MKV support is huge.

Live TV streaming is also really cool. Hopefully they'll add support for streaming games too.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Thread title needs to mention MKV. Honestly sort of a megaton there.

Good move MS. Get this fucking "consoles in 2014 that play shit all media" war into overdrive.

Calm Killer

In all media, only true fans who consume every book, film, game, or pog collection deserve to know what's going on.
Yes! Finally! and they are doing it correctly this time with supporting other formats!

Good job Microsoft, hopefully Sony triggers .mkv as well! Besides that, I still want Miracast built in on my Xbox One!

Sony's Japan-based firmware team continues to get demolished by Microsoft. It's honestly nearly beyond embarrassing at this point.

this is good news, but importantly I want to be able to push DLNA content directly to Xbox one via a controller - eg using my tablet to browse and then play on my TV. I can actually already do this direct to my Sony TV, but I think it is important considering the 'input one' nature of Xbox 1 so you can play things without having to specifically launch a separate app

I bet they have a counter announcement soon just like 3D Blu Ray if even just vague bullshit like "Soon" and "this holiday".

No way in hell Sony does MKV though. lol. Smart move on MS's part with that one.

Sony's 2013 and 2014 TV models and media/blu-ray players do MKV.

This is good news for Plex too. You won't have to transcode anything most likely. The formats listed above will run natively on the console.
