The excitement around My Little Pony continues throughout the year! On November 17, 2017, Hasbro is premiering the first episode of its brand new My Little Pony: Equestria Girls series on YouTube.

Fans can expect more than 45 new, fun and exciting episodes from the series starting Nov. 17, with a new episode rolling out each Friday following the premiere.

The magic of Equestria cannot be contained! It’s found its way into the world of the all new My Little Pony Equestria Girls Digital Series and it’s turning everything on its head. From afterschool clubs to beach days, music festivals to theme parks, and a rockin’ Spring Break on a yacht, magic is sure making things interesting. Join Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity as they learn what it means to be superheroes while they take on their biggest challenge yet: high school.

In addition to the new TV series, Hasbro is releasing a brand new line of My Little Pony: Equestria Girls fashion dolls. In partnership with Laura Shuffman, the official My Little Pony: Equestria Girls celebrity stylist, Hasbro revamped the dolls’ looks from the previous collection, adding new, highly fashionable outfits for all of the Mane 7! The look of these new fashion dolls inspired the look of the characters seen in the upcoming My Little Pony: Equestria Girls series. The new Equestria Girls fashion dolls line will be available for purchase in the U.S. in December 2017 and globally beginning in January 2018.

On its own, the premise is fairly simple: it's the My Little Pony characters, except they're alternate universe humans in high school who go on magical girl adventures. Well, there's also one unique major character, Sunset Shimmer, a former villain who comes from the pony dimension. Things get surprisingly convoluted if you include other crossover characters from the pony dimension, and try to figure out the timeline and everything, but this web series should be pretty self contained.

The Equestria Girls spinoff first appeared back in 2013 as a direct to video movie (that got some theatrical screenings). It was aimed at a slightly older audience than the main TV show, tween girls, and proved to be a big hit with them; less so with adult men at first, who found the high school setting unappealing, but it grew on many of them. As a result, it has gotten a movie every year until this one, when it instead got three TV specials. People were expecting a series ever since the very first movie, so this is a big case of "what took so long?" The answer probably lies with Hasbro finding some success with their other YouTube animated series, Hanazuki, and the upcoming reboot of the doll toyline.

This web series is made up of shorts of varying length. It's unclear what exactly that means, but it's safe to assume that some shorts will be less than 5 minutes, like previous Equestria Girls shorts, while others will be in the 11 minute range, like Hanazuki.

Note that discussion for this series is expected to remain in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic OT. This is just intended to announce the series.

I've grown rather fond of the EQG stuff over time. I just wish it would go a bit more towards a magical girl show. Like I think it could pull off something pretty similar to what Star Vs does.

Did you watch the trailer? Looks like there will be more magical girl stuff. Plus, the press release emphasizes their double lives as superheroes (really magical girls).

I'm not the biggest fan of the Equestria Girls line, but I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't going to check out a few of the episodes.

Okay, more than a few.
