I can not get over how addictive Sky Force is. When I finished the Hard missions for Stage 1...and then realized there were Insane missions...

I usually absolutely abhor timers, but this is the first game where I found them tolerable. It helps that you're not locked out of gameplay while waiting.

The core gameplay is so solid and fun that I don't mind grinding at all.

80 Days and PAD.

Always always always PAD....

Yeah, pretty great shmup and the control system works well in regards to power weapon management. I just wish they didn't lock the tournament mode behind a Facebook login; why not allow for GameCenter?

ending. Mind blown.
Also got the round 2 final mutation, so I'm done. Fun times like with the alpaca games. The level 8 form was disgusting though, lol.

How much did they pay you?

Cross posting my replies and Takao's post from the Chaos Rings 3 thread since a lot of the interested don't really venture in mobile threads outside of this one for the usual reasons:

Cool, looking forward to it. I beat Chaos Rings 1 and Omega with all the available characters, both games range from mediocre to decent but they were fun enough and scratched the mobile RPG itch nicely. Still need to play CR2 though, I'll get to it before this new one is released in English.

I like it, but I don't mind that they changed the art design for this entry to begin with. It will probably catch more eyes too.

Some of the screens have a KH vibe and others kind of remind me of Arc Rise Fantasia (looks-wise. I've never played the latter). Battle screens are looking dynamic, curious to know what upgrades they made to the genes/sopia and break systems.

Think I'll be starting CR2 soon now that I'm done with FF4. I played Omega too closely to the first one and it got old after I beat both, but now I'm down for it again and 2 is reportedly better. I should probably play the second episode of Republique before I install another big game though, it's already on my phone.

Square Enix didn't pay me. :p

Cartoon Network have been putting out consistent titles lately, like the awesome but short The Great Prank War, the skill tree getting deeper as you keep playing brawler Best Park in the Universe -downside: all enemies do the same-, the easy but charming and unique puzzler Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake or the Mutant Fridge Mayhem, my favorite brawler on iOS, so after this curriculum, I had to pick Time Tangle: Adventure Time.

I am a huge endless runner fan, basically my 10 top games are mostly endless games: sideways, going up, down, match-3, arena fighters, and so on. So I was excited about Time Tangle, an endless behind the back runner featuring the Finn the Human from the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time, without any IAP. Even more after watching an interview with the developers saying that they drew a lot of inspiration from the awesome iOS unique -until Time Tangle arrived- runner Indiana Stone: The Brave and The Bold. One of my favorite iOS games. So my expectations were pretty high. At 12:01 I picked it up and started playing...

The first thing that caught my eye was the quality of the animations and the voice acting, its like the show. Then I looked around and found plenty of achievements, leaderboards and a lot of different things you meet in game to unlock. Its full of content. Characters, enemies, bosses, obstacles, power.ups, and many many more... awesome, I like how this is going so far. Next I tapped Play. After a short and nice tutorial I was ready for it. I knew how to punch, how to charge, how to jump and the controls for free roaming left and right were great. The game started. The speed of the game feels right and there is always something to keep you busy, you can punch enemies and the bigger one require combos, some timed multiple hits, its feel so right and its so much fun. Each time the game starts it randomly chooses between 4 types of missions and you have to, for example, collect fruit, chase bats or -what completely sky rocketed my interest in this game through the roof and to the moon- the way the game throws in special events and powerups. And those events are amazing, like the battle with the skeleton (or another one with a sword), where your character actually stops and fights the boss like the first or second God of War -maybe a little bit simpler, well, a lot simpler- where you evade his attacks and hit him back, and even has a finishing move. Solid. Fun. Awesome.

I kept going and the game just kept on giving, there is actually a full story mode that plays like a Campaign, with many different environments your you to run in, many different events, and a ton of things to discover and unlock. All with a coat of polish never seen before on this genre. Honestly, I can say that we are in front on the best endless runner ever existed. Its the game I always wanted. A game Thank you Cartoon Network for this. Fans of the genre get it now, the one who are tired of the genre also need to pick this up, and really, anybody who is interested should play it.

Also, another very worthy thing to mention is that the game is designed for the player to have fun, no micro transactions of any sort. Designed like the old golden days of gaming. Thanks for that <3

Pitta you're mentioned in a PocketTactics post! <3

Talking to PT reader Pitta on Twitter today: “To be honest,” he said,”I wouldn’t have looked twice at the game if it wasn’t by Coding Monkeys.” And that probably goes for me, too — but Rules is the first non-board game from the German developers of Carcassonne and Lost Cities a studio whose track record is so exemplary that Rules would merit a purchase sight unseen even if it didn’t sound so intriguing.

Sky Force really is the best thing ever.

I've now maxed every upgrade with 4 cards remaining and I'm still playing for 15-20 min every night. Still some missions to finish. And stage 5 annoys me so much I've pretty much cleared the rest of the game ignoring it - so I guess I should work on that.

If you want to REALLY feel old...buy Rules! by Coding Monkey's (Carcassonne and Lost Cities).

Usual sleekness and polish for a very different game compared to their previous masterpieces.

I do not even know how to describe the game...reminds me the old 'Simon'.
You have to follow a certain rule (like 'tap all green icons' or 'tap icons in descending order' and so on) within a certain time constraint...the more you play, the more rules are added (they are numbered) and the game just tell you 'Tap all greens'...then...follow rule 2 (which you must remember, they are always the same each time at least).

It's a lot of fun so far....but I can't see myself getting past level 5-6 (out of 100).

Clearly all people above me in the leaderboards are cheating somehow :)

I love match-3 and frantic games, and if they have colorful graphics, no IAP and are endless much better. SPLODE’N’DIE Looks terrific, looking forward to it :D

Thanks Matt! We do have a simple IAP integration which will allow you to unlock the toughest levels if you're struggling. Also the game is level based with nearly 50 different situations and an increasing difficulty so I bet you will find what you're looking for!

