Lets talk about how awesome and fun HELLDIVERS looks :)

PlayStation E3 2014 | HELLDIVERS | Live Coverage

Four-Player Carnage on PS4, PS3, PSVITA

With a game of Helldivers going, shouts, curses, and laughter are never far behind. Arrowhead’s top-down shooter is coming to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita this Summer, bolstered by brutally difficult missions and gratifying multiplayer design. This is a game about outfitting an elite squad, dropping into procedurally-generated battlefields, and fighting to survive. The high level of challenge and the “always-on” friendly fire make victory all the sweeter.

HELLDIVERS features "Seamless Cross-Play" and "Cross-Save" between the PS4, PS3, and PSVITA versions, allowing a mixture of up-to four players across all platforms either locally or online. Whether the game is Cross-Buy as well, however, is unclear.

thanks for reminding me about this game. has kind of a WH40K feel to it i think. i like the more tactical/careful way you'll have to play this as opposed to just spray-and-praying.

*extremely* excited about this one.

Everything I've seen about it looks like just the shot in the arm co-op twin stick shooters need.

friendly fire is gonna lead to broken controllers. does this have a release date other than an ambiguous summer release?

Yep, I can already see it :D

Release? Nothing detailed! Only "this summer".

Not sure if they'll hit the summer date. The IGN stream of Helldivers had him state this year instead of this summer, which makes me think it's possible for it to be delayed a little bit. Maybe.

Still one of my most anticipated games for the year.

Missed this on the Sony stream. Wasn't what I was expecting. Or maybe I had it confused with another game. Looks like a cool top down shooter.

I'd almost be inclined to get this on launch if the PS3 version turns out to be alright. Not getting a PS4 any time soon, devs remaining hush-hush about the PC port so PS3 will be my only chance to go into this blind.

Same here, hope they keep it on track. Damn fine lookin' game!

Played this game a few months ago, and it was really fun at the time. Challenging, but rewarding when the group works together. The friendly fire is insane haha.

Griefdivers should be a lot of fun but I'll prefer to play it with randoms as I won't need to worry about ruining friendships that don't exist.

I don't know why they are being so secretive about the PC port. This game seems like something that would excel on that platform rather than what they are trying to push it on now. Just seems weird to me.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
The Magicka devs are awesome. I love that you need to dial in button combos to call in certain things. Bless that team.

It has a real crisp look to it and I look forward to playing it.

I like seeing these smaller indie studios get funding and support by Sony for exclusive games (Journey, Rain, Unfinished Swan, Resogun, Rime, and Everbody's Gone to the Rapture being other examples). You end up with the originality and creativity of indie games with the production values of larger projects.

Some games you get the feels for, even before playing...this is one of them. Hope it makes it before October when there's a lot of stuff coming out. Don't want it to get drowned out by the bigger games.

I'm all for hard games, but the difficulty level in the demo was somewhere in between callous and hateful. They might have to tone it down a bit for new players.

There is no PC version. It's Sony published.

Grim Fandango is either published or funded by Sony if memory serves and that's being ported over to "other platforms" in due time as well. I also haven't read anything where either side flat-out said Helldivers would never release elsewhere, though I could be wrong about that.

If it doesn't then oh well, into the "eventually" pile it goes. I'll be waiting to snag up a PS4 until Bloodborne releases.

Helldivers is a Sony trademark.

It's not getting released on PC.

It doesn't :p. Sony helped with negotiation with Disney. They may have payed a bit for timed-exclusivity but that isn't the same as owning the trademark and publishing the game.

I would like to see some Vita screens, it shouldn't be that different from the other versions, but you never know...
I will play it on Vita anyway lol.

really like the look of this one, looks nice, seems weighty, and seems super hardcore difficulty wise. a nice change of pace to the usual twin stick shooter. kinda like how dead nation was.

Cross play? Cross save? I'm in! Let's hope for cross buy as well!

It's a Sony game, so I'm betting it will. I can't remember the last time they didn't, aside from The Show of course.

Helldivers, Hohokum and CounterSpy looked awesome from what little coverage I saw. Props to Sony for backing all three of these games.

Excited for the game, but there are some design decisions that worry me.

a. Friendly fire sounds great in theory, but without options to blockade what looks like never ending swarms of bugs, this is a problem. Watched the IGN and GB quick looks, and party members don't seem to have the opportunity to create a reprieve situation. If you're going to have friendly fire and force people to communicate, make sure somebody has the ability to create temporary blockades so that people can plan and strategize and/or effectively corral the swarms. Frankly, any type of solid advanced support system whereby players are incentivized to help one another is great. Shields. Buffs. Whatever. Even a class system.

b. swarms of bugs popping up from EVERYWHERE = cruel just to be cruel design. This is silly.

c. The game doesn't need to use every button on the Vita, right? It's a twin stick shooter. Why add street fighter-style button commands to do simple stuff like call in support or bombs, when a simple select-wheel will do? Getting the vibe that the devs just want to make this difficult for the sake of being difficult so that it stands out.

d. When devs make games like this without tons of variation in enemy designs, AI attack patterns, or boss/sub boss encounters, it makes me wonder what they were looking at for inspiration. This game could really use that stuff.

Cautiously optimistic. Not much non-japanese stuff coming down the VITA pipeline, and this is the closest we'll get to a diablo style game. More excited about stuff like this, Galak-Z, and Binding of Issac than AAA releases for the console. Now port some PC gems, MMO's, or Western RPGs (Divinity? FTL? even Guild Wars?) and you have a VERY interesting little portable system.
