lolz at that explanation from CD. I didn't like TR much, but I sure hope Squeenix's got their money's worth, cuz CD will be suffering massive community backlash.

Yeah, thinking about it, what a bad move. They literally put Tomb Raider DE on PS4 earlier this year. I guess the deal wasnt even in the works yet, but this is just a bad move. They literally sold their fans for the money.

MS muat have paid a lot of money, thats all I can think. I'll still play/get on X1 I guess, but I'm still sad as I think it'd be much better on PS4/PC.

Huge fuck you from Crystal Dynamics to half their fan base. Stay classy guys.

What do you mean half? More like 2/3rd.

This won't make me buy an Xbox One Microsoft, so you just wasted your money.
And Square? Way to kill a fucking IP by removing it from the system that it outselling the other system 2:1.

Square must have gotten so much money for this.

I know these guys word carefully, but taking "exclusively, in 2015" as a nod to it being timed is very farfetched. He was simply saying its released in 2015?!

Besides, they've already said since that it's exclusive. Big catch.

lol

Why give PC/PlayStation fans the Tomb Reboot Remaster a few months ago if they won't even get the sequel? I mean, good on MS for locking up a potentially big title, but this seems like a weird deal from Squeenix's side.

Yo, real talk.

FUCK you, Square and Microsoft.

Yeah, I'm salty. This is the kind of anti-consumer bullshit these assholes love to get up to.

Better be timed.

Why do they have to steal our games?

Probably timed, PS4/PC will get the Definitive Edition rerelease.

Sucks I won't be able to play it at launch, but I can wait.

EDIT: Nothing like a megaton though, lol at the posts in this thread.

Would have bought the game for sure.

This won't sway me to get an xbox yet, but maybe sooner than I thought.

Unless it's timed. Dunno what's going on yet with it though.

Almost as big of a fuck up as Capcom going GameCube only with Resident Evil. What the hell are they thinking? Are there only idiots working at those companies?

Money, it's there. This is why I'll never say Sony has this Gen in the bag, Microsoft is way too aggressive with this shit.

This is a fucking game that was announced as multi-platform wasn't it?

Insane.

Again, this is what worries me about the direction of this industry. Microsoft are in it to win, and willing to throw billions at whoever in the short term.

Once they win, and they will win, and Sony leaves this business... All I can say is that a lot of people who want MS "competing" to "keep Sony on their toes" are going to miss the PS2 Sony dominance days.

Because once Microsoft acquires the monopoly, nobody will be able to stand up to them. Nobody. The barrier of entry will be too high.

If it's not timed, oh well - not gonna (get to) play it if that is truly the case.

MS has to go for something I guess, now we will just have to wait and see if TR is the right choice.

It's an impressive get, to say the least.

But it's sad that after a successful franchise reboot for TR after what was seen as a gruelling start, SE is neutering the franchise potential by going exclusive.

lolz at that explanation from CD. I didn't like TR much, but I sure hope Squeenix's got their money's worth, cuz CD will be suffering massive community backlash.

Yeah when you have to write an apology letter the moment of an announcement, you know you are screwed lol.

Feel bad for crystal dynamics. All that hard work and they have the success of their game severely restricted. Square Enix really are dicks.

It's NOT timed. It's FULL exclusive acc to this tweet.

Honestly, unless MS bought the TR IP, they can announce whatever they want, I won't believe it. We saw it too many times last gen.
Tomb Raider Sigma here we go.

I can kinda see the MS logic though, "shit we need something to compete with Uncharted! Let's create.... no wait... buy that female Uncharted game!"
But I don't know why SE would accept, unless it really is a fuckton of money.

This makes me not want to buy an Xbox one even more
This is laughable. These companies are competing with each other. It's not like Sony and Nintendo don't go out and get third-party exclusives as well. It's like people don't want MS to compete and just want them to do nothing and go away quietly. On the Squenix side, the ability to get funding and what is sure to be a massive co-marketing campaign will give this huge exposure throughout 2015.

this is a really weird decision for both Microsoft and SE. SE is abandoning fans and sales on PS4/PC and MS is buying exclusivity for a game that is a questionable system seller at best.

If it was timed wouldn't it be in both MS and Square not to tell people that? Otherwise people would hold off on buying it thus defeating the purpose of the agreement.

Xbox UK PR guy is saying it's exclusive. Period.

I still find that very hard to believe, but we'll see.

MS PR has been wrong before. Wasn't MGS V announced as an exclusive to Xbone by Major Nelson during the 2013 E3? Who knows though? It is a mess.

I just can't wrap my head around the logic behind this. They are effectively cutting out 3 million units of sales. Or roughly $150 million in sales by doing this. Insane.

This is hilarious because if this was a PS4 exclusive (timed or not), the responses here would be way different.
Loving all the hate squenix is getting from the Soony troops...

If this were a PS4 exclusive the reaction would be ALOT different. Good for you Microsoft.
Of course. People just Microsoft and Xbox.

Or you know, could it be that people hate moneyhatting a franchise that was before a multiplat (and sold better on another system)? If the game was on the brink of cancellation and Microsoft saved it then there would be nothing wrong with that (like Bayo 2 on Wii U), or if they were funding a new IP (like Scalebound). But this is a very obvious moneyhat and just bad for the industry.

It's disappointing to see NeoGAF revert to a level of discourse more suited to GameFAQs when faced with unpopular or unexpected news.

On-topic, The Tomb Raider reboot was a fantastic surprise when I played through it last year. I'm looking forward to what the developers can improve on and bring to the table for the sequel. I don't have an Xbox right now, but if the game turns out as well (or better!) as its predecessor, I'll definitely grab it if I find myself with an Xbox One in the future, or whenever a different version of the games makes its way to a platform I do own. :)
Yes, obviously people should be happy for moneyhats instead of hating it as a practice.

And to think 3.6 million copies sold on three platforms didn't meet expectations last year. The next one won't most likely reach even those figures.

That was mulitplat though on last gen hardware. It might be popular, but the install base at that point was huge on consoles. I'd like to see the numbers they pulled on the HD version of the latest TR. That might give you a better idea of how well it would sell.

First Tomb Raider sold like 6.5 million among five platforms. There is no way it's even going to get remotely close to that on the xbox one. Microsoft could've potentially paid 100 million, to make it worth their while. I think it's nonsense.

I was just searching for these numbers which are just amazing. The amount of money involved to make this worth it for square has to be astronomical.

This isn't about profitability, this is about desperation.

Exactly.

Between this, Sunset and Quantum it's enough to get me an Xbox, but not this year and I was probably going to get one at the end of 2015 anyway.

Does anyone wonder if Microsoft is going to start cutting huge checks to keep certain games off competing platforms for 6 months? The thought crossed my mind.

No PC. Dafuq.

Give a year. It'll come, just like Dead Rising 3 and Ryse did.

Sorry, but the word exclusive without anything attached to it (like timed exclusive or exclusive for 2015 only) suggests exactly that it's exclusive forever.

Uh-huh...

Riiiiiight

See you in a year when you go "BUT GUYS I DIDN'T TOTALLY MEAN IT WAS EXCLUSIVE TO JUST THE X-BOX! I JUST MEANT ONLY ON X-BOX FOR CONSOLES!" when it releases on PC.
