The Legend of Zelda Wii-U Shown at Nintendo Digital Event ["2015"]

They've constantly talked about breaking series conventions with this game. Why are so many people afraid of having a female Link?

Nobody is "afraid". There's literally nothing to go on. There is no reason to assume Link is a girl. Cuz guys never have ponytails, and japanese-designed characters are never androgynous. Link has never had long hair or soft facial features.

It's just baffling

Damn isn't she cute?

damn linkette looks really cute

Aw shit, I just did a Google image search for "female Link"

you guys are batshit insane!

don't know why I'd expect different from the Zelda fanbase though

Parts of the Zelda fan base are incredibly weird.
Apparently Zelda hasn't been Zelda since the first archaic entry in the franchise. :p
Also the Zelda series has apparently been going down hill even though it's been critically acclaimed for over 22 years.
:/

Edit: I understand that these are opinions and everyone has the right to have their own, but the vocal minority gets ridiculous sometimes.

I always thought Link looked like, well, Link. But all this talk about gender-bending really made me think Link was female this time. Oh you guys!

I wouldn't mind that though, but only if it added to the story or the gameplay somehow. Other than that, there's no point; it would just be a Mrs. He.

It's not that, if that was Zelda I'm cool with that(it's not). But Link is Link, who is male, that's just the way it is. Mario won't suddenly become female tomorrow,

Mario isn't a different person in each game. Link is. This Link could be a female. It's a different person each time. How many times does this need to be explained?

For the record, I'd be completely OK with Link being a girl in this installment, but honestly, I don't see it.

Link has always been effeminate.

Its. A. Photoshop.

Again, to all the people saying it looks like Zelda. Here is Link from the SNES days.

The hair, the face, the clothes. It's Link 100%. Why are people projecting some desire to have Link become Zelda onto this character? I seriously cannot fathom it If you played as Zelda it would look like Zelda. And he is obviously still a "he".

I literally cannot understand some of these reactions.

Actually, that's from the GBA version of A link to the Past

This is the SNES artwork.

And as for the graphic style, this is what I've wanted since I first saw the artwork in the instruction manual for A link to the Past.

So let's move on from the crazy gender discussion

Which timeline do you guys think this will be in. Personally guessing child timeline, last game we got there was TP and this Hyrule looks like the type in OoT and TP.

Although it might end up being Unified or fallen hero, who knows

I completely realize the timeline discussion is just as nuts, but I prefer it anyways

I loved the cel shaded style of Wind Waker, and now I am very happy that Nintendo is also doing the same thing to The Legend Of Zelda Wii U! Nintendo wins E3 just because of TLOZ!

Oooo, this is gonna get some usage.
Yup. I love how the shopped shots appeared several pages ago and folks just arriving to the last page are falling for it.

Check those Gerudo bracers, guys. The Gerudo are known for the extreme rarity of a male member in their tribe (futanari fanart aside). Assuming the Hyrule shown here is consistent with the lore, the Gerudo are still around, leaving open the possibility that this Link, what with his or her clothing brandishing the Gerudo patterns, might well be the adopted son of the tribe. Or the adopted daughter, perhaps; this isn't a guaranteed scenario, but I like the ambiguity of what's shown from this little clip. The developers are clearly building hype by making Link just that tad bit more androgynous! Miyamoto's stance on Link isn't that he's necessarily a character, but a reflection of the player audience itself. Zelda's become a universally accepted staple of action-adventure gaming, so maybe Aonuma's going to let players decide for themselves which gender Link will have. How that might affect game structure and certain mechanics (i.e. how Link's gender might affect the players' opportunities and ways to interact with Hyrulian society), I don't know.

Point is, this game looks like it's going to be more lenient with character creation than previous Zeldas, and I'm all up for that. Having your previous accomplishments and important decisions show up with consequences on your appearance and status in the game world would be a big step-up for the franchise. It would add important replay value, of all things, and would communicate to all players that any choice is a valid one, so long as it provides challenge in return.

Exactly, there's a story here and I don't think turning link female, or giving an option for it is acceptable. If link was female from the very start it would be a different story. The idea being thrown around like this almost creeps me out.

I wouldn't mind it if this was just a reboot of the series altogether instead of being forced to adhere to a timeline. New era for the franchise after all.

They already said it was in-engine. Nintendo's never lied about that shit. A game on this scale was possible on the Wii, evidenced by Xenoblade. Wouldn't surprise me if Monolith shared some of their secrets with Nintendo.

Judging by a lot of peoples' response to the Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer for Wii U, I wouldn't be so sure.

Plus, in-engine doesn't mean much.

If this was Zelda, as some are suggesting, why would they make her look more like a feminine Link than Zelda? While these characters certainly change from game to game, you can always recognize them. Also, why zero boobs? SS Zelda certainly has them. No, that theory is rather ridiculous IMO. I also don't think it's a female Link. Feels like too drastic a step for Nintendo to take with one of their most iconic characters. And if it was a female Link, why not made that more clear? This looks like a feminine teenage boy, not a girl. Again, zero boobs, etc.
