Yeah. "Link"'s got a bit of a feminine twist this time around. Maybe there's a role reversal now~! Using a bow after all! LEGEND OF ZELDA, save prince Link!

I am also fine if Link is a girl. Then Link can become a whole diverse set of possibilities for the future too and screw you sobbers lol.

This Link has to be female. Just by looking at the animation of her on Epona and the way she carries herself. More of the weight is on her hips, she has narrower shoulders, a thinner neck, a curvier body. This Link is definitely a girl.

The cell-shaded look is doing wonders for the visual presentation!

Right up there with The Order and Drive Club in terms of visuals.

Absolutely gorgeous.

it's amazing that the only argument against Link being a girl is 'because Zelda has always done it like this, and so it shall remain, ever unchanging'

This is the fucking Twilight Zone.

Again, these characters aren't real, for one. On top of that, their sex has never been integral to their stories or their personas.

Making this incarnation of Link a girl wouldn't be "innacurate" because Link isn't real and it could be justified in any number of ways. It's a made up story.

Wait, Link isn't real? -_-

Of course they can do whatever they want. It seems to pretty much boil down to some people seeing the Zelda franchise as Skyrim like avatars that are completely customizable, and some seeing them as actual characters.

I guess I see them as characters.

Again, they do can do whatever because it's a new "world" everytime, but I would personally annoyed if:

- Ganon was a light skinned, short, fat blond, girl who didn't use a sword.
- Zelda was boy who looked nothing like previous Zeldas
- Impa was some big dude sterotypical dunce bodyguard or something

They're different characters or reincarnations everytime so technically all of these are "okay".

It'd still annoy me though.

Again, if Nintendo is wanting to create a strong female heroine, why not create a new IP? Like I said before, I think it's great if they want to appeal to a larger demographic. I don't think messing with established characters and IPs is the right way to do so.

Metroid exists, ya know...

Sigh.

I actually think you're on to something. I don't see a sword hilt anywhere.

I never thought he looked like a girl there, but now I want it to actually happen cuz of all these reactions. lol

Most gorgeous looking zelda game I've ever seen. I can't fathom a better artstyle. As someone mentioned before it's like Princess Mononoke. With just a dash of Lord of the Rings maybe.

Maturity, bitches.
Aonuma mentions they were using The Legend of Zelda as inspiration, and the title card said the Legend of Zelda. Have we ever gotten a reveal without a subtitle that wasn't a tech demo?
Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, don't actually think it was the case with Skyward Sword though, were all revealed as just the Legend of Zelda and got their subtitle later.

I would not be upset at all. I am very supportive of the "shaking things up" approach to this game's development. I would not be surprised or angry at all if Link doesn't wear the traditional tunic in this game. It just makes me wanna know more about what they're shaking up. Would be pretty sweet to see them add a fake language ala Ico or something and actual VA. It just remains to be seen.

I still like the traditional green clothes, but I admit I preferred the crawfish pyjamas on Wind Waker.

Because it would be neat to see a strong female heroine in this series.

I do not give one single fuck if Link is male or female, just give me the fucking game PRONTO

If Link is a girl (which I don't really see, but anyway), does that mean Zelda could be swapping genders as well? A Prince Zelda?

Would certainly be interesting if that were the case, and not something I was expecting.

But yeah, still think Link looks male here.

Sigh.

Tell Nintendo that.

I think the problem with Metroid is that at this point, they've sexualized Samus a bit too much. Link's a male, but he's not really the hyper masculine male usually found in video games (see: the gears of war guys).

I think a female character in the same vein would be nice, one that can save the world but isn't hyper sexualized.

Okay, but why not have Link be a girl? They can still be like past Links, but just as a girl. There's no good reason not to, especially with this reincarnated character.

There's been no good reason why people are so averse to Link being a girl. No one has provided any good reasons beyond "that's just the way it's been!"

They should just keep making Ocarina of Time clones to appease these people. Why would we ever want something new in videogames.

E3? I watch it to make sure that videogames have not changed, not to see something new.

Link's always been an ambiguous little dude. I'm totes cool with Link being a girl in this one (though I doubt it's true), but either way his or her gender has never had a bearing on the story. I actually really like the way he appears in this one, though.

It's the eyelashes combined with the surprisingly delicate features. Past "adult" Link incarnations (OoT, TP, SS) have always been somewhat stocky and muscular (relatively lacking in height, somewhat broad torso, with short legs thick enough to dropkick Gorons). Still, male or female, if the game looks promising enough, I might just get a Wii U.

I don't know. The hair is noticeably different, especially the length of certain parts, and the face overall, especially once he/she lets the arrow fly, just outright looks like a girl.

Wind Waker was pretty fluid in animation and combat compared to games before and since. not to mention you could steal enemy weapons, which was wonderful

WW gave the impression of being more fluid because of all the cel shading and bouncy toon effects, but Link still felt as stiff as usual most of the time. His lock-on strafing animations in particular have always been an eyesore to me. I think a little bit of that Prince of Persia or Team ICO style weight being implemented in Zelda would be a great thing. Really I just hope they can match the clip they've shown here in actual gameplay.

And so much arguing about Link's gender.......I think a much more important issue is making sure they keep the outfit in the trailer throughout the game.

People may say that, but what I got from complaints is that this link is more anime and anime means more feminine (according to commenters standards?) and I don't want to play as a girl character in the next Zelda...

Am I taking it too far? Probably, I don't know, but looking at the gaming populace reaction to several different topics lately I've started to realize that there is much more prejudice and bias than I was aware of before.

Link is actually Zelda disguised as the hero of time? :O

Twist?!

Anyway, did want the realistic Zelda from the first Wii U demo, ain't gonna lie. But...I'm also cool with this!

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
I love how everyone ignores samus. Is it because she's in armor that doesn't show cleavage? You can't have it both ways. She the baddest and non girly video heroine that I can think of.

So, I'm not sure why the gender thing is what's getting the most focus, but here's my two cents :\

Link's not a girl this time around, if that was supposed to be the big shocking reveal of the trailer then it would have been made completely clear instead of vague.

That being said, there's no reason at all Link couldn't be a girl in the future, or that Zelda couldn't get her own game, both of those things sound awesome.