Bought and about to play! Thank you.

Also, have you tried Epic Skater which came out two weeks ago or so? So good. Reminds me of skate or die in a way

Ive seen it but the free thing makes me really wary to pick it up. Have you hit a paywall? Does it have timers or double currency?

Awesome... please release it already :p

Since Time Tangle has taken the endless runner throne yesterday and today it reinforced that feeling, I have to mention the game that had the throne from 2012 until now: Worm Run from @GoldenRubyGames, an amazing indie studio from New York. It arrived in early 2012 and to this day still holds the crown -in the 2D realm now- to this day.

In Worm Run, you control a space miner that were about doing his business with his jetpack, collecting grubies (the currency) until a giant and freakishly cute giant space worm sets his eyes on you to feast on your meat. And you have to run from it. By do that you have to swipe in the direction you want to go to, there are 8 directions you can go to, and the jetpack trapped on your back does the job quite nicely. The controls are tricky at the beginning but after a few tries they click and without them, the game wouldn't be the same. The developers wanted you to feel how of a giant space worm with very sharp teeth chasing you from behind feels like, terrifying, and with a simple tap to jump this wouldn't have been achieved, instead they came with the perfect combination: frantic swipes to guide your character through the path, which is filled with lava pits -for example- and many nooks and hidden corners that makes the environment, in combination with the controls, work so well, and mostly your character sticks to the wall you you are frantically swiping in the direction you want to go, plus the worm always behind you, shaking the ground as it get closer. This is the soul of the game and it does it so, so extremely well and good. Then the game keep getting harder and harder for each of the 4 different "levels" the game offer, with another interesting twist: as you keep playing further, the game unlock different types of obstacles, so the more you play the more difficult and deep it becomes. Lucky for us, the game feature a wide arrange of plenty of useful powerups. You can choose how many you want to use and each have two upgrades -I only use the bomb and the skunk juice, both fully upgraded- so these adapt to your play style. There is ice, which makes walls non-sticky, a rocket, a magnet, ... These are made with a lot of style and love. The whole game is a letter of love to gaming. It also features missions, giant grubies and plenty of things to upgrade all with ease. The are many many more quality touches everywhere on this game, but I dont want to spoil it all. I will leave something for you to discover on your own.

The is IAP and a gruby doubler (I got that, 2$ for a game this good is a no brainer), but just look at it and you will see that is just there for the impatient. Truly, the only game I can say that. The most expensive IAP costs 4$ and gives you everything in the game three times over... maybe four times over. The game has revives but they follow certain rules, like only activating when you are beyond your high-score and only twice then. Fair.

I can't recommend that game enough, its my favorite game on iOS along with Out There and Time Tangle.

I would, actually! Mostly curious about actual options re : hardware and such. I've been kind of ignoring the whole MFi movement but ever since I picked up Monster Hunter, it's been wiggling into my brain... You'd be a hero.

Also, it has its own thread, but Dragon Quest IV plays fantastic on my 4S and is a pretty great port! Anyone who wants a great JRPG should pick it up, though I'm biased because it's my fave RPG of all time.

The on-screen circle control pad is a little fiddly at first, but there are 3 sizes to pick and you can place in lower left, lower right, or lower-middle of screen. Battles are direct touch on menu buttons. Most important to me, it seems to have a good auto-save function for if you swap away from the app and it closes/resets. (On my 4S I pretty much expect everything to reset if I have to take a call or open a web page, so this was crucial for me.) it seems to auto-save after each battle as well as when you leave/enter a town or dungeon floor.

No paywall. Click "skate" and go. You use simple swipes to ollie, manual and all sorts of tricks. Goal is to keep a combo going for as long as you can. You bail, hit restart and try again. So simple yet very fun. Every run nets you coins to build your trick stats and thats all there is to it.

I like games that have to keep up the combo (like Jupiter Jump) but a little bit deeper than that so I think Epic Skater might do the trick. Thanks!

Edit: My 80 Days trip that started so good ended really bad... on my way to San Francisco (already on low funds) the pilot decided to go to Honolulu instead, where Malaria stricked and spent a month in the hotel waiting for my master to be cured. When he did recover, was already day 80, and yet had to travel north america and cross the pacific... I arrived on my 110th day... time to go again, I will try the south route this time like the Willy Fox cartoon I watched as a kid.

ok, will get something up this week.
I'd definitely be interested in a controller thread too. The initial models and prices weren't too hot but I've been getting more curious about the offerings lately and more and more games have been adding support.

Seems Capcom just released Ace Attorney 5 on iOS (Japan Only)

Awwww yeah! Rad. Didn't even know this was gonna be ported.

My first time with 80 Days took 93 days. I probably could have just barely made it if my ship to San Francisco didn't get sent off course to Honolulu (and even then maybe if I hadn't failed the resulting mutiny); at the end I was also ~$1300 short of taking a quicker route up towards London and that definitely cost me like a week, and I accidentally slept somewhere twice which cost me that day. I'm definitely going to try again, though I'm still trying to figure out how far in advance it's worth getting items, etc.

Holy shit - I bought Dargon Quest 4 last night on my Ipad Mini Retina and just fired it up on my lunch break. It is horrifically pixellated blown up to fill the screen like this. I know the DS version was pixellated but this is just...too much for me. Is there a way to shrink the whole thing or something to get it looking better? If not I might load it up on my Iphone 5 and try that.

Godus crashes while signing in on the iPad 2, shame because the first half hour is pretty interesting. Made in Guildford too, that's just down the road from me.
