The Real Abed

Back II the future... why go forward in time to fix something that hasn't happened?
Seriously. Just tell Marty not to have shitty children. Also, maybe warn him about the drag race and teach him that just because someone calls you chicken, doesn't mean you have to stand up to them. But I guess he had to learn somehow. Still, at least tell him to have better children. You'd think he'd at least teach his son to be more like him and not a complete dork.

no-one hires the dude who tried to rape you as the family car waxer
If Biff is the kind of person who would rape a woman, I doubt he'd turn his life around and become a pussy that fast. If anything, I'd expect the punch to the face to result more in George's death. Biff was a homicidal maniac. He tried to kill Marty with his car. Everyone in town saw this. I doubt he'd suddenly clean up his act and become a servant to the McFly family knowing the kinds of things he almost got away with.

The man can turn back time, give you amnesia with a kiss, rebuild walls with his eyes, and push continents together... I think some sort of glamor ability that interacts with glasses is well within the scope of those reality shifting powers.

Superman 1 - Reversing the Earth's rotation won't actually cause you to go back in time. In fact, it will likely just destroy human civilization and kill everyone.

He does not reverse the Earth's rotation, he's flying faster than the speed of light, thus going back in time.

Hah! trumped by science! :)

It always bugged me how Iron Man never suffers negative effects from change in velocity. Just because his suit can withstand a impact that sends him flying 500 ft away doesn't mean his body would be able to withstand the sudden acceleration or deceleration. He's just human.

Face-Off: This movie has so many plot holes.
* Face transplants occours in such a nice way that patients don't have scars or need any kind of teraphy. It's just like changing clothes.
* A super dangerous criminal is left alone in a room because he's in coma. In reallity that kind of criminals'd have survillance all the time.
* A single man (excuse me: Nicolas Cage) is able to defent/kill all the personal and destroy an entire gov facility that's so secret that nobody knows where it is or what they're doing.

Seriously this movie should have ended at the first 15 minutes.

I've never seen this movie but a friend described the premise to me a while ago. It really makes no fucking sense at all lol.

they sure picked a crappy way to film it, since it sure looks like he spins around the earth and reverses its rotation.

In Amazing Spider-man 2, it was said that OsCorp was funded by another country. It's assumed the guy with the hat is from that investor. The investors don't know about the products they asked OsCorp to design. However, at the end of Amazing Spider-man 1 he clearly knows due to, you know, him being there with the lizard. He talks to Harry and doesn't know the products he was sent to check up on existed. Then he gets information on where these products are.

Who put Harry Osbourne in prison at the end?

Yeah, it's filmed pretty strangely, specially considering he then flies the other way "to set the rotation right" again, but that could be that he just overshot while time-traveling backwards, and had to go forwards a bit :)

But iirc, that's the "in-world" explanation, he flew faster than light, over a certain distance, went back in time.

Independence Day.

A man made computer virus infects alien machines without them even knowing anything about them.

To be fair, the US government had access to the alien's ship for 49 years from the Roswell crash (if ID4 was set in present time, 1996) and were clearly able to access the technology on the ship.

I thought they said the ship didn't do anything until the mothership hit orbit, when all the lights started turning on and such

I don't have to explain it. I disagree that it needed to be shown that batman can get back into gotham. I feel your opinion is wrong. The director and editors agree with me.

That's super, but most people don't. Also you kinda do need to explain it, that's the point of this thread...

Mind blown!

Also, I don't know what everyone's problem is with the BttF films. They've always made perfect sense to me.

True, Brent Spiner's character did say that.

That still doesn't change the fact that they knew some things about the technology

At the end of Char's Counter Attack, Amuro and the other pilots attempting to push the Axis are dooming the entire fucking planet. They're decelerating the Axis, making it easier to get sucked in to Earth's gravity well. They should have been pushing it at an upwards angle alongside its original trajectory to accelerate it out of Earth's gravity well.

The weirdest part to me is that he time travels and then doesn't bother stopping the rocket in the first place.

He just goes and rescues Lois.

