My Little Pony FiM Community [OT3] Surely You Saw This Coming

To be fair, that wasn't Seth's call. He reopened it and stated that another admin made the call and he did try to save as many as he could. Even managed to recover my slightly provocative "My Little Pony: Stereotypes Are Magic" comment. Saw Calpain bitching on Twitter though about the posts being reopened.

You delete it all, or you delete nothing. Picking and choosing is a terrible thing to do.

ED having drama? Say it ain't so!
The sarcasm is absolutely pouring from my face!

This entire thing happened pretty much in the background of the day to me. Saw it, didn't pay it too much mind, and everything happened. Didn't even know there was a thread here about it.

It's surprisingly not-terrible for a Pony thread in OT.

I think they're right in that it probably doesn't fit with Hasbro's corporate guidelines, and Ashleigh probably got a talking to.

Tara Strong got a talking to after she posted a provocative pic, and responded to it by being ten times more provocative, so this will probably amount to very little.

Ashleigh Ball might be the #2 voice talent on MLP (best pony and dual singing roles), and has the lead role on LPS, so she's big with Hasbro. I was thinking about it, and Peter Cullen and Frank Welker (Optimus and Megatron from Transformers) might be the only people bigger with Hasbro than Tara and Ashleigh right now, but TF Prime is finished, and Peter and Frank aren't looking like they're going to be in the sequel series, so that makes Ashleigh huge.

Couple years ago? Around the time MLP staff on Twitter became a thing. Tara was one of the first.

She posted sexy Twilight fanart. Internet exploded. Hasbro told her not to do that. She started aggressively trolling, in order to get back at Hasbro.

Fake edit: Found it. 2012.

I thought so too, which was why I was surprised to see the topic closed. It was all pretty civil.

It was an absolute storm in a teacup IMO.

Oh, and for anyone taking issue with the way comments are handled on EQD, consider this another reason to stay away from the comments sections on EQD. It doesn't usually reach Youtube comments levels of awful, but it's still pretty bad.

Oh wow, I wonder what other voice actor related stuff ever happened, I miss these things. I am not the most ingrained in this community.

The OT can't really handle ponies, so it was probably just waiting to explode, and it was kind of a non-issue.

"Minor celebrity endorses gay marriage and congratulates gay people." Yay, I guess?

You're better off, believe me. Find a few pockets of sanity amidst the chaos and stick there.

It seemed to be moving towards quite an interesting discussion of how people should behave in terms of representing/misrepresenting their employer on social media towards the end, so I was a little disappointed to see it cut short. Ah well.

You can see hints of bad times ahead in that thread. Possibly a mod knows better than us of those kinds of signs and locked it before it became a terrible thread.

Fair point. It does usually seem to only be a matter of time.

There's not much to say. Anyone in any company position should have training on it. Those who aren't will find out someday.

That just makes me more interested, its like a safari. An insanity safari! Also
<---- And pokemans and comic books
I'm not too disassociated with crazy stuff, I maybe a bit too deep in other area's already.

Especially now even more than ever, when ya hear things you can't talk about.

Someone should keep a log of crazy stuff!

essentially, I mean I don't care if you post fan fiction on your twitter or whatever.

Little disappointing they went the whole tomboy thing doe. That employer convo that was happening before that thread got locked was interesting.

Gay marraige and congratualting gay people isn't the issue. It's any opinion that can be mistaken as you representing your company.

Well, yes and no. The latter may be the core issue, but it's also true that there likely wouldn't have been as much (or any) controversy had the topic at hand been something other than gay marriage. As I said in the other thread, the show staff on MLP communicate via fanart all the time without any raised eyebrows.

I've seen Mike Vogel, VP of Development at Hasbro Studios make pro gay comments all the time on Twitter. I'd say it's something Hasbro endorses.

Very cute. The show needs more custom mane-styles.

You're still representing the company when you shouldn't.

Yeah, but who cares, really? Anyone stupid enough to assume that something posted on a personal social media account represents the opinions of a company deserves everything they get. If anyone has a problem with Ashleigh Ball the private citizen reposting pony pictures, that's their issue. When Ashleigh Ball the Hasbro-employed actress starts slipping her political views into Littlest Pet Shop dialogue, then there might be something to worry about.

I may be slightly bitter about the constant need to slap disclaimers on everything nowadays. I work in TV advertising, and the number of hoops you're required to jump through to get something on-air these days is utterly ludicrous, and only getting worse. If people would just exercise common sense in their daily lives, we'd all be saved a lot of time.

Yeah this whole outrage just smacks of mountains and molehills to me. If there's a problem, as far as I'm concerned, it's between Ashleigh and Hasbro. I'm just taking it for what it is - a cute and unoffensive pic in support of a cause that is ultimately about basic respect and tolerance (I wouldn't even call it political to be honest).

I'm trying to explain to you the way things work via facts and you're trying to discredit it with opinion.

I understand the principle of what you're saying, but I disagree that:

You're still representing the company when you shouldn't.

...is a fact. It may appear to some that you're representing the company, but that's just one interpretation of events. An incorrect interpretation in many cases, given that intent is vastly more important than appearances, IMO. But I realize that the corporate world rarely shares that view, naturally.

Anyway, I'll stop talking now before I drive the conversation in circles again.

Nobody would notice. Littlest Pet Shop slips assorted political statements in all over the place, so only the writers would know which ones were scripted vs which ones were ad-libbed.

