short) are in comparison to the rest of his body. Compared to this iteration of Link, past Links are not nearly as lithe in form.

I would not be upset at all. I am very supportive of the "shaking things up" approach to this game's development. I would not be surprised or angry at all if Link doesn't wear the traditional tunic in this game. It just makes me wanna know more about what they're shaking up. Would be pretty sweet to see them add a fake language ala Ico or something and actual VA. It just remains to be seen.

Mario, Bowser, Master Chief, Nathan Drake, etc are all actual set characters. Link is not. Link is many characters. Link is a placeholder for the player. Link is a legacy. Link being a girl one generation is not the same as Mario becoming a girl, because Link could be anybody whilst Mario is Mario.

I respectfully disagree. Lore wise, yes, it's different Links, but branding wise Link is Link. He's a male, he has green clothes at one point or another, and he has a sword. If I show someone a picture of Link, it will be a guy (probably) wearing green clothes who has a sword.

To me, Link is a guy. Zelda is a girl.

I DO like the idea (and thought of) the person in the trailer being Zelda and I DO like the idea of being able to play as her, but I DON'T like the idea of switching around their sexes just for the sake of doing so.

Again, if Nintendo is wanting to create a strong female heroine, why not create a new IP? Like I said before, I think it's great if they want to appeal to a larger demographic. I don't think messing with established characters and IPs is the right way to do so.

Art style may have changed, but all of these Link's are still males who wear green clothes (outside of the OOT one, and we all know he wears green in that) with swords. Art style may have changed, but the traits that make Link Link didn't. It's because of these that they can switch around the art and we can immediately look at Link and say "yep, that's Link".
