Achieve this level of quality in an actual game play scenario with shit happening and AI and I will be even more impressed.

That's just nuts. The PS4's a beast.

Speaking of this, where was Quantic Dream at E3? Still too soon after BeyondTS to show anything? It'll be between them and Naughty Dog to see who pushes the PS4 the hardest in terms of photorealism I reckon.

Who knows. Sony is coasting the wave right now since they really don't have to announce anything. Pretty sure there's still 15 or so announced titles in the works.

TGS and Gamescom should have some bommaz too. Honestly, with Japan's move away from consoles, saving TLG for TGS might be a smart move and why we got the shaft again. Got to get them to buy in somehow.

Would be insane if true.

EDIT: Okay, thats insane.

I'm still a little sceptical. That looks amazing, and far, far beyond anything we've seen on either console so far. It will be mind blowing if ND can reach that level of visual fidelity, in game, at 60fps. Other devs must be weeping at the prospect of how they can possibly keep up.

Considering that gameplay in previous UC games were very close to the cutscene graphics, this is gonna be amazing to look at when playing.

Why does it need to be? The camera will be further away for gameplay.

with this logic, what if i walk next to a wall to zoom his face in? I'm not denying Drake will have various levels of detail, but at point blank range he should have the same fidelity as the trailer.

I expect it will look fairly close to that. I have a feeling it wil be like the Last of Us where cutscenes have additional post processing effects and AA added while actual gameplay takes a bit of a hit on the image quality. The scene shown during E3 was not actual gameplay with AI running around everyone e so I do expect a bit of a downgrade but not by a whole lot.

I just watched the Gamersyde video. 60 fps and that fidelity.

Holy mother of fuck. There aren't even PC games out there with that amount of facial detail and fidelity.

You can remove console from that even then it would be true.

weirdly the colour corrected version made it more believable for me

[edit] when you take into account that this is what an in-game, open-world, third person character model from a series that has never exactly been famed for the quality of their face modelling is like, now:

then drake at 1080p60, from a studio known for the quality of their characters, suddenly seems very plausible to me

Could you imagine them making these claims and then having them not be true? Do you really think ND would even come close to setting themselves up for something like that?

One thing to note is that iirc, ND have always used the SAME model for cinematics and real time gameplay for all their games last gen. The lighting and aliasing were the two prime aspects that were improved for the cutscenes.

I don't think that's ever even been claimed. The shift was obvious to the discerning eye. It was clever, and the way they handled loading during those segments was great, but both detail and effects like motion blur clearly changed scene-to-scene for gameplay, real-time segments and pre-rendered segments.

Nope..I've been told that PS4 development will remain stagnent while only DX12 developed games could possibly show this level of visual fidelity...

I'm really impressed with the facial animations. Normally I get the uncanny valley with these closer to real life looking models.

But here for some reason, none of that. It's very good.

Wow, I thought that was in engine but pre rendered for sure. ND and Kojima Productions putting everyone to shame! "60 fps is so hard." Shut up and take notice.

Yes that was harsh.

I am trying i really am trying and i want to believe that this is true, but then i look at drake's model, and i just cant...

Its impossible... Look at his hair, even his eyebrows have small drops of water... The AA... I mean its insane...!

Couple that with 1080p and 60 (SIXTY!!) fps... and I just cant fathom how this is thr kind of graphic fidelity i will be controlling when i pick this game up.

I hold ND to the top of developers but this is just unbelievably insane to be true...

I want to believe, but i guess i just cant at the moment!

Maybe this has something to with the updated SDK Cort was talking about?
Since ICE Team is housed within ND itself, not sure about either way it's rather crazy to start off a new generation like this and loving every second of it :D

That would probably help as well, since ICE's main purpose is getting the most out the Sony consoles and they will probably continue to improve and/or optimize stuff like api calls and the sdks in general throughout the hardwares lifetime, having those guys around the corner will probably enable you some shortcuts and tricks

What have other devs been doing? Are Naughty Dog really this far ahead of everyone else?

Kind of reposting from the other UC4 thread but other developers have either been making crossgen games that have to run on PS3 and 360 or 1st party developers trying to make launch deadlines and developing for a moving target. Proper current gen games, especially from 1st party studios, are going to blow away what we've seen until now.

I look at open world games like AC: Unity, The Division, and Batman: Arkham Knight and this isn't really hard to believe for a linear game developed for 1 console by one of the more gifted studios in the world.

Even if they fall short of this fidelity at those stats, what they come up with will be near the top-tier of what's out there when they release. I think that's a reasonable assumption. Them having this running real-time is a good start, even if busier scenes require some concessions. Art and artistry can thankfully account for a lot of shortcomings in technology.

But it's already on a standalone PS4? So is this part already at 60fps and they're trying to get others to 60fps?

It's a cutscene with not a whole lot going on so it's going to run relatively smoothly. Their goal is to get the whole game to run like that even when shit is getting real.

The fact that it doesn't appear to drop at all when the camera pans out to the long shot of the mountain is a very good sign.

Watching the gamersyde video I think I noticed a tiny frame dip here and there when the camera pans out from Drake's face and he's getting up, but I'm just eyeballing it. Would be awesome if DF could do an in-depth analysis of the trailer.

I made a key correction hence; I think it has to do with the poly count.

Not that it means too much but a friend I talk to at Ubisoft also said:

Just for some more confirmation. This is nuts.

Sounds like the aqueducts of Rome.

That would be great news if all cut-scenes are indeed real-time in the final game, but I know nothing about that Beyond3D poster.

The image quality however in the trailer is complete bollocks.

Yeah, now about all those doubters who were giving me shit? LOL. It seems people have lost their grasp on their own cynicism. Don't let it eat you.

I want to believe but I don't believe it...
Has a game looked that good in-game ever on PC?

Sure, particularly if you're including mods too. But being able to run it at 1080p/60fps on a system close to the price of the PS4? Lol no.

Absolutely crazy what ND will be achieving if they get this level of fidelity at 1080p/60. Heck, even at 1080/30 it'll be pretty crazy, and this is only their first real next-gen game (not counting TLOU). We're in for a pretty console generation.

Isn't it a bit weird though still that they chose "Captured directly from a PS4" as their wording over "realtime" or "in game"? I mean realtime sounds a LOT more impressive and their wording was vague
