PlayStation Store Play 2014 - Rogue Legacy, The Swapper, Hohokum & CounterSpy

To everyone screaming "SEVENTEEN DOLLA?!", do you not have PS+?
Also, is there not another game in this lineup you're interested in, which would give a further discount?

People are complaining about sub $15 for Rogue Legacy after the PSN+ discount. And its cross buy? What the fuck.

"Cross buy" shouldn't carry a premium. You're not "getting three games" as some people in this thread believe, you're getting one game which you can load on three devices, and no one will ever need to load it on more than two of them anyway, realistically.

Charging extra for cross-buy just punishes those without a Vita, or without a PS3/PS4. They're effectively being forced to "buy a license" for a console they don't even own just to get the game they want on the console they do own. The price of a game should be what the game is worth, it shouldn't depend on the consoles you can play it on. If they're genuinely going to charge extra for cross-buy, then there should be a non cross-buy version also.

The developer of Rogue Galaxy had already decided that his game was "worth" $15, and now decides it's worth $17 because nothing. You guys, seriously.

So $17 is a ripoff but $15 is okay? Hell its $15 if you buy it while having a PS+ sub. As in the same exact price as the game costs right now on Steam.

It's not a rip-off because of the price, it's a rip-off because of the reasons behind the price. It's a subtle difference.

Well if that's the case then maybe Crossbuy isn't all it's cracked up to be. As a free bonus I'm fine with it, but if the cost of having it on 3 systems (one of which I don't even own) is going to make the cost of the game higher then maybe I'd prefer to just spend $5-10 and get it on the one system I intend to play it on.

That's a fair point. But it's 15 bucks on Steam right now. There's no way it was ever going to be less than that, even for just one version.

If that's truly the case the I'm on board with you as well. We've enough problems parsing potential parity issues with games that are multiplatform and cross-gen, but if cross-gen/cross-buy is also going to inflate the price to boot, let it die. Hopefully this is just "first year console problems" and we see less and less of that as the PS4 spreads its wings a bit more in the coming years.

Do we know the different cuts Sony and Steam take? Is it two dollars more because Sony takes more and because they had to code it for three platforms? If it's to much for you wait for it to go on sale, don't whine. Free market, buy it or don't. It'll probably be literally free in 5 months anyway.

I'll be double dipping at the ps+ price solely for the vita version which IMO is worth way more than $17 anyway.

I guess I'm part of the problem.

I don't have a problem with any of those prices because I don't game on my MAC so to me these are essentially new games. And they're all coming to the system I wanted to play them on anyways - Vita. So I'm fine with the ps+ pricing and on top of that I get $10 later on to buy Road not Taken or Helldivers. It's a win win for me.

Sorry guys that think this is overpriced :(
I'm not helping your cause.

I attribute the price difference of a game on pc and its console/somy system to the sony tax/sony's cut of the game's sales.

Dang, all indies.

My backlog is so packed with AAA stuff, I feel like i can't even justify spending money on indie games.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Damn, I will grab all 4.

I think it's time for me to order a PS4 so that I can play these in the best format.

It's a shame that the Play summer promotion hasn't been offered in EU yet. It's a nice promotion and i remember being interested in most titles the previous years. From this selection, i intend to buy at least 3 games. How hard can it be for Sony to coordinate some of these sales or promotions on a global level instead of regionally or at least offer something similar?

Anyhow, there is a nice selection of PSN games coming up in the next weeks and i look forward to buying and playing most of them.

Rogue Legacy is worth more than the PC release? Yeah I'll pass until a sale comes up (so in a year), out of principle.

I understand that you're getting 3 versions but how does it look to someone who not only beat the game a year ago, but only has one of those systems?

They should have let you be able to buy it for one system at a reduced price as an alternative but I guess that makes too much sense and it's too consumer-friendly.

It isn't priced based on the value of the game at all, it's just a scam.
Actually it seems like it IS based on the value of the game. RL is one of the most anticipated Vita titles this year and they're seeing if they can get away with pushing the price. Wonder how much input the devs had on pricing this one.

or maybe it is for people that don't game on pc? if you already played it then obviously paying a full price for it wouldn't be wise. just wait for it to go on sale and then replay it.... never understand price complaints on any game....if you think it is worth it then buy it if not then wait it out... it is a video game and there are way too many choices nowadays to be compelled into buying any game right at launch.

If you beat the game a year ago why would you buy it again? You expect them to take PC gamers into consideration when deciding price?

Just got done playing some Rogue Legacy. PS4 version performs well. Look beautiful, control are tight, and the game is hard as hell.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
This particular sale is notably focused mostly on indie games.
Did you know, indie games have existed for a long time?

We just didn't call them that until 2-3 years ago apparently.
Reading your comment again, I have no idea what you're saying. This particular sale as in the PLAY Sales? Or this one as just a sale? Are you giving indie games a negative, positive, or none connotation? It took too much work to put this together though, so I'm not deleting it.

What time is it?
I love the Swapper but I'll wait for a sale at this point. Using $19.99 as the starting point seems a little off. I'm in for Hohokum though. Wish Minecraft was part of the sale.

what's with the high prices?

Really crap pricing on these, they've obviously been whacked way up over what they would have sold for to account for the "discount" that people will be getting for buying a few or with PS+.

Rogue Legacy at $17 is a joke.
See the Dev as they set the price, Sony + they talk out the discount % aka agreeing to this thing they've been doing for awhile now

Or it's not about the actual price but rather about what precedent stuff like this can set.
The precedent has already been set. Curve studios likes to raise the price of all their titles by ~25% because of Cross-Buy. More importantly though, we don't have too much to yell about. Pricing is set by developers and each developer feels a different way about how their games are to be treated as products. Devolver Digital thinks that if you bought a game once, you're entitled to the other version of it. Which is why Hotline Miami 1 will be free (Cross-Buy) for people who already on it on Vita or PS3 even if it's through PS+. Cellar Door Games thinks that the PlayStation version of their game is worth more because you get multiple versions of it. And Capcom says "Fuck you".

It's $15 on Steam right now so it should be $15 on PSN. Do you know why late ports are never more expensive when they come out on Steam? Because consumers will call them out.

But I agree it's not thaf big of a diff I'm just a stickler when it comes to consumer value.

But what precedent could be set? Developers are setting the prices. If people don't buy it, then they'll lower the price. Just wait until the price drops to a reasonable level before buying if it's not acceptable. It's not like it's gonna disappear if you don't buy it Day One.

Very informative. Also worth nothing that on PS3 at least, Curve games went on sale like all the time.

Well capcom likes to make love to it's customers can't blame them

I wanted to get Rogue Legacy, but at that laughable discount I think I'll just wait for it to hit PS+. It probably will as soon as September, anyway. I've played it before on PC and the game didn't really have a $15 value for me. As far as Cross-buy being worked into the price, it does nothing for me.

Yeah agreed, I just wish devs weren't opposed to individual system game sales as alternative purchases.
