The Last of Us PS4 remaster - direct screengrabs *spoilers*

I can't wait to play through the story mode again at 60fps. I'm happy about 1080p and all the other extras, too, of course....but 60fps, hnnnnngh. That's the main reason I'm buying this.

Source and Source 2 run on "the same" ID Tech 3 engine.

So does every iterative COD game.

Differences in engine iterations can be as great or little as needed depending how much money and time is allocated to retooling them.

ND's engine did have a lot of advanced feature sets as is on PS3, but it was heavily coded to match the Cell/RSX strengths. A lot of that would have to be re-written and optimized for X86. That said their coders probably already have a good grasp of parallelization and utilizing multicore processing where a lot of devs still have been dragging their feet. It's part of the reason they squeezed so much out of the PS3.

It looks great, no idea why so many people seem to be upset. Were they expecting it to look like Second Son and Uncharted 4 or something? It's still a PS3 game, and a damn good looking one that runs at 1080p/60fps now. Cannot wait to experience this again.

The stream will only be taken down if Sony demands it, right? Hasn't Sony been really lax about such things in the past?

The biggest thing I want to see is whether or not your partner AI are any less dumb about running in front of you.

I'm sure it'll be great but all the same I can understand the spectrum of expectations here. What is the gold standard reference for gaming remasters? Whats the baseline reference? We've seen direct ports and upscaled versions (wasn't the God of War collection on PS3 this way?), we've seen cross-gen titles with modified features in both versions (Tomb Raider 2013), we've seen Anniversary treatment in the Halo games where the audio and video elements are broadly upgraded across the board with some feature tweaks and additions, and now we have the latest in The Last of Us Remastered.

Of course people are going to have differing expectations - there's been a decent amount of variety in how these things have been approached.

Understandable. Well for those who have actually been following the information we've been getting about the remaster I assume there is some sort of a range of reference. Mostly derivative from the word Remaster.

I think some people were genuinely expecting this, yes.

Really? I noticed the improved IQ, higher detailed textures, and better shadow quality instantly. The textures and IQ especially. Everything looks way more crisp and detailed.

Sure, being a Remastered game better textures, shadows, etc would be expected.

The discussion should be on how much this version is improved compared to the PS3 version.
And only in terms of graphics the improvement doens't justified a new version of the game.
But as many people said seeing the game running in 60FPS would be the right moment to assess the game as a whole.

Apart from the IQ I don't see much of a difference, the assets are still the same with better filtering.

I can't help but think ND was hiding the game on purpose, they knew that average Joe will find little to no difference from seeing the game on YouTube or any online streaming website.

Might get it when its $10, its really overpriced as it is, especially since I played it extensively on the PS3(Platinumed it).

I might actually play the MP on the PS4 version - never got around to it on the PS3 despite adoring the campaign to no end. Youtube beats footage half to death with their encoding, so it's a shame the improvements wouldn't be visible and folks would just judge it based in a Youtube clip.

I envy your eyes if you were able to catch that from a PS4 Stream....

I think it would benefit everyone to actually take time and think about remaster means, and how it's not a remake. Did the PS2 games redone for PS3 had new engine, lighting, textures, models.. ? They were called remasters.

Well, it seems like some people still doesnt know the difference between 'Remaster' and 'Remake'.

Hope they'll do from now on.

HUGE difference[/QUOTE]

The contrast difference makes it an uneven comparison, but 1080p obviously makes for a huge clarity boost.

Obviously can't tell much about the IQ from a stream, but even with the crappy quality I can instantly notice the better textures and character models.