Spider-Man- there's no way to not be caught by the cops if your web slinging. Once they get the chopper following you, where are you gonna go? Keep swinging and they can keep following. Gonna change clothes randomly in a roof?
Swing into a open window in a building, change clothes, walk out?

Signs - Advanced alien race goes to planet that is harmful to them, which makes them clearly not that smart.

However, since this (or these) alien(s) weren't acting of their own free will, it makes sense.

The whole entire point of the movie was for Mel Gibson's character to regain his faith in god, therefore, god himself was controlling the actions of the aliens, which is why they all left at the end of the movie with the exception of the one that was killed.

RE: all movies sucking at time travel, it's been a long time since I've seen 12 Monkeys, but it used the "you can't change the past" mechanism, and is paradox-free. Any fiction that goes that route is my favorite kind of time-travel story. LOST does the same thing. It's always fun to see how someone's desperate attempts to change the past are in fact the actions that set the past into its mold in the first place.

Yeah but didn't he lose his faith in God because
his wife was killed so that she could give him a vague message to tell his son so that he could kill the aliens which ends up making him believe in God again, OMG MY BRAIN! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

It's all a test, we know how much god loves to test people.

ill people weren't being eaten? Millions are sick everyday. I guess it was a miraculous day, only few people had a cough.

You somehow missed a major plot point there.
The people had to be terminally ill from a disease. A large portion would be in hospital rooms away from most eyes. Many others wouldn't know they were even sick, and by extension no one else would, either.

Could you clarify these?

The robots in the Matrix wanted to use the humans as kind of batteries, which would be a terrible idea, but I've been informed that they mixed in a lot of "science" with it to make it more plausible.

Jaegers in Pacific Rim would be unstable and slow if built in real life due to their sheer size.

There's an episode of Doctor Who where the Doctor basically tows the planet back to its orbit by using his ship as a tow truck. Normally I'd say that everyone survived due to some sort of BS keeping the Earth from being affected by being yanked through the universe, but they show people and buildings on the surface clearly being affected by an earthquake due to the pulling. The earthquake was global but somehow managed to only cause very, very minor damage to buildings and people. The jolt should have killed them.

'Nother BttF one:

Both Marty's son and daughter look exactly like him. His father and maternal grandfather do not. However, his paternal great-great-grandfather looks exactly like him.

If that wasn't bad enough, his paternal great-great-grandmother looks exactly like his actual mother.

And don't give me that, "but the McFly men just have a certain type of woman" BS.

Transporter 3

Frank is in a car that is sinking in a river. In order to refloat the car, he pulls out a balloon from the trunk and fills it with air from the car tires.

He fills it with air that is already inside the car, which would have no effect. He moves the air from A to B

Edit: Apparently this is actually possible because the air in the tires is compressed, and when expanded into the balloon, takes up more space and lets the car float. How about that.

The Dark Knight Rises-if Joseph Gordon Levitt had actually counted like Batman told him to and then thrown that grenade, it would have exploded in his hand.

And the military told him that if he took one step forward, he would be shot, and if he took two steps forward, then they would blow the bridge. How would he take another step forward if you gun him down on the first step?

Also, how have these three gone unmentioned?

Titanic-Two people could have been on that door and it still would have floated.

The Avengers - In general, the Iron Man armor vs. The Chitari (spelling?) always bothers me. I'm a huge Iron Man fan, so I'm all about how cool the armor is. The thing is, shouldn't it be kind of shitty when facing a supposedly super advanced alien race?

Tony is clearly an impressive genius, but he's still limited somewhat by standard earth technology. Wouldn't Chitari weaponry just chew through Iron Man's armor with ease? Is Tony's suit really better than what the rest of the galaxy has to offer?

Nick Fury makes a big deal about we're "hilariously outgunned." Shouldn't Tony say, "Well, my suit is basically better than your Phase 2 weapons, actually."

Okay. This is probably the only slight issue I have with the films. His parents would definitely recognize his face to look exactly like Calvin's. George would not be a happy dude.
