I just realized how irrationally superstitious I've become with PotD updates
I'm mentally chastising myself for being excited, thinking, "Don't get TOO excited, Neiteio! That will cause Sakurai to post a filler update!"
As though my level of excitement has any bearing on what some guy waking up from his birthday hangover on the other side of the planet ends up posting!

Some Canadian dude will accidentally say Ridley when listing off the playable characters, and even once a statement is issued that states that he's just a trophy, people will use it as evidence as Ridley's inclusion.
"There's no way he'd tease us like that if he was just a trophy, the Canadian rep was in on the teasing"
Also, I'm so fricken excited for tonight. We're definitely getting Wario, or maybe a SS newcomer.

That bottom paragraph makes me really miss the marvel of seeing characters like Pikachu and Link fighting each other for the first time. It was pretty amazing when the game first released. The addition of Mega Man and Pac Man kind of revive that incredulous feeling, but nothing will match seeing it for the first time.
why does everyone assume its gonna be a character reveal everything night? what time will it happen though? im est.

And on the east coast, it updates anywhere from 2-3 in the morning.

Has anyone chosen their main yet? I usually choose who I love and then worry about their style of fighting later.
In the event that there is no playable Ridley or Dixie I plan to get extremely good with;
1: Donkey Kong
2: Bowser
3: Charizard
4: Little Mac
These 4 have little to do with zany projectiles almost fight entirely with just their limbs! Just the way I likes it! This will also be my choice of characters if Dixie in included but uses bananas, a feather gun and some sort of BS rocket barrel.
I'd love to get good with Sonic as well but playing against really really good Sonic's showed me I'm just not very capable with that kind of speed.

During the Brawl dojo I lived on the east coast and now for the Smash 4 updates I live on the west coast and I must say, getting updates at 11-12 is soooo much better than 2-3. During the Brawl dojo I was in high school and I recall regularly falling asleep in my 4th period class everyday. This problem was only exacerbated by being in the front row and having a teacher that would always wake you up.

To me, it's silly to declare a main in a game like Smash. It's more a list of characters I don't care to play as, since that's smaller than the ones I do like to play.

Chorus Men/Marshal (2), Banjo-Kazooie (5), Krystal (4), and... eh, I guess Kamek (1)? Gotta spend that last point somehow, and she could be fun I guess.
Maybe replace Kamek with Diskun for a weird/WTF retro character.
More or less, yep! I tend to main/force myself to learn characters based on how much I already like them as characters rather than choose them based on their play style.
1 (tie). Mega Man (because he's my ultimate dream Smash character and I'm already learning him quite efficiently, winning most of my E3/Comic-Con matches with him)
1 (tie). Kirby (my Brawl main, and he's even better now)
3. Chorus Men (assuming they're in; I LOVE the Rhythm Heaven series and think they could have an amazingly cool move set)
4. Palutena (I just think the character and her design are awesome and I love the idea of maiming a freakin' goddess, especially based on the moves we've seen so far of hers)
I REALLY wanted to try and main Rosalina too, but based on my time playing her so far, I'm just not the biggest fan of how she plays.

I can't, even if I wanted to. Granted, you had the chance to play the demo, so you have an advantage here, but I think it's hard to say what character(s) anyone would want to main just judging from screenshots and video footage.
There's characters that I like for who they are, characters I am interested in in terms of gameplay, but it doesn't necessarily make them "main material" for me.
For instance, I was really looking forward to playing Pit in Brawl from screens/trailers, but I just couldn't get into him when the game came out. I also was a Peach player in Melee, but Brawl Peach feels so different to me that I didn't like playing her either. On the other hand, I enjoyed playing Brawl Pikachu a lot, as well as Snake, characters I didn't expect enjoying as much.
There's of course Samus, who is the character I've been gravitating towards since Smash 64, and G&W whom I liked in both games too, and Wario whom I knew was gonna be awesome to play for me just looking at footage, but that's a very rare case.
I will play every character in the game, and I will see whom I like, then.

I'll never not main Wario. Smash and Street Fighter are the only fighting game where I always stick with my main if available lol. (In the latter's case, M.Bison.)
Doesn't mean I don't use other characters though. I make it a rule to use boxers like Dudley, Akihiko and Steve. I'll definitely use Mac in Smash.

If I main'd characters purely on their looks, I'd main Lucina so hard. Strong female with loads of style!
However, Lucina is based on Marth, who is one of the few characters I never really found fun...
I guess I'll get her Amiibo, and try maining... Robin, or Greninja, where the newcomers are concerned

Same. I tend to pick characters for aesthetic reasons, and then I learn to love the way they play. I think my main(s) will be:
1. Luigi - he's been my main in every Mario game since I was a little kid.
2. Villager - I love AC, and with his Pocket, Timber, and every other weird move, he looks like a lot of fun to play as.
3. Ness - I pretty much ignored him until just recently when I picked him up in Brawl.
4. Robin - As with Villager, I love Awakening, and he looks really unique and interesting.
Actually, Smash is one of the only games where I do use more than one character consistently. In games like Street Fighter and Soul Calibur, I'm barely competent as it is with my mains (Zangief and Astaroth) - how am I supposed to handle other characters?

Out of all the newcomers, the only one I really have zero interest in is Lucina (like the character, but I don't like using Marth, and she's worse Marth... and Marth is already nerfed). Maybe Mega Man and Rosalina too, as well as Mii Fighters (what's the point?). As far as veterans go, they all look good, but I'm really excited for DK, Bowser, and Pikachu after hearing how good they are. Oh! And Pit after playing Uprising.
Of course, if Smash 4/5 is anything like Brawl and Project M, I'll suck with my favorite characters and end up really clicking with Mega Man's gameplay style or something.
This was only revealed characters by the way. I'd be stoked for ROB or Chorus Men.

With us approaching the Japanese release date for the 3DS version, I thought it be fun to see how SmashGAF's character opinions add up when gathered together. Basically, the idea is you choose your favorite character from past Smash Bros. games and your most wanted character yet to be added to Smash (this includes newcomers who have already been announced, as we don't know every newcomer yet and may not until launch). Then, once we have only 20 POTD's left (two weeks from tomorrow), I'll countdown the top 20 choices every weeknight until launch. I also have a section in the questionnaire that lets you write a quote as to why you love these characters so much that I'll include in the countdown (though you can just vote if you want).
I wasn't sure what to do with transformation characters / clones that are same character, so I've kept Sheik/Zelda and Samus/Zero Suit Samus as one choice, while also keeping Mario/Dr. Mario and Link/Toon Link/Young Link as one slot on the poll. If you vote for one of them and really only favor one variant of the character, put it in your quote on why you like the character! Please understand.
So, hopefully we can get enough people to vote to make this worthwhile. If not, no worries, but I love a good countdown and would love to see who SmashGAF's favorite character really is. If you want to participate, QUOTE THIS POST TO GET A LINK TO THE QUESTIONNAIRE.

Nope, not yet. I'm excited to try a lot of characters but I can't say I have a main yet.
Hopefully it will be one of the following: Mac, Palutena, Greninja, Lucina, Robin, Luma & Rosa, and Peach. Mega Man too i guess.
