Favorite RPG Party Member Team

I'm just gonna throw out some teams from my favourite RPG series, since I don't think it's been mentioned yet.

Suikoden - Tir, Gremio, Pahn, Cleo, Flik, Viktor

McDohl household represent! Fliktor are here because they're awesome. I'll often swap out one of them for Crowley when I need some serious magic.

Suikoden 2 - Riou, Nanami, Flik, Viktor, Sierra, Luc

Nanami never leaves my party. NEVER. Again, Fliktor are a no-brainer, I just love Sierra's design, and Luc's probably the best mage in the game.

Suikoden 3 - Hugo, Chris, Geddoe, Sasarai, Viki, Emily

4 True Rune bearers plus a powerful sorceress and a little girl who can decimate the opposition using only her fists? One of the most OP parties ever.

Suikoden 4 - Lazlo, Snowe, Kika, Maxine

True Friendship Attack basically owns everything, Kika's Falcon Rune is great for bosses, and Maxine's magic mops up.

Suikoden 5 - Prince, Lyon, Kyle, Miakis, Galleon, Georg

I just love using all the
non-traitorous
Queen's Knights together. Unfortunately, this party isn't available for most of the game, for one reason or another, so I usually substitute OP characters like Zerase, Cathari and Richard. Those 3 could probably win every battle themselves.

Throw Nash in there somewhere and we have a deal. Don't care about combat, he is just so boss.

Your mention of Chrono Trigger immediately reminds me of Crono, Ayla, and Frog. You've got Slurp Kiss, which is all you need for healing, and the three of them all have their own strong individual attacks as well as some powerful dual techs and a good single hit triple tech too.

Once I'm able to select all three of those characters I don't cycle anyone else in.

Amen. Strongest party IMO, and my favorite characters too.

In FF7, I always use Cloud, Sid, and then the 3rd is random, because cloud and sid have Triple AP weapons.

I have a go to party for Suikoden as well, but it has been longer since I played it. I will have to look at my saves to see.

Final Fantasy IX - Zidane / Vivi / Garnet / Steiner
One of the rare times where the first full party you get is my favorite, this team is the shit. I love every character in FFIX (even Quina...sort of), but this to me has not only my favorite mix of mages and physical classes, but within the story I love this group. Zidane and Steiner's hilarious bickering turned
friendship
, Steiner's devotion to Garnet and respect of Vivi's abilities, Garnet and Zidane's actually really well paced romance...this group just has a great vibe to it.

well, i'm done. FFIX had my favorite cast of any RPG. the core team is just so lovable.

Dusty, just curious why this was your setup...

Sorry for the late reply

Shadow, Cyan, Edgar, and Sabin are just my favorite characters from the game.

I always wait for Shadow.

Cyan's story is touching and just gets me.

I love the story of the two brothers, both royalty, but Edgar taking the heavy burden of becoming the king, while Sabin going off to live a hermit's life and become strong should his brother ever need him. I've played it number of times on different platforms since snes (it's easily in my top three games of all time), but seeing that coin flip for freedom vs responsibility between the brothers in the PS1 version always gets me.

The different playstyles of each group member was great too.

It was always cool when Interceptor would block and counterattack for Shadow. Plus, I just love ninjas and nin-dogs.

Cyan's Sword Tech had that risk vs reward element, where's the longer you waited to charge the attack the more powerful the technique would be, but the party was open for attack during the wait. It made combat more interesting.

Edgar had the versatile Tools tech including the chainsaw with hockey mask attack (which was awesome for me as a big Friday the 13th fan back in the day). Plus, he was a fighting king, who could have easily won (lost?) the coin-flip and had a different life.

And Sabin's moves had Street Fighter-style commands, when SF2 was booming.

Everyone could learn magic, so that wasn't a limitation, even though I've always liked characters having different important party roles in rpg's. The trade off here was I could pick the characters that I find the most fun to use.

There are other cool characters like Celes, Setzer, and Locke, but I'm always drawn to the four above :)

Okay lets see..

FF6: Terra, Celes, Locke, and Sabin or shadow
FF7: Cloud/Vincent/Red 13
FF8: Squall/Zell/Rinoa
FF9: Same as ops, Zidane, Garnet, Vivi, Steiner
FF10: Titus/Auron/Yuna
Chrono Trigger: Crono/Frog/Magus
Chrono Cross: Serge/Glenn/Guile (CT represent!)
Persona 3: MC/Yukari/Aki/Mitsuru
Persona 4: Yu/Yosuke/Yukiko/Naoto
Shadow Hearts: Yuri/Alice/Keith
Shadow Hearts Covenant: Yuri/Karen/Blanca/Kurando
Tales of Symphonia: Lloyd/Raine/Presea/Regal
Tales of the Abyss: Luke/Tear/Guy/Jade
Tales of Graces: Asbel/Richard/Cheria/Pascul
Tales of Vesperia: Yuri/Estelle/Rita/Judith
Tales of Xillia: Jude/Leia/Elize/Millia

So many more I could list to...

Persona 4 Golden: the connections with these guys and gals is unlike any other

Tales of Symphonia: a fun loving group that you really get to know which is a stand out to me still to this day

Mass Effect 2: the most elite group of badasses in the galaxy and aside from the underwhelming dlc characters (not enough content written for them) these guys are a blast to spend time with

Too many RPG's...

Tales of the Abyss - Guy/Tear/Jade/Anise

I usually go with this team becase Guy is the quickest character in the game (And his playstyle is closer to the traditional Tales swordsman, at least compared to Luke), Tear is a way better healer than Natalia, and Jade and Anise can wreck face with their spells. On top of that, all four have great FOF synergy with each other. (Plus, Guy can get a pretty neat semi-infinite combo going involving the Dragon Tempest FOF if you set up your FOF Chambers a certain way) I've never beaten any of the optional bosses (Nebilim, the Tales Cameo team) without this team.