Which is the whole point and why it's not allowed and why it's clearly outtline and simple to follow please stop argueing this, go join a company and take some training on it this isn't something I want to spell out the 2 hour trainings on that you have to re-take yearly or sometimes bi-yearly. The circle is that you can't accept facts.

I work for a company. We don't have any training like that. Here, we operate on common sense rules, i.e. if you're not specifically claiming to speak on behalf of the company, you're not understood to be doing so.

That's all I'm saying. What you're describing is a rule that some companies choose to follow, not some universal law that applies to everyone, everywhere, always. I'm not expecting you to repeat your corporate training to me, and I'm not suggesting you're making stuff up.

Nice covers of "Find the Music in You" and "Art of the Dress"

This reminds me, when "Filli Vanilli" came out, a lot of people were confused when the girls reacted to Fluttershy singing as if it was the first time they ever heard her, and this fan reaction itself confused me because they actually did include an awkward line to explain this that really stuck out to me yet no one else seemed to notice.

Right after the opening credits, Twlight's response to Fluttershy's singing is something like, "Wow, I've never heard you sing alone like that before," which has two aspects to that. "Sing alone," meaning Twilight is specifically excluding times Fluttershy has sung with them as a group, and, "Sing... like that," with Twilight placing emphasis on "that", which could mean anything, but is clearly meant to exclude every other instance of Fluttershy singing. I found it awkward how they tried to have it both ways, having the girls be surprised but still acknowledging that they had heard Fluttershy sing several times before, making me suspect it was hastily added by the script editor or something. But the fact is that they did have an in-episode justification, as weak as it was, so I was really surprised to see that no one noticed this line and instead started talking about how "canon" the songs are and such.

I don't think I actually weighed in on this at the time, but as you say, slipping in the word "alone" makes it kind of a weak cover. I mean, if you know someone sings beautifully with others, is it really a surprise to learn that they sing alone too?

In any case, I'm one of those people who enjoys jumping through logical hoops, so the discussion about whether or not the songs in Equestria actually take place from the POV of the characters was a more interesting subject for me :)

For those who didn't see the game:
Tim Howard the US goalkeeper made 16 saves in yesterday's match against Belgium. The most ever recorded in a single game at a world cup.

Starswirl looks totally different in that poster compared to the way he's depicted in the Reflections comic book arc.

Lot of surprisings inclusions and omissions from that poster just so they could keep the color grouping together.

Random pony from "Swarm of the Century" makes the cut but not Vinyl Scratch? Two Big Lebowski ponies, but no Gilda?

I really like that poster!

Well, my reaction to the character designs in it was the desire to beat them about the face and head with a baseball bat...

Ha, you weren't alone on that one.

Looks like they're going with the version we saw in "Three's a Crowd", which I guess slightly predates the Reflections comics? I wonder if they'll update his TV design to match the comics (if he ever shows up for real)?

I can understand omitting Gilda, but it does seems weird to leave out a fan favorite like Vinyl.

I need to start catching up on the MLP comics sometime. Any recommendations on where to dive in?

Great idea!

So the main series is broken up into arcs, usually of either two or four issues each. We've had twenty issues of the main series so far, with the following arcs:

1,2,3,4 - The Return of Queen Chrysalis
5,6,7,8 - Nightmare Rarity
9,10 - Zen and the Art of Gazebo Repair
11,12 - Neigh Anything
13,14 - Friendship Ahoy
15,16 - Untitled
17,18,19,20 - Reflections

I'm a big fan of Zen and the Art of Gazebo Repair (A Big Mac story), Neigh Anything (How Cadance and Shining Armor got together), Friendship Ahoy (Pirate adventure with the Mane 6) and Reflections (Starswirl, Celestia and alternate worlds). The arcs are all pretty self-contained, so you can start wherever you like. I'm sure others here will give their own recommendations too.

There's also a variety of smaller one-issue comics too. There's currently been two sets of these: The Micro-Series (now complete) and the Friends Forever Series (still running). I haven't been blown away by anything in Friends Forever yet, but the Luna Micro and the Rarity Micro are both generally considered to be excellent (and are two of my favourites of all the comics).

You can really start with any volume. There are three different series, one of which ended. The main series has arcs, while the other two are all standalone mostly slice-of-life stories.

Main series
Volume 1 - Return of Chrysalis arc, really good besides a weak resolution
Volume 2 - Nightmare Rarity arc, a bit repetitive and I didn't think Nightmare Rarity worked that well as a villain, but a lot of people liked this arc, I thought it was fine, and I liked the resolution
Volume 3 - two arcs, one about Big Mac trying to find some nails to buy during a festival, and one about how Cadance and Shining Armor met, which are both fun comedy arcs
Volume 4 - also two arcs, the first being the first one to use Princess Twilight; one about the girls joining a pirate on his quest, which I liked a lot but others don't seem as keen on, and another about a magical bookworm causing stories to come to life, which had some good parts but was surprisingly dull, I though
Volume 5 - yet to be released, but is about the newest arc about Celestia's past and an alternate reality, which started with two really good issues but then proceeded to have a disappointing last two issues, but is still a decent enough arc overall

There is also the Micro-Series, which is collected into two volumes called Pony Tales. Each of the ten issues is standalone. Twilight's issue is thought to have bad art, and Rainbow's issue is thought to have bad dialogue, but otherwise they're all fine.

And then there's Friends Forever, which should only have one volume out now. Like the Micro-Series, the issues are standalone. The first one is considered bad for multiple reasons, but otherwise they are fine.

I mostly agree with what dr forrester said. If I HAD to save money, I would be able to take out a few, but really not worth comenting on.
