Not that it means too much but a friend I talk to at Ubisoft also said:

Just for some more confirmation. This is nuts.

True coding geniuses. I have a feeling sdk was upgraded and maybe ram?

Threw this together real quick. Tried to make sure each image was from a cutscene to make it a fair comparison, showing what Nate looked like in previous games cutscenes. Not the best quality on some of the images, but it was just a quick google search - so I'm sure it gets the point across just fine.

He's definitely aged a good bit.

I remember the first Uncharted looking so much better lol. Amazing the difference when you compare them like that.

you do understand what real time is right?

Yes. And in this case, the PS4 being used was rendering that in-engine cutscene in real-time. It was not a pre-rendered video in any way, shape or form. "Real-time" does not necessarily mean in-game playable elements.

It's over, period. Microsoft lost their last ace, and that's the end of their Xbox One showing graphics parity hopes and dreams.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for Xbox One. Microsoft has nothing left, nothing they can reveal this week that would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a Xbox One. Except if they want to play Titanfall. Which will also come to PS4 at some point.

The age of Microsoft is done.

To be honest I would be completely floored if they had said this was running in 900P/30FPS on PS4 or something like that.

The fact that they're claiming 1080/60...wow...even if they don't hit their FPS goal this would still be insanely fucking impressive at 30 fps.

This makes me realize Nate is looking old... How old is he now? late thirties?

Ryse might be the best looking next gen game out right now... and it's on Xbox One

Ryse is a 900p game tthat can barely stick to 30 FPS though. I wouldn't put anywhere near what ND is capable of

It's also not the best looking game, that belongs to KZSF or Infamous (I'd say inFamous)

Or with what Tidux was talking about (He's the one who confirmed the "Tropical" setting for the E3 trailer)

Later known to be GPGPU Rendering
Please don't post the BS from Tidux. Most of his tweets have been nothing but vague and he has been wrong plenty of times as well.

Secondly, this is already expected since Team ICE is working on optimizing the SDK. GPGPU can have a huge potential for the PS4. But the difference that I expect to see is in first party exclusives and not third party games.

Damn Nate looks angry this time

I know you are concerned but.....

this is ND we are talking about ;)

LOL. My thoughts exactly. It's nice people are 'concerned' but let's let ND do their thing. It's almost like GASP people thought the best coders only worked on PC or something.

As to Ryse being the best looker it's not really true. KZ looks better than Ryse in many parts to me and Infamous definitely does in parts. And they have a ton more going on. I can't help separate what goes on within a game from my immediate visual outlook.

Basic family/tech of the GPU is along the lines of what you've probably read.

Thing is Sony had them add some changes to the GPU specifically to leverage over it's lifetime. Changes that really only work with a fixed console where they can code specifically to that one GPU and the special changes they made to it. ND is probably writing code in assembly language and binary right down to the metal if their past comments on development continue forward. You get rid of a lot of overhead than using a higher level API thats easier to code to.

So, if you put in the (hard) work, you'll get a lot more out than the other PC GPU's within it's "family" line.

That's the simple explanation. Also why the PC articles telling people how to build a next gen console NOW were kinda missing the forest for the trees.

The only noted "changes" to the PS4 GPU are more command processors (the ACEs) and a bit better tessellator, but those are both due to the fact it is a GCN1.1 part and thus share them in common with the XB1 and GCN1.1 based PC cards and they do not need to be programmed for.

Or with what Tidux was talking about (He's the one who confirmed the "Tropical" setting for the E3 trailer)

Using compute shaders to do some rendering tasks is nothing new.

Uncharted 4 Drake looks like hes had enough of everyones shit.

Well that looks more impressive than any PC game I've ever seen.
So much for master race. PS4 has plenty of qualities worth merit.

Don't get out of your mind now, ND's talent is to thank for the visuals. If ND developed a game with a single 670 in mind it would destroy what the ps4 has to offer. But I do agree that the game visually is outclassing others except Witcher 3 because of Witcher 3's scale and detail.

Guys can you please explain to me what does it mean "real time - in engine"?

I know that in-engine by itself doesn't mean much, cause it suggest that they took the engine and ran it on a much more powerful hardware offline and really pushed it far beyond the PS4 strength and than made it into MKV file and just played it on PS4 as a cut scene that doesn't really run in real time.

But "in -engine, real-time" suggest that the PS4 actually do run it and it wasn't rendered offline, but why they are still putting the term "in engine" in there? why they are not saying just "real time" if the gameplay will actually look like this?

I find it fishy and i still can't believe them sorry, this is just too good to be true, a giant leap above anything we've seen in gaming, I would like someone to explain this to me.

CR Projekt RED and Crytek will always be there to push the envelope. It won't be long until 10 TF cards are on the market and those will rape anything I'll ever see on my PS4. It's great to see the care and expertise of Naughty Dog used to such great effect, but there's only so much you can do to compete with newer and better technology.

Nobody will optimize for 10TF cards. All that power will go to uber res, AA or rendering in VR mode. They will "Brute force the envelope". ND are pioneering new rendering techniques here, no doubt.

I can't even imagine what 2016+ PS4 first party games will look like now...
Also really wanna see that voodoo magic rendering pipeline they have there at ND now. I really hope for a full blown talk/demonstration at GDC this year.

Jesus, man. Take that fanboy stuff outta here.

Never gets old.

Of course not, they are probably going to have very high quality models and other assets specifically for cutscenes while everything in game will have lower quality assets.

SMH.....so you’re saying Naughty Dog is lying? They are saying its in-game, not in-engine, meaning that the footage you saw will seamlessly transfer to controllable gameplay.

Of all of these models I prefer UC4 model the most. It's so much more mature and it gives the vibe of an experienced (but still naive for getting in this shit again lololol) Drake. Being older definitely makes his character more enjoyable. I hope he's to be in his 40s.

This. I hope so too.

Share this black magic with every developer out there. Holy shit. It looks like what I expected late gen 30fps games to look like, not early gen 1080/60.

I think his age through the games was
UC1-26,
UC2 (forgot if it was a year or 2 after the first)27-8
UC3 (few years after 2. Possibly 3) 30-33

Could be completely wrong tho

If they did share all I can see is more devs being lazier than hell or actually doing something with it. No in-between.