Breath of Fire III - Ryu/Nina/Rei

Between his dragon transformations, Super Combo and Shadowwalk, Ryu can take care of himself. Nina is by far the worst character in the game, but I keep her in my party because 1) It doesn't feel right having of BoF party without Ryu and Nina and 2) I usually stick her with the Influence ability so that I can transform into Rei's Weretiger form and not have to worry about him one-shotting my party. Considering how many enemies in BoFIII have good items to steal, Rei (Or anyone with Steal/Pilfer, really) is good to have on any team for that alone.

Final Fantasy VIII
- Squall/Rinoa/Zell

The damage potential from these three are just crazy, provided you set it up right. You have Lion Heart, Zell's broken ass Limit Break, and then Rinoa has that crazy Meteor/Angel Wing combo.

Tales of Vesperia (PS3) - *Yuri/Flynn/Rita/Estelle

Yuri and Flynn on their own (Especially with fully powered Fell Arms) hit like a damn freight train, and on top of that, they get a dual Mystic Arte that hits like several freight trains at once. Rita's probably the most broken mage in the series (ToD:DC Phillia's really the only competition there) and Estelle is a handy support character.

Sometimes I'll sub Yuri for Judith, if only because Judith is fun as hell to play, provided you overcome her learning curve.

Chrono Cross: Serge, ArchDevil Pip and Orlha. ArchDevil Pip because it was my favorite of Pip's evolutions in the game and Pip is easily my favorite party member And Orlha because I loved her personality and the fact her fighting style was boxing.

Tales of the Abyss: Luke, Natalia, Anise, Jade. Anise was always in my party because she's on a giant teddy bear taking out dudes, what's not to love about that?

Some of my favorites.

Serge and Glenn for X-Strike, Grobyc because he is, in my opinion, the coolest looking character in the game. I am shallow in Chrono Cross.

I played through Dragon Quest VI a while back and these were my favorite characters. Terry is awesome and I love the DQM reference, Hero is obvious, Carver's a bro, and Milly was my (obligatory) Luminary.

I love the hell out of Legend of Mana. I usually keep Elazul in my party and switch in Sierra, once available, whenever I get bored. Third slot = a golem.

Mask of the Betrayer is the only game were I would enjoy talking with the party as much as the most intriguing parts of the game.

Fuck lowly mortals. We epic level now, angels, gods, and nightmares.

Motherfucking Geno!

200px-Geno_SMRPG.gif

This guy and his fucking Geno Beam could destroy ANYTHING.

Another reason why SMRPG is just one of the best Mario games in general for me, there's nothing quite like it.

You pretty much took mine, OP.

For Chrono Trigger, I used Crono, Marle, Frog quite a bit, but I also switched it up sometimes and used Crono, Marle, and Magus.

For Final Fantasy IX, Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner is the BEST. Absolutely the best. Sometimes I would switch out Steiner for Eiko because Holy is quite nice, but I still always went back to the original people.

For Xenogears, I used Fei, Citan, and Elly like 90% of the game (or as much as I could depending on who was available). Billy was useful sometimes, too though.

For Final Fantasy VI, I usually used Terra, Celes, Edgar, and Sabin. But to be fair, I switched around that party pretty often and rarely stayed the same group for long (although I did generally keep Terra and Celes in there).

For Xenoblade, I used Dunban, Shulk, and Melia quite a bit until you get Seven, then I sometimes took Shulk or Dunban out of the party depending on my mood.

For Mass Effect, I used Garrus /Liara/Tali depending on who was available in the game.

ToV: Raven/Repede/Rita/Yuri

Sure, sometimes I'd switch things around a bit, but this tended to be my go-to team. Raven's Love Shot was an amazing heal skill, and Yuri could also keep people topped up. Is it the best team? Probably not. But I love playing as Raven, so having a team that works around that is the best.

There so many games...but I would like to mention one.

Raine Sage.

It was my first Tales game, and I expected to be babysitting A.I. partners....but boy was I ever wrong. Best Healer ever. She knew when to heal at the right times and would even go on the offense with spells too! I dint need to customize the A.I either. She was In my party 24/7.

Squall, Rinoa and Seifer. I know it was hacks but it was my favourite. :(

But if we can't include that then my actual party is Squall, Rinoa and Zell which I also love. Magic and two fighters is lot's of fun to play and they're my favourites.

Persona 4

Kanji, Yukiko, MC and Yosuke.

I really liked all of them and having 4 party members is great.

Koro, MC, Akihiko and Yukari

Love this party, especially Kuro.

Final Fantasy VII

Liara, Tali and Garrus from Mass effect.

Naoto and Kanji from Persona 4.

Recently from Ys: Memories of Celceta, Cailicia makes me laugh quite a few times, but most characters have some charm to them.

For FF6:
Sabin - You're not playing FF6 if he's not in your party
Terra - Unhitable with the right equipment and good magic/weapon damage
Celes - Same as above
Edgar - Accessible for the majority of the game; will have the most magic; Tools become useless late game, and he's pretty replaceable

The other character are either too situational, under-leveled/missing magic due to little availability, or outright bad late-game. Shadow is awesome, but unless you like grinding magic, his weapons/throw is not going to cut it.

Mario, Princess Toadstool and Bowser. In Super Mario RPG.

Forget the fact that it actually came out balanced in the game.

How cool is it on principle that your trio can be THAT trio? The first hero, villain and damsel of gaming.
