Eiji Aonuma: “No one explicitly said that that was Link.”

Yeah, like I thought. Aonuma just does that. He thinks he's joking but it passes through a translator and is then relayed through text. It doesn't come through and he doesn't get that crazy people are going to hang on every word.

From Aonuma's response, it sounds like they're very much doing something different. But he doesn't want to say exactly what.

I'm not sure it's a female version of Link. But it does sound like something like that might be happening.

With the two quotes together, it's sounding more and more to me like a detailed character creation screen. Basically, design your own Link.

My hopes for it being Zelda are dying.

It was the perfect storm for out-of-control speculation.

And people continue to interpret what he says wrongly. I don't know how much more clear he can be. He said it was Link and referred to Link with the pronoun "him" and said rumours of it being a female character are false.

I mean, you can't be hatin' for something they never promised and never showed, but I would really, really like a LoZ where you just straight up play Zelda. She's baller.

I'm hanging on for a little bit more. This site is no Game Informer or VentureBeat. And the comments sound kind of spot on to deconfirm everything. I remain skeptical of this article. Can someone verify it for me?

Well this is certainly disappointing.

That Link design is very feminine though, beyond typical Link androgenity. But we live in a progressive society today, and I respect Link for who he really is, on the inside.

Guessing there will be a minor redesign as well, a shame since I really liked how this Link was designed

If I'm accurate on these accounts yet the protagonist is still revealed to be male, it would be a testament to Link's androgyny, but Nintendo generally doesn't overlook details like this. This company knows how to make characters attractive to the player, etc., so these are most certainly not details that would simply be overlooked when designing the character.

And there you have your testament to Link's androgyny. I suppose this is the final chapter in "How Legend of Zelda's Design Team Accidentally Convinced Half of the World for Around a Day that Link was a Girl".

It's not. It's (male) Link, he outright said it.

And people continue to interpret what he says wrongly. I don't know how much more clear he can be. He said it was Link and referred to Link with the pronoun "him" and said rumours of it being a female character are false.

Huh? Oh, I didn't see a new quote... i was talking about SolidXSnake's post a couple pages ago I just saw... this page is moving fast, sorry. This quote:
Q: What are your reactions to everyone's reactions to the Zelda Wii U reveal?

Eiji Aonuma: Because I have been at E3, I haven't had much time to spend in doing this research, but I certainly have been checking fan reaction and I am really excited many comments have said how beautiful the game looks. The designers have been working really hard to make sure the visuals look like something players don't expect, or maybe something they haven't seen before, and this applies to not just to the scenery, but to the enemies and things like that.

Another interesting comment I've heard, quite frequently actually, is that, "Oh Link's a woman. Link is female now."

Q: I thought that, too. I thought maybe it was Zelda when I first saw Link on Epona in the distance.

Eiji Aonuma: That might be something that consciously we kind of did, but not to say anything specific – I am not saying anything specific – but, I am hoping people continue to comment, and I will continue to follow the fan comments and reactions to the trailer. I am certainly curious, and I am sure there are things we as developers can glean.

Saw the newer quote. Oh well.

But the original quote from VentureBeat was more reliable? Because it helped confirm your bias?

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Welp, guess I'll just play the next Zelda on my friends WiiU. If I feel like it. At least I'm going to sleep with this dumb news instead of waking up with it. And to think, almost. At least in my head almost.

Yup. Hey, we need multiple sources for this kind of stuff -_-

Also you'd have to hear the original Japanese. "Him" pronouns aren't used a lot in that language, and could be the translator's invention. I'll let it go, guys, but I'm not convinced yet.

Welp, there goes that. Ah well, it's still Link and that's fine with me :3

*continues to read far too much into Aunoma's words anyways*

Well, this is kind of what I expected.

I didn't know the quote in the title of the thread was a joke. But I really didn't assume that the character is female. As it turns out, they were Link and guy.

And a lot of people were spending a lot of time using gender stereotypes and saying that anatomy proved or made it likely or something like that, that Link was a girl. I didn't much care for that.

I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't seem like the new Zelda game will have a playable female character. But I am happy how much Link has challenged people's stereotypes of "male anatomy".

Huh? "Kare" could most definitely be used in that context.

I bet Zelda is just gonna be a damsel this time around. T_T Goodbye strong female Link. You had a good run, led a good life. You'll always be canon in my heart, as long as it isn't weird.
Who the fuck is mmgn
Some community site. I'm willing to believe them on this. They'll get in a shitton of internet trouble if they're lying.

By the way, I forgot about this till just now but I found this photoshop on Tumblr, courtesy goes to whoever the artist is. It's a nice look as to what Link could look like in his tunic. I think the hair was recolored.

I know a lot of people were pretty stoked for a female Link or Zelda, but I for one love how androgynous Link is. Playing as a macho, dark-haired male is overrated.
